Newton's Day Out

Kate clipped on Newton's leash, and stood up to smile at her baby. "You will like it, I promise!" She insisted of her pudgy dog. Everyone needed a little air after so much busyness, so she and Edwina were going to take a turn around the park with Newton as their guide. Kate loved Newton so very much, and even if he was a handful, she would always see him as a her little darling.

"EDWI--na" Turning mid name, she saw her sister was already approaching, thus there was no reason to yell. "Newton is ready if you are!" Looking over her sister, Kate once again was brought up at how different they where--despite having the same father. Edwina was beautiful, and surely would turn many heads on this walk.

Edwina had been thrilled when Kate asked her to join her for a walk but then she saw that Kate was getting Newton ready to go.  Normally taking him along would be fine but now that they were here Edwina didn't want to be seen fighting with him.  Walking Newton was always a challenge because he would only walk when and where he wanted to and he was prone to tugging them along whenever he got excited.  But the worst was when he would suddenly sit down and refuse to move, he was too heavy to carry to far so Edwina groaned loudly.  You are bringing him?  He will make both of us look like fools in front of the entire Ton!  Can't we go without him?


She pulled on her coat and was arranging her hair when Kate came over to the door. Newton was sitting like a good dog at the moment but as soon as he saw Edwina he started to bark and wag his tail.  Then she let out a shrill cry when Newton tried to jump on her dress.  Why must he always do that?

Kate knew not everyone loved her baby like she did, however she knew that Kate loved him too--just not as much. Which was why Kate ignored her sister's protest, and instead told Newton he needed to behave. "Newton will behave, he simply needs to get out of this house for a while. A nice walk will tire him into sleeping for the afternoon."

Which was true, poor sweet old Newton was not as young as he used to be, though it was hard to tell sometimes. He was still a bundle of fluff that needed all the attention he could wiggle out of anyone around him. Which was why Kate was insistent on bringing Newton for their walk. That had maybe he would be a good excuse should someone unsustainable for Edwina should approach.

It was perfect.

Edwina sighed as she waved at Newton to stop jumping up.  She was afraid that he was going to tear or stain her new gown.  When he finally stopped, she opened the door for the dog and her sister.  Fine, Kate then let's go.  I just hope that he does behave himself today.  She shut the door behind them and smiled as they started to walk.

The weather was sunny with a light breeze and it felt wonderful to feel the warmth on her face.  Edwina tipped her head back.  Where shall we walk to?  Isn't there a park near us?  She looked with interest when a carriage drove by.  I think that I like it here in London, maybe I can find a man who lives here.  It is a strange thought to be thinking of all that, this time next year we could both be married.  I do hope I find a man that I can love.
