.:Physical Appearance:. Given his position in various upper class households, Giles tries his best with his appearance. He is no gentleman, and it isn't the most important thing to him, but he is always neat and tidy, dressed in the appropriate attire for a butler, his clothes always clean and well-presented. He doesn't view himself as anything particularly special, only really priding himself on his height, but it is hardly as if such things matter in his position.

.:Personality:. Like any other member of the help, Giles enjoys gossiping. It may usually be reserved for the maids and the like, but he's never been a stranger to it. On the contrary, he will remain ever the professional in front of his employers, and be the first to spill and listen to secrets when alone with other members of household staff. Having been a butler for many years at this stage in his life, he's learnt to patient with even the most frustrating members of the ton, and knows exactly how to handle them and his duties. He is agreeable, listens, does as he's told...and keeps his other interests for when his employers are not around.

.:History:. Very little is remembered of Giles' childhood – the early years, at least. Whether or not he has siblings is a mystery to him, and while he knows he had parents, he's hardly sure if he met them or not. He was raised in an orphanage, with a slew of other parent-less young children. Whether or not they were lower class, high class or a mix of the two is entirely unknown to him. He has his theories, of course, that perhaps he was born to a woman out of wedlock, perhaps the mistress of a well known gentleman...the truth didn't really matter, he'd never know for certain. 

As a young boy, he was used as a chimney sweep, and slowly worked his way up from there. He worked a myriad of different professions throughout Manchester as a boy, and when he became a man, he worked his way over to London. Having worked in various different roles, he'd managed to save up some money, buy himself some better clothes...from there, he was able to achieve better positions. 

He was thirty by the time he first became a butler, having worked his way up from a position as a footman in a noble household. The first house he worked in was lovely, when compared to the next two. He started working for the Featheringtons, hired by Archibald Featherington some years ago. Phillipa, Prudence and Portia Featherington were exhausting, though he managed to stick at his job there for some time – until the gentleman of the house was killed, the money was bled dry, and all the household staff were let go. 

Having served a well-known family for some years, Giles didn't think he'd have issue finding a new position within the ton. Fortunately – or unfortunately, depending on how well you know the family, he was soon hired by the Cowpers. The Featheringtons may have seemed exhausting at the time, but it seems he only went from one bad family to a worse one.
