What made her kind? Emmeline smiled at his question, even though she wanted to snap at him. Kindness made men's lips loose. After the injustice of what was done to her brother, she wanted to prove the runners had abused their power. Spending this time with him would give her an up close and direct look at his tactics. Such as yet he had not shown such abuse but she knew--knew--if he was so good there had to be something there. Something besides his dark 'charm'. It was almost amusing to be the eager kindness, to his grumpy.
She knew she should not be this amused, or enjoy spending time with any of the runners the way she enjoyed spending these moments with him--however, there was something about the way he did not react to her pushy kindness the way the others were eating out of her hand. They saw her feeding them and flirted back--he saw it and just stared at her. That look he gave was powerful, and she almost pulled back sometimes from it. Not in fear, but if felt as if he knew she was up to something.
"Desire something? Is is required to want something in order to share food on a long journey?" She asked, avoiding the other words he spoke. She had some familiarity. A brother she loved and cared for. However he was also correct in assuming that she wanted something. It felt uneasy that he was so close to the truth. "Shall we trade? I shall share my food and in return you shall give me company?" On the trip she wasn't even supposed to be on.

He wanted nothing from her? Emmeline was sheltered, but she knew that was not true. Or at least, she assumed that wasn't true. "Nonsense, I packed plenty." She told him, turning toward the basket, and pulling out a bread and meat sandwich that she'd wrapped in cloth to help keep it together. She turned and held it out to him with one hand.
With her other she pulled a flask out of the basket. "I also packed you a drink." She had a pleased smile on her lips because she knew the flask meant brandy or something to men, but she had none of that at her home. Instead she had water and lemonade. Deciding water was too plain, warm lemonade it was! Though her container was full of water. Warm lemonade was not pleasing. Though she was smart enough to have a extra container of water in the basket.

He froze when he saw her, and for a moment Emmeline almost feared he would shut the door and send the carriage to her home. However he did not, and instead climbed in and stared her down while tossing his hat to the side. She should NOT enjoy the sight of him doing it, but it left her feeling a little smug.
She enjoyed this, and that was dangerous. Still, as long as she kept her wits above her, she could still keep on her mission.
Emmeline crossed her legs to get comfortable as he ordered the driver to drive. It would be a long ride, and she knew it was pointless to be formal all the way. "Mr. Hunt, have you broke your fast yet? I have packed some bread, meat, and cheese for the journey." One thing Emmeline had learned (slowly) was that the nicer she was to him, he still was that same grumpy, but it became almost fun. As if he was begrudgingly trying not to throttle her.

For a woman how had began this folly as a way to bring down the villian, she was now rushing toward his front door with her heart beating so hard she feared she'd be ill. She had been looking for ways to prove he was ruthless, and was not the pristine hero others thought them to be--and she had ended up coming to know the man and . . . and even come to see that not everything in the world was as simple as she had once thought.
Pushing past the door to his flat, she followed some of the runners to the bed room. Emmeline did not have a moment to think about being in a man's bed room for the first time. Walking quickly into the room, her eyes found him on the bed, and her hand moved to rest on her belly were the fear had turned to lead, while her feet slowed and she stepped to the side trying to find her balance.
Pausing to catch her breath, she knew there was no real reason for her to be here--other then she had to be here. Yet she had heard 'fallen from a roof' and 'too injured to walk' and had taken off running toward his flat. Even now, she wanted to walk over to him and make sure he was whole.
The saw bones was asking if anyone else lived here and was able to make sure he could stay awake. "I will make sure he does not sleep!" Her words rushed out. A few other runners snickered, and she wondered why that was funny? Looking at them and then Mr. Hunt, and the doctor.
Still breathless from running she continued, "I work for Sir Throne, and with Mr. Hunt. I will make sure he follows whatever orders you have for him." Though it might kill them both.

She had seen events such as these before, but never got to attend as a guest. However, as her connection to the bow street runners, and her distant noble relation became apparent, she was invited. She assumed it was something about even numbers--however she wasn't complementary sure. Still, it was nice to visit the estate.
Seeing Mr. Hunt walking toward her, Emmeline smiled and her hands moved from her side to clasped in front of her. Ever since Mr. Hunt had been injured, she had since realized the error of her plan. Or well, come to realize she could not let it bare fruit.
"Mr. Hunt," she greeted, but he grabbed her arm and began pulling her the other way. Surprised she quickened her pace to match his so he would not drag her. She was what?! He unlocked a door and slipped in. With wide eyes, She pushed the door a little more opened and looked around to see if anyone was here. "What are we looking for?!" She asked in a loud whisper, before turning to stick her head out of the door and look both ways, and then back to him.

She was getting close to finding out about his tactics. Something she could take to the press and use to expose the ruthlessness of the runner's less then pristine manner of solving 'crime'. Which was why when a request for a runner to come and solve a attempted murder of a young lord--a request that came from a very wealthy widow known for her lavish life style and frequent men--Emmeline knew she needed to see first hand how he did it.
It did not help that she felt very aware of why the widow was asking for this runner. Over the few months of trying to get close to him, she was having trouble keeping her mission in the foremost of her mind.
However, she knew that if she could catch him doing something that it would help her remember it. When the request came, she offered to come with him. She had no official reason too, but everyone knew he lacked proper mannerisms that she sore she could help with! Plus she knew how noble households worked and help offer insights! None of those were agreeable reasons for him to take her. So when she requested the carriage for him, she made it stop by her apartments first so she could pack a bag and be in it when it arrived to his flat.
It was the wee hours of the morning, and she sat waiting in the darken carriage for him to enter. As he finally did, she smiled over at him as if she was supposed to be here.

Do not step back! DO. NOT. STEP. BACK! He moved closer, and she tilted her face in order to keep making eye contact with him. She'd learned in her time as a house keeper to her aunt that if one stepped back it was a sign of submission or fear. She would admit to nether. Even if she felt the later.
"The acceptation." She countered, keeping her voice calmer then she felt. The acceptation to the only for runners rule. She could see them as she helped dispense them, thus saving Sir Throne time. He liked saving time, and thus was hesitant but willing to give it a try. Emmeline assumed he thought she would be startled and run away--and she might have, had she not been so determined.
While anyone could walk into this part of the office, she had strict orders that the papers would tell the bow runners where they were needed, and they didn't want people knowing what they were investigating. So she wasn't handing them over to him yet.

That arrogant son of--! Emmeline was not about to let his audacity make her anger show. She knew they were brutes and course men who cared nothing for people they were supposed to help. They saw only the coin. Or the fame. They were not good men--they were manipulators.
Reaching for the article he had in his hands she swiftly pulled it from his fingers with a strong tug. Surprise might have been the the only reason she got away with it. "I am not yours to dismiss. I work for Sir Throne--not you." She gathered up all the articles and then, squared her shoulders to look back at him. He was closer now, and taller, but she knew to do this she could not be spinless.
"The daily crime reports are for runners only." He had made fun of the way she asked him if he was a runner, "I was asking if you were a runner. You did not answer me." On purpose.

Looking up quickly from the villain's name,s he came face to face with a man. Emmeline was quit for a moment from the surprise of being spoken to so coursely, but she knew she'd better get used to it. A woman in a man's field better get used too. "I work here," she offered with a dry tone, refusing to raise to the bait. Nor did she offer to explain to him in what manner she worked here.
In truth, she doubted even Sir Throne knew how to best use her. The fact that she convinced him he needed her to manage things into running more smoothly, and keeping the building clean, was a small act of fate. Currently, she was managing the workers int he building that worked to keep it clean (both the offices, and holding cells, and sort term lodging), as well as making sure the small kitchen and medical area were stocked. She was also now (with out asking) handing out the reports to the bow street runners. She was quickly making her self invaluable and getting closer to her goal.
"I should assume you are a runner?" She asked, eyes taking in his form and then quickly back to his face. Alright, he wasn't as brutish formed as his tone. Still, runners were all brutes.

In the grand scheme of things, planning the down fall of a respectable organization took care, and planning. Emmeline had none of this, but she did have determination. And perhaps that was worth more then having a plan. It would of course not replace care, but she had lost everything when her brother died. To hell with care.
It was on a rainy morning, before the sun was fully even up, that the plan began to take shape. On her third day working for Sir Throne, the magistrate over the bow street runners, that she finally met the man whom she needed to learn the most about. Though she wouldn't know it at first.
She had the local papers that covered the crimes for the bow street runners, and one of them belong to Mr. Huntington. One of them belong to the man who had arrested her brother, and thus had killed him--a child. Reaching down she looked over the name of the man she never met before. He might not know it yet, but he was about to meet his downfall. Ezra Huntington
