You're paying a small price compared with what she's going through.

Anthony had been in a panic . . . and perhaps he still was. But Kate was resting right now. Her maid was bathing her as best as she could given her circumstances, and so Anthony was impatiently waiting in the drawing room with Edwina, longing for the moment he could return to his wife's side. She had been treated for her leg but would be bed ridden for some time.

The sight of the crashed carriage, and seeing her trapped within it was not one that would soon leave his memory. He felt only relief that Kate was still alive. That her leg would heal but . . . that did not make him wish he could spare her of any pain. They bad been brought tea and were discussing the accident, the events that had led them to this point. "You're paying a small price compared with what she's going through." Realizing how that sounded, he paused, irritated with himself but really . . . mostly angered at the man who was driving the carriage.

A man who just so happened to be someone that Edwina apparently fancied. So Anthony wondered if he could truly express his anger toward him. "Apologies," he told her sincerely. "I am truly glad that you were not injured as your sister was." Kate has received the worst of the injuries out of the three of them. He was grateful that the others had not . . . as undeserving as Kate was of what she was going through as well.

Edwina felt awful, today had gone all wrong.  What started off as a simple carriage ride with her sister and a gentleman she liked was ending with her sister injured.  She knew that Anthony was upset seeing Kate injured, that only made Edwina feel worse. Anthony I'm sorry.  Seeing Kate hurt hurts me too.

Anthony gave a short nod to Edwina, knowing it was not her fault but rather, the Gentleman's who did not know how to drive apparently. But once the panic and worry truly subsided, Anthony would concede that it was indeed an accident. And that accidents happened. All he could offer was a simple response. "I can imagine." For he knew Kate and Edwina were close, and having seven siblings . . . he knew he would be hurting in seeing them hurt. "It is not your fault," he added in further reassurance.

Edwina still felt awful, this whole mess was because she had wanted to go riding with a suitor and Kate insisted on coming.  Now Kate was hurt,  Anthony was upset and Edwina could not even remember the name of the man.  Her head hung as she tried to think of something else to say.  I will make sure that Kate gets the best of care and I know she will want you to visit her.  She will be alright Anthony and its alright for you to admit how much you care about her.

Anthony listened as Edwina assured him that Kate would receive the best care, that he would want her to visit him and that it was alright to admit how much he cared about her. "She is my wife," he stated. "I care about her emphatically." That, was not the difficult part to admit. What had been difficult, was admitting that he was in love with her. The realization and willingness to accept it being what prompted him to rush towards her, needing to tell her the news right away.

He had imagined it to be this wonderfully, romantic moment and instead . . . could have sworn his heart stopped beating for a moment when he saw the danger she had been placed in. "I have no intention of leaving her side," he added. The reason he was doing so now was because her maid was assisting her with cleaning and, she was better trained to help Kate in this way considering her injury than Anthony could be. "You are welcome to remain the night if you desire," he offered, should Edwina want to stay in their home so that she could be close to her sister for additional support during this time.

Edwina did not know Anthony as well as Kate did obviously but she did know the look of love when she saw it.  His love for Kate was written all over his face and it was touching.  Edwina remembered the Anthony that she had met at the beginning of the season who just wanted a wife with the best title and he had so many requirements for his wife that it just seemed utterly pathetic.  Yes the man was a Viscount but he seemed not to care about who he married as long as she met his list of requirements.

Since he had married her sister Edwina had noticed a change in Anthony.  He didn't seem to care as much about the list of his requirements and now he was so distraught over Kate's injury that she knew he loved her.  He loved Kate so much that he had to be close to her now to watch over her.  I know Kate will be pleased to have you at her side when she wakes up.

Reaching over for his hand she squeezed it.  She will be fine, Kate is the strongest lady I know and with you at her side she will recover fastest.  Thank you, I would like to stay here so I am here if Kate asks for me.
