Frannie was thrilled when she was told that Elizabeth had arrived and she ran to greet her. Taking her hands she pulled her outside to the gardens with her then giggled. I have been waiting for you, I cannot believe some of the things I have been hearing. That Lady Whistledown has been writing about my family again!

Spending time at the Bridgerton house was not out of the ordinary for Elizabeth. Usually one could always find a member of one family at the other's house. It was a great friendship that had formed between the two families due to the patriarchs of each being friends since boyhood. Elizabeth was usually found with the Bridgerton family, as she often enjoyed their company more than her own siblings. This afternoon she was pleased to be spending time with Francesca, laughing as she allowed the younger girl to pull her into the gardens.
"Oh? And what does she say this time? I did not have time to read the paper this morning." Her sister, Emily, was fond of reading Whistledown but everyone else in the Davenport house usually went without reading it unless their own name was mentioned or even that of the Bridgerton family.

Frannie walked as they talked and she found herself bursting with the news. Poor Daphne has been mentioned so many times but now it seems that Whistledown has been watching my brothers. Anthony in particular has caught her eye. She stopped walking then. All I know is that she refers to him as a rake but I am not entirely sure what that means. Does he have something that he does that hurts them? Or it is just that he won't marry anyone?

Elizabeth listened intently, wondering what had happened for Daphne to be mentioned so many times. Although she supposed it could be a good thing if she was doing many things right. Then Francesca asked about Anthony being a rake and she found herself in a rather awkward position. Most of the time, Elizabeth would have no trouble explaining things but this was something where she was worried age would become a factor. It was probably inappropriate for her to explain such a thing to her, but Elizabeth found herself going against her better judgement.
"Well a rake is a man who rather enjoys the company of women," she said slowly. "But if anyone asks where you learned such a thing, blame one of your brothers," Elizabeth added quickly. "It's not a good term." But there was no doubt that Anthony Bridgerton was indeed, a rake.

Frannie could tell that Elizabeth was thinking before she answered her question, she was content to give her time and when she mentioned that being a rake meant that Anthony liked the company of women she nodded. I do know that Anthony does enjoy the ladies attention but yet he never speaks of marriage. Mother has been trying her best to give him the motivation to settle down already. Then she started to laugh as she promised that no one would learn what Elizabeth told her. Don't worry I will definitely blame one of my brothers if anyone asks me about what a rake is, the way Whistledown writes about Anthony it sounds like he has enjoyed half of the ladies in the ton. I know Mother wants him to settle down but I don't see that happening anytime soon.

It seemed that Francesca didn't have it quite right but she didn't feel the need to correct her. A Rake was much more than someone who simply enjoyed the company of woman, but rather many woman without getting married. It was improper and usually frowned upon, depending on the ranking of the Rake in question. But it wasn't like it would destroy his entire life, not like if he were a woman who was known for spending time with multiple men. "I'm sure Anthony will settle down when he is ready," Elizabeth pointed out. "He knows it is important for the family." And in Elizabeth's opinion, Anthony would do anything for his family.
She chuckled and nodded her head. "You can always pretend you simply don't know what it is," Elizabeth pointed out. It was an astute observation for her to believe her brother had been with half the ladies in the ton. Elizabeth didn't know the details but she didn't believe she was entirely wrong. It was quite possible but she felt she didn't need to comment on the situation, at least not to Francesca. "I'm not sure your mother will have much luck with any of your brothers," she said with a grin.

Frannie laughed when she said that Anthony would settle down later. Anthony settle down? Mother had been trying to give him subtle hints and nods for years. Last week I even saw her making a list of ladies she thought he should consider. Anthony does what Anthony wants, if he settles down anytime soon I would be shocked. She continued to listen to her friend and then she laughed again. I think you are certainly right, Mother will have trouble with all of my brothers and probably with Eloise as well. The boys don't see any advantage of settling down and Eloise wants to do things that she won't ever be allowed too. Thinking of her family she sighed then her voice softened. Now I am sure Mother is missing Father more than ever, I am sure she never imagined she would have to do all of this alone.

Elizabeth chuckled and nodded her head. "Yes, you just said that, silly girl." She didn't know how well the conversations seemed to go between Violet and her eldest son, but she supposed it was none of her business. The idea of a list made her feel sorry for the girls on that list. To be reduced to a list for a man to pick from? Now that was truly something Elizabeth disliked. "Well, so long as I'm not on that list then we shall leave that problem to Anthony," she said with a teasing grin.
It was no surprise that Violet would have trouble with all of them. Things certainly hadn't been easy for the Davenport family either. Her eldest brother, Alexander, was married but that was it. Her other brother, William was unmarried and then so was Elizabeth. Her younger siblings weren't of age yet but she knew Emily would be having her first season shortly. "Can you blame her? I dare say I agree with Eloise. Getting married certainly changes your life." She sighed when she thought about Violet doing this on her own. Her father had re-married so he had someone, but it wasn't Elizabeth's mother. It simply wasn't the same.

Even Lady Whistledown knows Anthony won't ever settle down. Only an extraordinary lady will change him. Frannie laughed at the thought but then she sighed thinking of her mother. I wish I could help Mother but I know there's not much I can do.She looked over at her friend. Marriage is meant to change our lives, so are there any gentlemen you might tolerate?

She knew Whistledown tended to give Anthony a hard time when it came to settling down, as did the rest of his family, but Elizabeth wasn't sure she agreed that he would never settle down. In Elizabeth's opinion, she thought Anthony was aware of how important it would be for him to marry someday. One thing she admired about him the most was his loyalty to his family and marrying someone fell under that. "Well I dare say I don't think that's quite true," Elizabeth said. "He'll marry somebody. It might just be a bit more time." Not that it was any of Elizabeth's business. No doubt that was a family matter for the Bridgerton's, but she couldn't help but to form an opinion given how close she was with the family.
Frannie's question about if there were any men Elizabeth might tolerate made her sigh. There were certainly tolerable ones but that didn't mean she wanted to spend the rest of her life with them. "You shouldn't find someone simply tolerable if you are going to spend the rest of your life with them," she pointed out. "But no, I have found no gentlemen worth my time thus far."

Frannie had no idea what her brother was thinking when it came to getting married but she knew that Anthony was going to make sure that the rest of them married well. She had seen how he was so involved in Daphne's debut. It was a comforting thought to know he would be there for her but there was also a drawback. Her brother would be involved in her love life which was daunting. I hope I don't sound dreadfully naive. I know there's many things to consider when finding a husband but I do hope for a love match like Daphne and Simon. She nodded to Elizabeth. I know you will find a perfect gentleman, who could not love you?

Elizabeth took a moment to think of what Francesca had to say. Did she believe her naive to want a love match like her sister and even her parents? In a way, yes. There were many people that dreamed of a love match but would never get one as it was not in the cards and duty often overlooked one's desires. But Elizabeth could not point these things out as she knew that in her own mind, she wished for the same. She wished for a love match like the one her mother and father had because she it was possible. Perhaps it was why Elizabeth had been so disinterested in all of the suitors that had come to call upon her over her past two seasons. It was because she could not picture having a happy life with them and she could not picture herself falling in love.
But Francesca was still young and Elizabeth decided that it was not her place to point such things out to her. "I do not think it is dreadfully naive," she assured her. "Plenty of people want a love match and there is nothing that says you do not deserve one." Because truly, Elizabeth cared about everyone in the Bridgerton family and wished them all to be happy with their lives. At the mention of Francesca stating that Elizabeth would find the perfect gentleman, she chuckled and shook her head. "I'm less certain of that as time goes on," she said with a soft sigh. "I have not been able to find my match yet."

All the talk about love made Frannie smile, she loved knowing that her own parents were a true love match and that gave her hope that there might be one in her future. She knew that Elizabeth might be losing faith but she wanted somehow to convince her not to give up just yet. I know that I sound naive, but I don't want to give up one that dream yet.Frannie moved to grab Elizabeth by the hand and she pulled her with her to the nearest mirror in the room. Look at that beauty, some day soon a smart man is going to sweep you off your feet. I would bet on it!
