Her business was doing quite well and Isabel took a moment to feel proud of herself and everything she had accomplished. While she knew she was responsible for most of it, she knew that none of it would have been possible without Slade. He was the reason she'd been in a financial position to open it in the first place. Everything might have been in his name but Isabel knew she was lucky that he allowed her to run it and reap as much of a profit on it as she did. No other man would allow a woman to make this kind of money.
Her connection to Reuben Slade, while forged long ago, was one she did not under-appreciate. She passed along information she knew he would find useful and she always looked out for him. Isabel thought it was ironic, or maybe something else entirely, that his own brother had come to visit her business and eventually ask her something most courtesans yearned for.
Isabel waited in her office, looking over papers and making sure everything was in order. Slade was scheduled to visit her today and the girls always knew to see him right to her office unless she was with someone else, which was not often these days. Glancing at the clock, she knew Slade would arrive and Isabel found herself quite amused by the news she had to share with him.

never make DECISIONS OUT OF FEAR. ONLY OUT OF SPITE. Slade was spending the day in the city and with doing so, attempted to schedule as many meetings as he could. Visiting his establishments to see their runnings was of course one of the most important priorities when in the heart of the city. Check ins with those responsible for their success, his associates with whom he had partnerships with . . . Slade was managing to have a very productive start. His next scheduled meeting was one with Isabel Mayfield.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ While his ownership of her establishment was discreet -- which was not an uncommon circumstance for Slade -- he still had to visit to ensure all was well and there was nothing she needed his assistance with. It was far easier to conduct these meetings in person, and at the business itself. So stepping out of the carriage, accompanied by his two guards whom he said could wait for him to return, Slade made his way to the front woman as she then directed him towards the Madame's office. Making his way there, he lightly knocked on the door before proceeding to push it a little further open with the bottom of his cane. "Miss Mayfield," he greeted, stepping into the room.

There was a knock on the door and Isabel looked up to see Slade peeking through. She grinned at him. "Lord Slade," she greeted formally. Isabel rose from behind her desk and walked over to where she kept her drinks, pouring something for herself and then Slade's usual. By this point in their relationship, and being business partners, the two of them had a bit of routine. Isabel was fond of routine as she disliked surprises, but today also called for what she thought of as celebratory drinks. Truthfully, she did not know what Slade would think of this news but she knew she was certainly entertained by it.
Glancing to see that he had his gloves on, she had no problem handing him his glass. "I have some entertaining news," Isabel said with a grin, taking her own glass and sitting back down on the other side of her desk. "Your dear brother has officially asked me to be his Mistress. Of course, under the stipulation that I no longer see clients and move into apartments that he will provide." It was incredibly difficult for Isabel to give up her independence and agree to the apartments, but she knew it was a usual request. "But this will allow me to focus my attentions elsewhere on the business, which I believe to be a good thing."

never make DECISIONS OUT OF FEAR. ONLY OUT OF SPITE. Once she greeted him, Slade moved further into the room. Giving a nod of gratitude for the drink prepared, he took hold of the glass and made his way to her desk, sitting on the side opposite from hers. He set the glass down for a moment, removing his hat and placing it next to it. She had spoken of entertaining news, so Slade remained quiet so that she may reveal it. When she did . . . well, he knew he should not be entirely surprised and yet, the officiality of it was not quite expected. At least at this moment. He watched Isabel carefully at this revelation of news, watching her expression, sensing her tone . . . seeing the ease in which she disclosed it. Judging from all such things, it was not something unwanted by her. As she continued, she even spoke of it being a good thing.
Ordinarily, Slade did not mix his personal life with his business life. His blood family was so far removed from it and he would never even consider allowing them to overlap. That being said, he trusted Isabel emphatically. He was not concerned with her divulging anything or letting any content of their business slip. Had he even a shred of doubt or uncertainty, he would not have allowed himself to trust her as much as he did. Or consider her among his closest in his circle. Yet, there was one thing he need make certain for despite how it sounded . . . his overprotective nature still required him to ask. Required him to hear her confirm it.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ "This is of your own volition?" He asked her, needing to be sure. His brother was a Duke and he knew how William carried himself. He would not wish for Isabel to be placed in such arrangement where choice was stripped from her. "For if it is, and it an arrangement you are pleased with, I hold no objection." And while he knew that it would not technically matter if he did for the decision was made . . . it was his way of saying, that she still held his support and that this, did not change his own personal relationship or dynamic with the now Mistress of his own brother.
