The Bridgerton family was well known here. They were the best of the best, all expected to marry well and that was the first thing that Lucy thought of when Viscount Bridgerton showed up on her doorstep. She had been expecting this for awhile, she knew that the Bridgerton siblings were very close and her relationship with Benedict was not a secret. Seeing his brother here she braced herself for what was coming but she had to ask. "Why didn't he come and talk to me himself?"

Tag: @lucygranville Note: Better layout coming soon! i will ALWAYS PROTECT YOU Anthony could not allow this any longer. He had recently discovered that Benedict and Lucy Granville had started . . . frequently seeing one another. Ordinarily, Anthony would not involve himself in such private affairs where his brother's personal business was concerned. However, the exception came when it compromised their family. When it compromised the future of their sisters and brothers who still had yet to be wed. It was why Anthony had injected himself in this matter, firstly by approaching the woman.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ He did not know the Granville's well, their paths not frequently crossing. But he hoped that she would understand his intentions and the sensitivity of the issue. Anthony was not one to go to her husband to inform him of this . . . affair. He did not want to cause such trouble so knew it best that they end things before anything else got out. Before the ton got wind of this scandal that would tarnish both the Granville and Bridgerton name.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ When she answered the door Anthony greeted her politely, before she asked why he hadn't he -- presumably Benedict -- talk to her himself. It was a valid question and one that Anthony would provide her answer to. "Because he does not know I have come." Anthony would surely tell Benedict, but right now, but he wanted it to be after the fact. "I was hoping to speak to you alone." Meaning, without anyone else present . . . especially her husband.

This moment was one that Lucy had been dreading, she knew that the Bridgerton family was high society but she had thought that she and Ben had been discreet with their affair. Having the Viscount now standing in front of her told her otherwise but this made her angry more than anything else. She had always known that one day Ben would no longer be a part of her life but when he told her goodbye. Not when his rake of a brother forced her out of his life. With a scowl on her pretty face she motioned to the Viscount to follow her. They passed her bedroom, she would never take him there. That room was reserved for her and the man she cared about. No she took the Viscount to her salon and then sank down in a chaise by the fireplace. Make yourself comfortable Viscount Bridgerton, in here we won't be disturbed.
So first I must tell you that I believe that what happens between two people is their business alone so I will be discussing anything we discuss today with Ben before any decisions are made. I know you like to pride yourself on being the man of your family but I should tell you your brother is man enough to handle his own affairs. Lucy spoke coldly as she glared at him. She knew all about him and thought how interesting it was for this man who was a well known rake and seemed to use ladies for sport dared to come to speak to her. Ben was nothing like his brother, he was not using her and they both knew that their time together would not last forever but he was up front with that. I am sure that you know that I am friends with Sienna, she told me many things about you.

Tag: @lucygranville Note: Better layout coming soon! i will ALWAYS PROTECT YOU Anthony silently followed her to where they entered a room, and once she was seated, he sat himself. Her words were immediate that of well, coldness. It was not difficult to sense in her tone, nor the accusation in them. He remained quiet, despite his disagreement. She was incorrect. It was not pride that brought him here. And she finished her words with reference to Siena. No. This was not about him. It never was about him. And when he had tried to find that glimpse of doing something for himself -- being with Siena -- his mother informed him that he needed to be the man of the house. For the sake of his sister.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ So whatever it was that Siena said, she even still . . . did not know him. He remained quiet, having hoped this could be a civil conversation. It would be difficult though, when the lady of the house made so many assumptions and presumed to know who he was. But, she could not possibly understand. Her husband was a second son and thus, she did not see him have to bare the responsibilities of an heir, or even one forced to step into that role.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ When she appeared to be finished, Anthony processed her words to decide where to begin. "I must disagree with you,," he began. "What happens between two people, is not their business alone when it can have detrimental effects on ones entire family." If word got out that Benedict was bedding a married woman, it would tarnish the Bridgerton name and in doing so . . . make it difficult for his dear sisters especially. They would be shunned and no suitors would seek out the Bridgerton daughters. Such, was the society they lived in. "And this is not about me," he added, referencing her lastly spoken words.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ Siena had nothing to do with this. Anthony was not here on behalf of himself or for his own sake . . . he was here for the sake of his family. "What is it that you hope to gain from this, affair you have with my brother?" Anthony asked, mindful that despite his disagreement, he was still in the presence of a lady, so kept his tone even, without anger. But it was also a way to open the conversation to explain her perspective. "If the ton was to hear of this, it would not only ruin the standing of your family, but also, of mine. And that, Mrs. Granville, is why I am here." His family was his responsibility and he would not have the Bridgertons compromised.

Lucy was pleasantly surprised that the Viscount did not interrupt her. He seemed to be listening intently and respectfully. She knew she probably sounded like a total bitch but him coming here was the beginning of the end and she knew it. It was the beginning of the end of her time with Ben and that she was going to fight until the bitter end because she loved him. Maybe it was wrong of her to do so but she did, now she struggled with how to expect this to his brother without saying those words. No this is not about you, it is about him. I won't stop spending time with him until he asks me to do so. Don't you know what its like to have... feelings for someone. I won't do anything to hurt him, I also won't be scared to see him because of this visit. She looked at him hurt by his words, what did she expect to get out of this affair? I don't expect to get anyone out of this affair but being able to spend time with him. Haven't you ever cared enough about a person that you just want to be near them? You haven't, or you would not be here. He seemed to want her to do exactly as he wished but if he had been in love he would understand this. Maybe he had been in love with Sienna, now she didn't care. She was not going to be scolded by a rake. I am sorry, your visit is a waste of time. When Ben tells me its over, its over.... not you. But I do want you to know this, I would ever do a thing to hurt him, I would rather die than hurt him.

Tag: @lucygranville Note: Better layout coming soon! i will ALWAYS PROTECT YOU This . . . was far worse than Anthony expected. He'd thought it a lustful affair -- which was bad enough -- but now she was saying that she had feelings for Benedict. That she remained stubborn in her desire to continue to see him and . . . that she would never hurt him. "You are married," he stated, as if that needed reminding. "What of your husband?" What of Henry? What about the promises she made to him on their wedding? But, Henry was not the focus here and Anthony would not get involved in the business of exposing this affair to him. That was between Lucy and her husband.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ But, the mere fact that she was married and yet spoke of Benedict in such a way . . . it left Anthony highly unsettled. "To what end will you continue this?" He questioned, legitimately curious for an answer. The dishonor in their actions as bad enough and yet . . . now they had developed feelings for one another> "You say you will not hurt him but you are already doing so," Anthony continued. "Do you not see that?" His tone curious to see if she was truly blind to it. If this, infatuation had blinded them both. "The longer you continue this, the stronger these . . . emotions will be. And then what? You are a wedded woman. You can not promise him a life beyond sneaking around in stolen moments." And . . . she was married!
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ "If you truly cared for him, you would release your hold on him so that he may find an eligible woman and create a family of his own." Because, he would not be able to do that with Lucy. "Do you not wish him to find that happiness?" When it came to matters of his siblings, he was unafraid to hold back. The difference here was that he could not challenge her to a duel nor allow his fists to give way to words. Instead, he had to verbalize the absurdity of their arrangement and hope that one of them would see sense and bring this to its inevitable end.

Yes I am married but my marriage is complicated, I won't be sharing details with you. I know how foolish I sound, I don't need you to tell me that. Lucy shot up off the chaise and walked over to where she kept the liquor, the hard stuff. She poured herself a double of rum then she downed it before she looked back at him. Ben and I know this is not forever, he also knows that I want him to get married and have children. I will let him go when he asks, not you. Don't you think that's only right, I don't want him to think that I pushed him out of my life because you asked me too. Pouring another double for herself, she poured one for Anthony too. Sitting it down in front of him she sank back down to the chaise then downed her rum again.
She dropped her glass to the floor then stared into the fire watching how the flames flickered and trying hard not to scream at this man. He might be a Bridgerton but he was definitely not like Ben. The next time he comes I will speak to him, and I will tell him you were here, Ben and I have no secrets from each other. Now that you have ruined my mood and thus the rest of my day I think its time for you to leave Viscount. See yourself out. She said coldly as she laid back closing her eyes.

Tag: @lucygranville Note: Assuming we're done this thread? i will ALWAYS PROTECT YOU Anthony took in her words about her marriage being complicated but that she would not divulge the details. Truthfully, he did not wish to know them. The less . . . involved he was in the affairs between her and her husband, the better. All he cared about was his brother, and protecting him from this affair that would inevitably end badly. But she went on to speak of how she would not end it unless Benedict told her as such, and that essentially Anthony's attempts were futile. She placed a glass of drink in front of him but it remained untouched. She no sooner dismissed him, saying to see himself out.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ Anthony remained seated for a moment, knowing that he would not overstay his welcome . . . but he did wish to make a few more things clear before he made his leave. "I came here to beseech you for the sake of my brother, to see the impact that this affair has on not only him, but my entire family." He paused for a moment, disappointed by the outcome. "But I now see that we can not reach a mutual understanding." He rose from his seated position to a stand. "I will speak to my brother as well as I do not intend on keeping this visit from him." There was no need for it and he knew Benedict would feel strain now that his affair was discovered by the Viscount. "I wish you a good day, Mrs Granville." And with that, he did as requested as made his leave from the Granville residence, hoping he would never have to return under such circumstances.

Lucy said nothing more as the Viscount spoke then left but her eyes opened and she blinked a few times feeling warm tears running down her face. She knew that he had been right, they needed to end this affair before it got out and harmed Benedict or his family. She would rather die than hurt him in any way but the thought of ending their relationship left her feeling lost. Benedict was the first man she had truly loved, he was perfect for her in every single way but for the fact that she was already married. Never in the years before they met had she ever regretted her decision but then the cruel fates put the perfect man in her path. If she had known that he was out there somewhere she might have chose to wait for him but there was no way to change the past.
As she stared off lost in thought she knew that she needed to see this through, end it before she hurt Ben in any way.
