"Excellent," he murmurs, barely meeting Connor's eyes as he sits there beside him. Henry's mind is occupied elsewhere, in the image of Benedict's blues staring back at him in -- what was it? Fright? Astonishment? Wanting? No, that last one is Henry's hope. How awful to Alfred, to suddenly be entranced by this baby duckling. The Bridgerton was still finding his way out of his cage, exploring places he never thought he'd enter, and Henry was his initial guide. Perhaps he had led him into the dark too quickly. "Good, good show," he adds, brushing his fingers through his mussed up hair. He'd indulged too much. He knows it. Alas, what was he to do? Most were comfortable with this freedom that Henry gave them to be themselves, so it was no surprise when people like him were drawn to these parties. He considered Benedict might be like him, too. Like them, Henry reminds himself as he gazes to Connor. This time he finds his eyes, but it is hard to hold his gaze. Not when he can see the --- judgement is not the right word. Concern? Is Morrison concerned about him? "Is that what you wished to discuss?" He asks, noting the lack of a glass beside him. Henry's finished; he won't touch more tonight. He already dreads morning and the headache that will surely take him. "I should hate that you stayed so late to check on my. . . sobriety." He rubs his hand over his face before pinching the bridge of his nose. Tagged: Connor Morrison

HENRY HAD ALWAYS FEARED THIS DAY. He wanted to believe that Alfred -- that Wetherby -- was a braver man, that in spite of the choking pressure hold of the Ton he would persevere. Henry was foolish to believe that Alfred would fight for them, for him. He learned that he was not worth it in the end, that this was a fleeting relationship. He stands there speechless when Alfred looked into his eyes and says, "it's over, Granville. Don't make this harder than it is."
"Oh! Oh, is it hard for you? Because you make it seem as if it is the easiest thing in the entire world --""How is that fair? You knew I would have to take a wife! It is still required of me, or the people will start talking. We cannot handle scandal. We will not survive the gossip." "I thought you would find someone like Lucy! That you -- do you not love me? I feel completely lost, like I have been lied to this entire time.""What we had was beautiful, Henry. I shall treasure our time together as long as I live, but that time has passed. I am sorry." With that, he leaves. Henry feels as though he has been sucker punched. The air leaves his lungs, and he stumbles back until he falls into a chair. His hands tremble, and he is lost as he stares at the emptiness that Alfred left. He had been shouting, so it would not surprise him if the whole party heard his outburst. How devious to do this in such a public setting, but Alfred was always dramatic. His brows furrow, and he feels sick to his stomach. How does he go on when his whole world has suddenly ended? He and Alfred were supposed to last until the end of their lifetimes. They would retire to the country when they got too old, and they would be together -- and history would dub them as "good friends." Henry has never loved someone so fully as he loved Alfred Wetherby, and now there is an empty hole in his chest. His lips purse together as the tears burn his eyes, and he can hear some knocking on the door. . . There is music outside and talking. Perhaps Henry had been quiet enough and someone was trying to use the room. But no, no, he will be alone. If he is to be alone, he must get used to the feeling. "Go away," he says, his voice cracking as he raises it. He is weak, as though Alfred's words physically wounded him. Tagged: Benedict Bridgerton

HENRY IS RIDING HIGH, though there is also confusion and a twinge of fear. Benedict had caught him and Alfred tonight. After they had finished the task they set out to do (oh, how romantic a sentiment, Henry), he had gotten himself drunk. On wine, on ale, on anything he could get his hands on. The Bridgerton had left, or at least that is was Henry tells himself when he finds himself in the studio. He's lying on the cloth on the ground, staring up at the ceiling with a glass of something next to him. There are still people here, but he pays them no mind. Even Alfred has gone; perhaps the man did not care as deeply as Granville in terms of ruining a friendship that is slowly becoming dear to him.
He blinks a few times when he hears Connor's voice. Ah, Doctor Morrison, another friend that he had not expected to make so easily. Henry's dark eyes glance over to the other man, and he feels himself floating, spinning. . . perhaps he will be sick. He considers sitting up and stops himself, instead remaining there in the dim candlelight of the room. He is in his shirt and trousers and nothing else -- no shoes, no waistcoat, and his suspenders had long since been discarded. Henry feels at home here like this, where things aren't as scary.
God, he hadn't felt this way since his youth. Had he already scared Bridgerton away? He recalls Lucy saying something, but it as though he has been underwater for the past few hours. "Mm," he hums in recognition, closing his eyes. He considers his words before reaching to press the glass to his face, as if it will give him some coolness. . . some solace. "How can I help you, dear Connor?" He answers finally and forces himself up onto his elbows this time. He knocks back the rest of the drink before turning to face his company completely. Some charcoal from the cloth has smudged on his face, but he pays no mind to it. "Did you have a good night? Was it to your enjoyment?" To be quite honest, he is not sure what is on the doctor's mind.

.:Physical Appearance:. Henry is thin but toned; he keeps active. He has brown hair and brown eyes. He wears his hair with curls usually, but sometimes he tames it to be straighter. | ~ • ~ | Personality | ~ • ~ |
.:Personality:. To most of the Ton, Henry is a mysterious creature -- but ever polite and cordial. He holds himself with a level of restraint, acting like the perfect gentleman. He can also be sassy with those he feels comfortable with. Henry becomes almost a different person in the comfort of his own home, carefree and open. He believes in the finer things in life and most importantly art, and he enjoys throwing parties in his home and studio where everyone can be themselves. No one needs to hide around him. He accepts everyone for who they are and encourages them to release the shackles of society (at least, in private). As he says - second sons have all the fun without the responsibility of being a lord. Henry is also incredibly warm and comforting, a soothing presence and a good friend. Henry is open about his sexuality in private, and he and his wife Lucy have a very strong partnership (they are close friends) in order to keep the illusion of a happy marriage. .:Skills:. Painting, Sketching, Charcoal, Drawing - he dabbles in other forms of art, but oil painting is his primary form. He can also sing and play piano. .:Weaknesses:. Henry feels too deeply and perhaps can be too forward and curt. He has a bleeding heart and can be an incorrigible flirt. He may potentially have wandering eyes, especially for a certain person. . . He also can be secretive and closed off when he has to be to protect himself. He also enjoys overindulging in alcohol and opium. Henry also has a strained relationship with his older brother and younger sister. He prefers people to be their honest selves and hates the ruse that everyone plays in the Ton.

.:Birthplace:. Sheffield, England .:Family:. Father: Lord Hadley Granville (deceased), Mother: Dowager Countess Ophelia Granville (estranged), Brother: Lord Hugh Granville (estranged), Sister: Marchioness Helen Hamilton (estranged), various nieces & nephews .:Occupation:. Royal Painter .:History:. Henry Granville was born as the second son to Lord Hadley Granville, Earl of Sheffield, and his wife Ophelia. In his youth, Henry knew he was different; instead of being interested in politics like his older brother Hugh, he had always been interested in art. He would stare for hours at paintings in the family home in the countryside, admiring the brush strokes, and would find himself drawing or coloring instead of his homework from his governess. His father was not the kindest man and ruled with an iron fist, trying to dissuade Henry from the arts. Alas, Henry would not give up on his passion, and when Ophelia took interest in Henry’s paintings, he was enrolled in the Royal Academy of Art. He would never say he had the happiest of childhoods, but painting gave him an outlet to unleash his pain, his anger, his sorrow. He was a prodigy, impressing his instructors with his young age and his command with a brush. He was one of the youngest students to start having his art displayed in public galleries. His father begrudgingly supported him, but it slowly grew to pride when members of the Ton took interest in his son’s work. They still always had a strained relationship.
Especially because Henry knew he was gay at a relatively young age. Henry was never interested in women, not in the same boyish way his friends did. And as he grew older, he found himself not wanting to have a wife; he had no attraction to the opposite sex. However, he started finding his fellow male students at the Academy to be enticing. He started a brief relationship with his friend Ignacio who had come from Italy. It was his doorway into that world -- of beauty, of art, of life. He became freer away from his family, partaking in artists parties and being acquainted to sex and debauchery in all forms. It freed him from that oppressive nature of his father, of the Ton and all of their rules. That was the life Henry was drawn to, and he threw himself into it head first.
But reality came crashing back down on him when his brother found out. It was decided that he needed a wife before scandal hit. His father knew as well, and they tried to arrange a marriage for Henry to quickly integrate back into high society. Henry had other ideas, trying to sneak off with the other bachelors with wandering eyes at the parties. However, Lucy Eden also had wandering eyes. She approached him for a dance when they were both in their mid twenties; she had become a spinster in the eyes of her mother, and Lady Eden was eager to pawn her off to a gentleman, any gentleman. Lucy had seen Henry and his disinterest with the others, and instead of enticing him with her body, she enticed him with her mind. They quickly became friends; their personalities were well-suited with each other, and he told her his truth. Which, in turn, had them create a fortuitous relationship: Henry would have a wife of high status, and Lucy would have the freedom to do whatever she liked with the security of a husband. They both were artists at heart, caring more about the bohemian lifestyle than the Ton ballrooms. So they set out to be one of the more well-known underground hideaways.
Henry’s talent as a painter finally caught the eye of the king and queen, and he had his first commission of a portrait of Charlotte from King George (when he was of more sound mind). Charlotte was so pleased by it that she made him the court painter, always commissioning him for paintings of her whims. (Usually portraits of her dogs, which Henry is fine with painting.) He has a very good reputation in the Ton for his talents and is usually commissioned by the high aristocracy for portraits, landscapes, and more.
