Kate was enjoying the ball, even though she hadn't wanted to come in the first place. London was a bit over whelming for her, and she was still growing accustom to so many people together in one place. The balls she'd been too in the country were so much smaller, and simpler than that grand scale and ornate ball she was attending now. Jaded as she was however, she didn't stand cow eyed and giddy. She knew she had to walk as if she belonged.

And she did belong. Her father's title had assumed that, even if his coin had not. Even Lady Whistledown had commented on her dresses, which seem to mean that she was accepted. Not getting mentioned was a sign you were not be noticed. Kate was not sure if the unflattering things said meant she was worth noticing, but if it helped Edwina, she would accept it.

Besides, her baby sister seemed to love the gossip rag.

Kate looked at the bill for the dress they had just received and felt her eyes widened. She did not say anything right now (for once) because she wanted Edwina to enjoy the season without fear of what it was costing. It was after all the event they had been saving for. Kate's first season had been put off until Edwina was old enough to have a season as well, as the family could not afford two seasons in London--and everyone knew that Edwina was going to be the one who find a husband before Kate.

Setting the bill to the side, she looked up at her sister, who was sorting the new gowns that just arrived. There was the white gown for being presented to the Queen, but the rest as some pastel colors that would look wonderful on her debutante sister. Pushing the money from her mind she smiled and walked over. "We might need two carriages. One for us, and a whole separate one for your gowns." Kate teased, joking with her sister as she inspected some of the dresses, and material.

It was cold, and they were lost. Kate's toes hurt from walking in the snow, and she did not have a warm coat since she had not planned on getting out of the warm carriage to walk. The night was supposed to be simple. She had dressed for a late supper hosted by a neighbor, and her new husband had ordered the carriage to be warmed both on the way there, and for their return. Which had been wonderful! Despite the awkwardness that was between them, there was times when Anthony did little things that showed he cared. Heated bricks had been awaiting her slippered feet in the carriage. She had covered in a blanket, and her coat was simple enough that she was well warmed.

Then the axle had broken, and the snow had started coming harder. And harder still. Enough that everyone feared that they would not make it back tonight by carriage, so they either had to walk back to the neighbor's house or try for home. They had left the driver with the horses, to try to make it home quicker through the wooded area, rather then the main roads which would have taken two more hours. How Anthony could find his way anywhere in this all white was beyond her!

In fact she was coming to wonder if he could. "Anthony, I cannot keep walking!" She told him, while still walking behind him, using his footprints as her steps as well. The blanket felt too think, and her slippers felt frozen.

Kate narrowed her eyes at her approaching husband, not missing the smug look on his face. She would admit that once in their courtship that the smug look on his face would have driven her to annoyance--how it both charmed and annoyed her. An odd mixed of emotions that she could not explain in words to another, other then to say that yes, he still knew just how to get under her skin and yes she enjoyed it when they played these games.

Folding her arms over her chest she let him come closer to her, rather then her approaching him. "You know it was mine for the last two years." She reminded him, "And you are aware that I have days yet to find it." Another reminder. Meaning he better not let his guard down, because Kate was very tenacious in her life. She would not be put out for long.

Kate walked down the hall with Newton's little legs following behind her. For every one of her larger steps, Newton had to take many to to keep up, with his furry belly hanging low. Kate wore a walking dress, and carried Newton's lead in her hands as she made her way toward the morning room were her new sister-in-law waited.

Walking into the room, Kate smiled over at Eloise. "Apologies for keeping you waiting." Kate began, as she walked closer and took a seat next to her new sister-in-law. "Good morning." Newton lifted his front legs, and Kate bent to lift him to the couch beside her--something she knew Anthony would have something to say about, however she also he secretly did not care.
