Danbury’s parties are known for its glamour and meet-cutes. It was where Daphne was introduced to her husband, though it was more like a bump. 

Penelope would rather stay by the lemonade fountain for a drink. She heard many stories of what is actually inside the drink. After all, Daphne was at the stand with Nigel Berbrooke before bumping into her future husband. 

She pour a glass for herself when Anthony Bridgerton appeared. With a chuckle, she took a sip of her lemonade.

If there was one thing that could be said of Lady Danbury, it was that she certainly knew how to host an event. She often was the one who opened the season and the ton knew that it would indeed be a perfect wa to kick things off. Of course, it was not uncommon for her to host more than one event during the season. Despite his minimal events to avoid her -- all in good fun of course -- or to be on guard at her approaching, he could not deny the friendship that she and his family held. They had all but conspired to help bring Daphne and Simon together after all.

As Anthony's eyes scanned the crowd, he noticed Penelope standing by the lemonade bowl. Penelope did indeed have a special place in his heart. He did not like to see others mistreat her nor did he like to see her standing on her own. The same protective instinct that often consumed him when it came to taking care of one of his sisters. He approached the youngest Featherington daughter with a smile as she questioned the lemonade. Anthony smiled with amusement, pouring another cup for himself.

Perhaps there was indeed something more in the beverage but it would be one of those things that no one spoke of. "Perhaps it is a medicine that will make evenings such as this more enjoyable," he joked. Yes, Anthony was indeed in a rather good and relaxed mood. "Is it working for you?" He asked a jokingly, continuing the light and comical topic of discussion. If he was to keep her company, he would prefer to do so in a way that would make her smile.

Penelope took another sip of her drink. With Colin gone, it’s nice to have his older brothers around to protect her. Her father, the late Lord Featherington, didn’t give much attention to her. To her, she sees the young Viscount and Benedict as surrogate brothers. 

“I think I can taste it, Anthony.” She let out a chuckle and a snort. Luckily, it’s in front of Anthony. Imagine the horror it was with someone else. “I guess this the key to a wonderful time at her parties. I think I’m getting a little relaxed. But we must be careful or else they’ll think we’re attached.” Anthony Bridgerton

Anthony smiled as Penelope spoke of being able to taste it. "Then perhaps it best not to drink it in abundance," Anthony suggested, not wanting her to be too influenced by its effects. His words spoken in a protective manner, more than that of judgement. Penelope was as a younger sister to him and he did not wish to see judgmental eye of the ton upon her.

She did not need any more of that than she already received, nor did she deserved their judgments. "Come now Penelope," he continued. "I am fairly certain we have been seen in each other's company frequently enough that no one would think it beyond friendship." It was no secret after all, that the Bridgertons and Featheringtons were friends. At least the children among each noble family.

Anthony begins to pull Penelope away from the lemonade table, knowing any more sips will cause a scene. She appreciates Anthony being protective of her, especially in Colin’s absence. However, she does want to enjoy herself?

”Do you think Colin likes me?” Penelope giggles as the effects of the lemonade already taking place. She does have a feeling that the Viscount might place her in a carriage to take her leave early because of “illness” to prevent a scene. “Do you think he would like the lemonade? And why can’t my Mama stop dressing me in yellow? I look like an bloated lemon.”
