The past couple of days, Violet noticed her sons were hiding from her. Not even Francesca can figure out what was going on. 

The best way to solve this issue: dinner, featuring gooseberry pie!

Anthony had just arrived home, ensuring he was on time. He would have stayed later at the gentleman's club however his mother has specially requested that he be home for dinner so that they may eat together. With Daphne married and off with Simon, and Francesca having recently returned . . . it would indeed be nice to have them together for a nice meal. He made his way into their home, passing his hat to the butler as he made his way to the dining room, seeing his mother already there . . . and it also seemed that he was the first to arrive. "Mother," he greeted, approaching her and giving her a light kiss on the cheek in greeting. "Who else will be joining us this evening?" He asked, unsure how many of the siblings would be in the room tonight.

Violet was happy that her eldest child arrived first for dinner. After receiving a light kiss from him. 

“Anthony.” Violet grinned as they sat down. “I am glad you are here. Besides you, the only ones who accepted the invitation was Benedict and Francesca. I would hope they will come soon. Daphne left a message that she is busy. Surprised Eloise didn’t respond. And Colin is no where to be found. I find that odd as he loves food.” Anthony Bridgerton Benedict Bridgerton @francescab

Anthony gave a small smile of amusement when their mother mentioned that it was surprising Colin had not responded given his love for food. "Perhaps he will miraculously appear ones the aroma of it fills the estate," Anthony joked, taking his seat at the end of the table. "No matter, a small family gathering will still be nice," he said contently. "How was your day, mother?" He asked, wondering how she spent her time today.

"Yes." Violet agrees with her son. "How could he miss out on gooseberry pie? It's a shame that Simon is missing out on the pie."

She holds her son's hand, concerned about his well-being. 

"My son. You need to take a step back and enjoy yourself." Violet started, giving Anthony a reflective smile. "I may be a woman, but I am capable of handling affairs for you. The office is a mess of all of your paperwork. If you are overwhelmed, take a break. Go to Aubrey Hall. Don't take your frustration on your siblings, especially Benedict. Even Francesca was not immune to your frustration."

Frannie was thrilled at the family gathering at dinner but she had been out walking in the gardens and completely lost track of time.  She rushed into the room with a smile and then a smirk when she saw that Anthony way there too.  Hello Mother, sorry I am late and brother, its nice to see you.  I hear you have been quite busy.

After she settled down in her chair Frannie turned to her Mother with a smile.  It has been a wonderful day, I went for a walk with a friend this morning and this afternoon I started to practice a new song on the piano forte.  She shared then started to reach for things on the table.  I hope to learn it soon, it is a bit more challenging than the last song I played.  Looking over at Anthony she had to ask.  What did you do today brother?  And wait, did you say there is gooseberry pie?

Anthony's eyes met his mothers as she gently reached out to hold his hand. He took in her words, offering to handle his affairs . . . suggesting taking a break. The mention of Aubrey Hall had Anthony forcing himself to maintain eye contact with his mother so not to give any indication of the emotional impact he felt at the location. Truth was, he had not visited often since their father's passing. Aubrey Hall had been such a lovely place to visit with the entire family as the spent time away from the ton. But ever since Edmund's death . . . the place was of bittersweet sentiment. Yet, he appreciated his mother's concern of his well being and her hope to ease his workload.

"Thank you, Mother," he said sincerely, genuinely grateful for what she said. "But I would not burden you with having to deal with such affairs." It was his responsibility as Viscount and he did not want his mother to have to take on the load of work. "After all, I am certain the others are handful enough, with Eloise's season approaching." And three brothers who were not yet wed. But Anthony left that part out not wishing to place himself in the line of fire or target his own bachelor life.

The mention of Francesca had Anthony part his lips to answer but no sooner did she join. He gave a small of greeting as she sat. Deciding to leave the conversation of his frustrations with siblings for another time, preferably without them in the room, Anthony listened as his mother and Francesca exchanged words, their dinner starting to fill their plates. He looked up when Francesca asked him what he did today. "Nothing of note," he said casually, thinking back on the goings on of the day.

"I had a great deal of paperwork to catch up on. Then I went to the club for a couple of meetings." The gentleman's club of course. Anthony would not be in attendance at the more . . . questionable areas. "Nothing of terrible interest for you I would imagine," he said with a light tease, though holding truth to his words. His mother's mention of Aubrey Hall did have him thinking . . .as did his promise to Hyacinth about having her join them in Pall Mall.

"I was thinking that with the season ending, perhaps we should all plan for a trip to Aubrey Hall." Taking his mother's advice, and keeping true to his promise to Hyacinth. After all, with Daphne married and others that were to follow, gathering together as a family would become more challenging as others moved away and settled into their own lives.

Violet listened to her son and daughter’s recent concerns and progress. She does miss Daphne as she, along with Francesca, are proficient in the piano forte.

“I am happy about your progress. Once the song is finished, I’m sure you’ll be happy to share it with us. Maybe it will impress a potential suitor in the future.” She gave a wink to her daughter before turning to Anthony. “I know you have plenty of paperwork, my son. But I can deal with Eloise’s debut to take the load off.”

She is sure that Anthony is still apprehensive of returning to Aubrey Hall. But with summer approaching and Hyacinth beginning Anthony to come along, the time away from London would be good for him.

Maybe the return to Kent will give Anthony a clear head of finding a future Viscountess instead of gifting tokens to his many mistresses.

Frannie nodded to her mother.  I will play it for you once I've mastered it.  It might take me some time but now that I don't have to share the piano forte I can practice twice as much.

She ate as she listened to Anthony and Mother.  Will we invite Daphne and Simon to Aubrey Hall?  It seems like Daff has already been gone for so long.  Do you think she misses us?

Thinking of Francesca's debut into society was . . . daunting. Though Anthony made no sign or indication of the inward stress of it all. To find someone suitable for any of his sisters seemed like an impossible task. Finding someone for Daphne had not been easy and it had taken Anthony time to accept Simon was being anywhere near suitable for her. So to think, that it would need to be done three more times was indeed a nerve wrecking thought. "Thank you, mother," Anthony said politely, sincerely when she offered to lessen the load. "But it is also my responsibility to ensure she finds a suitable husband." And he would not dismiss not neglect that duty out of his own convenience.

Had Edmund been alive, the responsibility would have fallen onto him so Anthony would do what was necessary . . . in the hopes of making his father proud. When Francesca asked about inviting Daphne and Simon, Anthony easily had answer to this. "We most certainly well," he assured her. "Whether she is able to come is an entirely different matter." Since it would depend on Simon and Daphne's availability. But Anthony would be insistent, for it was important that they still make time to spend together as a family. "I'm sure there are moments where she does not," he said jokingly -- though not without truth. "I imagine the transition has its challenges with it," he added on. Going from a household of seven siblings, a mother and household staff that they had been raised by and with . . . to a new household staff, and only a husband. Yes, Anthony was certain it was both an enjoyable and difficult transition indeed.

Violet knows it’s a matter of time each of her children will take their different paths in life and love. Daphne and Simon are on their way. She has many years to go with her youngest children, until Gregory heads to Eton. Colin is on his tour. Eloise is spending her time at the Featheringtons. 

“By the way, any word where if your brother Benedict?” She asked as she takes a bite of her meal. “I haven’t seen him much lately.” 

She does look at Anthony, really hoping he takes her advice to heart. Aubrey Hall still haunts him but it will take the stress off of London life.

Frannie reached for her glass and sipped from it as she listened to her mother and oldest brother talk.  Then she looked over at her brother.  She was always happy knowing he was looking out for her.  Anthony would never let her marry just anyone, he would make sure any gentleman who she spoke to was a good one.

As they talked about Daphne Frannie felt sad as she did miss her but it was time for Daphne to have her own family just as one day she'd have her own as well.  I know I don't say it enough but thank you to both of you.  It's nice to know I'll always have the best family there is.

As nothing was further said regarding Eloise's debut to society nor Aubrey Hall, Anthony presumed those subjects were laid to rest. Instead, his mother inquired about Benedict. "I do not know where he is," he answered simply. He did not keep intensive tabs on his brothers to know where they were at at all times.

Benedict and Colin were here when they were required, and out and about when they were not. So long as they did nothing to compromise the family name, Anthony was well and fine with it. "I am sure he is fine," Anthony added confidently. Upon Francesca's words, the Viscount gave a small smile. "You most certainly will," Anthony assured, for she would always have her family support among them.
