Kathani "Kate" Bridgerton might have taken a bit to warm up to her now husband, but it had taken incredibly less time for her to find kinship with his sisters. On in particular whom she found rather charming, even if she did not know her well. After a quiet wedding to Anthony, and a perfect time with just the two of them, Kate & him was back in London.
She knew the Ton still had opinions about her marriage, even if the queen had given her favor so they dared not say anything direct. Which was why she had yet to announce her return to anyone just the family. In a few days they could welcome visitors, but for now the quiet days were perfect for settling in.
Currently, Kate was trying to take over the management of the house without stepping on anyone's toes. Violet Bridgerton had managed this household for so many years, and she did not want to push her aside, as she respected her too much. However, she also wanted to take on her role as a viscountess with purpose and pose. Yet every time she turned around and attempted to change something there was always a silent pause. A look that suggested it was not right. That it had not been done that way for years. Or it was not how one did it in England.
No one was disrespectful, but she knew that the change was not happening as smoothly as she intended. Which was why she happened to shut the back door a little too hard as she made her way to the patio for tea time. Only to find her slamming of the door had intruded on someone's reading time. "Eloise." Kate said said in greeting and surprise.
📚 📖 🍵 ☕ @eloisebridgerton NOTE: I always get mixed up if "my muse" means my muse or your muse. If you want me to switch it around, I also have an idea for that one as well. xoxo

eloise & kate. When Eloise had told her brother that it would be a 'boon to have another intelligent woman in the house', she'd meant it. Though she hadn't quite expected Kate to wind up being the one marrying Anthony, she'd admired her long before her brother had made his feelings for her public knowledge. The elder of the two Sharma sisters had always struck Eloise as someone to look up to; she seemed as independent and stubborn as the fifth Bridgerton herself, she hadn't seemed at all concerned about being a spinster, and while it was mildly disappointing to the younger girl to see her wed, at least it had been a choice. The worst thing about marriage, in her opinion, was how young ladies seemed so forced into it; most wouldn't dream of rejecting a proposal, even if seemed as if they were given a choice. At the end of the day, young ladies of the ton were expected to be married as soon as they were able, and most pushy mamas wouldn't take 'no' for an answer. At least Kate and Anthony seemed happy, that was something, and it was nice having Kate around, especially now she had very few others to speak to. With Theo and Penelope no longer in her life, she could use somebody who wasn't one of her siblings or her mama. The sound of her sister-in-law's voice caused her to glance up from her book, slowly setting it to one side — a true compliment to how much she enjoyed Kate's company, for she wouldn't set aside her reading for just anyone. Had she been interrupted by one of her younger siblings, she likely would have told them how annoying they were, and gone off somewhere else to continue the chapter. With Kate, however, she already had her full attention. How difficult it must have been to settle into the Bridgerton household, with such a large, boisterous family, especially after the way things had come about. While each and every one of them had been fully supportive of Kate and Anthony's union, she was certain there were still whispers within the ton. Between the wedding, and Eloise's 'political radicalism', the Bridgerton and Sharma names were likely to remain on everyone's lips until a new season came about, and there was something new to speak of. "Are you quite alright? I have taken my own frustrations out on that very same door plenty of times in my lifetime — it seldom helps. I may be better at speaking than I am at listening, but you can talk to me, you know. We can be candid here, I'm hardly going to tell anyone else." It wasn't an offer she made to many; she was blunt, and with most likely wouldn't have been quite as gentle with her words with many others, but she could at least try with Kate. She knew that she had interrupted her reading, but was grateful for the kind words. The Bridgertons were anything if they were welcoming. She had wondered how Anthony's mother and family would welcome her after the choices of the season, but they had welcomed her with open arms and love. For that she felt a kinship and belonging that made her want to protect them.
"Tis kind of you," Kate said, as she stepped closer. Welcoming the company, but was not quite sure she should lay her burdens on a girl who had already had strong burdens put on her. She'd heard of the scandal and knew of the pressures put on Eloise. Kate liked her. She made Kate miss her own sister, though the girls were nothing a like. Edwina was more innocent, and in awe of the world around her. She saw the grand things around her and lit up. Eloise had a more realistic view. It did not mean that either one would have an easier time of it. Yet, like Kate tried to protect Edwina, she would so the same for Anthony's sister.
"I would hate to sour your day with trival frustrations." Moving closer, Kate gestured the seat, asking permission for her to sit and join her.

eloise & kate.
With a nod, she gave Kate a soft smile. She certainly didn't mind her company, she found her easy to talk to; interesting enough. Their conversation about society and unmarried women still played on her mind from time to time, and while clearly the elder of the two had ended up married after all, she still respected that she'd been perfectly alright as a spinster. It was exactly the life Eloise expected to wind up in...as soon as her family accepted that she wasn't going to find happiness in any of the gentlemen of the ton. Another season or two, and perhaps it would become apparent that they were wasting their time. That, however, was hardly the point now. While Eloise was usually one to talk anybody's ear off about anything, she'd rather not have to talk about herself for the time being. After everything that had come about at the end of the previous social season, she'd rather avoid it entirely. The ton may have moved on, but she was still affected: the political radicalism reveal, the loss of her two greatest friendships...she'd rather speak about anything but her own life, at least for the time being. "You would not be 'souring my day' in the slightest, Kate, I assure you. I may be better at talking than I am at listening—" wasn't that the truth. "—but that doesn't mean I cannot listen. Try me." Kate took the seat, and crossed one long leg over the other. While her actions were not dainty they were proper. Which could describe Kate as a whole. She was not dainty like her sister, but she did not embarrass herself either. It was something she did not mind being around her new sister-in-law, as she felt unjudged.
Kate looked back at the door, and then Eloise. "Tis simply the household has been run by your mother for . . . . over thirty years." Kate admitted with a small hint of warmth in her voice that might have even been pride. Or awe. How Violet Bridgerton had done it, and having a house full of children was amazing and frightening.
"And I fear change will come slow. Perhaps with more effort than anticipated." Everyone, family or servant, had been welcoming. It was not the lack of welcome she felt. It was the changing of the guard. She valued Violet but was not sure how to take over the household without stepping on toes.

eloise & kate. This, she supposed, was what happened when people got married. Eloise longed for freedom, for the chance to make her own way, but it was likely she’d only ever be able to make her ‘own way’ in her husband’s household — be in charge of the home and the children, like a long line of women before her. It was depressing to think that was almost the only choice she had. Marriage didn’t appeal, but she supposed it was something to be in charge of, at the very least.Kate was someone she admired, someone she could look up to, and that wasn’t going to change just because she was married. Eloise may have wished to have a happy spinster to look up to, but it was quite thrilling to have her in the Bridgerton household. She was undoubtedly the kind of person Eloise longed to talk to, and hopefully there’d be plenty of opportunity for that.“Have you spoken to her? She was a Ledger before she was a Bridgerton,” she reminded her. Thirty years was a long time, but she’d have been in Kate’s position once. Every lady would have been, at the beginning of their marriage. “She had to take over from my grandmother. It may have been a long time ago, but I hardly think she’d mind helping you. My mama likes you, Kate. We all do.” [attr="class","mizocredit"] [newclass=.mizocredit a]font:bold 6pt calibri;letter-spacing:1px;color:#b5d1f1;[/newclass]
