---She laughed. He supposed it was a welcome alternative to . . . well, screaming and running away. Especially since her laughter did not seem to be one of mockery or judgement. Nor did she criticize his ramblings or find offense in them. It allowed him to relax in that potentially damaging topic as he readied himself to move on from it. Which Elizabeth provided an opportunity for. "I will not say a word," he promised with a smile. Had she been another, she could have easily ran off and told her family of the inappropriate man in the woods. Her father would have eventually told his and it would be just one more lecture, one more reason for criticism and one more judgement as to why he was not a good son. Or in this case, a proper gentleman.
---So yes. The very least he could do was silence his lips so to protect her position in society and avoid any scandal on both their parts. "I enjoy the tranquility," he told her in answer. Ah yes now came that conflicting situation of whether to reveal his writing. While he wrote under an alias he was not terribly opposed to discussing his work. "It inspires me," he added on, not fully realizing that he'd had half the conversation in his own head. Or maybe he had realized it and it was his way of settling the internal dispute. "And what about yourself?" He inquired in return.
---He refrained from bringing up her lack of a chaperone again . . . not wanting to fall down that path of conversation again. "What brings you out in the middle of the woods?" Clearly, riding but the reason for it? Perhaps too personal. Perhaps too inquisitive of him. Perhaps -- "You have a tear in your cape." And finally, he had blurted it out. For it was disturbing him greatly and he was unable to hold himself back any longer; forced to address it . . . as if there was an itch in his very brain that he could not scratch. NOTES: none!

---Jeremy gave a small nod when she said that she was alright. He really hadn't thought through what would have happened if she was not. It wasn't as if he was a doctor. Would he have rode with her? That would certainly be a problematic sight to behold. Fortunately, her words grounded him back into the reality of the situation which was that she was unharmed. "A relief then, that it was not a more serious accident." And that she had her horse well under control. She remembered his name and Jeremy had to think back to consider whether he had done anything particularly memorable upon their first meeting.
---He doubted it. And if he had, she surely would not be speaking with him so . . . amicably. "Lady Elizabeth," he greeted in return, the name quite naturally falling from his lips without having realized he'd committed it to memory for some reason. "Is it?" He suddenly asked when she said that it was nice to see him. Recognizing -- albeit belatedly -- how that could have sounded, he attempted to further explain himself. "I mean only that you are alone without a chaperone." He paused now realizing he may sound inappropriate. "Not that I would pose as any threat when you are alone in the woods." Very inappropriate indeed. And yet, he was trying not to solely focus on the tear in her cape that was really starting to bother him. "Or, at any other place or time." Do not look at the tear . . . do not look at the tear!
---He took a slow breath, letting out a small sound of annoyance at himself as he tried to collect his thoughts and hope they came out in a way that did not make him sound like some sort of predator. "I merely mean to say that I do hope my presence does not cause you any discomfort." Yes! That was what he had been trying to say all along! Though if it had not caused her discomfort initially then perhaps it did now after all that he said. His mind played over the words in attempt to determine where there was any possible way they could be misconstrued. ". . . and that it is nice to see you too." Which, it was but perhaps he should have just said that instead of his rambling which would surely traumatize her more than falling off her horse. NOTES: none!

---How Jeremy absolutely loved being in the country side during off season. The solitude and quiet peace allowed him to work on his writing without constant interruptions or a tedious event to attend. He knew that it was only short term but he would take whatever mere second he could get. Today, he ventured from his small cabin in the wood and found a nice little area by the lake. But he was not alone. He had Bubby with him. A . . .one eyed Bubby which was why Jeremy had brought a needle and thread.
---Bubby was his niece's favourite toy and because of how much she loved it, her mother had tossed it in the garbage. Jeremy however rescued it and planned to fix it up to surprise her with whenever he saw her next. He just could not understand how she had named this thing. It was a bunny . . . named Bubby. Perhaps a mix up in letters? Jeremy supposed he should never question the mind of a child. Imagination was a glorious thing.
---Once he got the eye sewn back on, he set Bubby upon a small rock next to him as he pulled out his paper and a quill. Looking between the stuffed rabbit and his paper, he leaned forward and turned Bubby around. "I cannot write while someone is looking at me," he said quietly, as if he need explain himself to an inanimate object. About to touch his quill to the paper a sudden sound ripped through the otherwise vacant area. And it did not sound far off either. Jeremy set down his items and quietly -- and cautiously -- followed the sound, keeping himself concealed so that he could asses the situation.
---Hiding behind a trunk in a slightly elevated space he saw a young woman brushing herself off. It was a woman he had met before which . . . was reason to either walk away or approach her. The latter because well, any decent person would surely check to see if she was alright. The former because . . . he really could not think of a reason why he shouldn't help her. But he remained hidden, watchful. Waiting to see if she had an entourage of concerned chaperones that would hurry to her side and fuss over her well being. That was reason enough for him to not go as she surely would not need another person present.
---But. . . no one came. And so good conscience won the internal battle and he finally revealed himself and carefully went down the small hill to her aid. "Are you alright?" He asked, as he made his way to position himself across from her. The last time -- and first time -- they had met was at a ball and he knew that his appearance was quite different now. Untamed hair and casual textured attire. Still. His appalling -- as his mother would call it -- appearance was not a deterrent when it came to approaching her for assistance. "That seems to have been quite the fall," he added, his eyes falling to her cape where there was a tear in it. NOTES:: first Jeremy post! Woo!

| ~ • ~ | Character Basics | ~ • ~ |
.:Name:. Jeremy Colborne .:Nick Name:. Remy [only by his family and he hates it], Elias Knight [his alias] .:Rank:. Nobility: heir and future Earl of Westmoreland .:Age:. 27 in season 1
| ~ • ~ | Appearance | ~ • ~ |
.:Physical Appearance:. Jeremy stands tall at six feet with a medium to lean build. He has brown wavy hair that is often reflective of what state he is in; either it is styled upward, or he just lets it fall loosely and it remains untamed. His style of dress usually involves that of different textures with dark colors, a cravat around his neck and sometimes layers on top such as a vest or coat. He has extremes in his appearance. One is where he is well put together, color upon his complexion, and his overall demeanour in a state of supposed calm. His other state however is the exact opposite where he will be disheveled, almost frantic, and has a paleness to his face and redness under his eyes. .:Height:. 6" .:Portrayed by:. Sebastian Stan
| ~ • ~ | Personality | ~ • ~ |
.:Personality:. Jeremy has a rather eccentric personality. Despite his parent's efforts to groom him into the perfect gentleman and future Earl, his mannerisms are quite different from what is deemed as the perfect man. He struggles to verbally express his thoughts and feelings and sometimes even to carry basic conversation with multiple people. Where in his writing he is eloquent and impressive, vocally he can be the opposite. He finds large crowds to be challenging and it causes him a great deal of stress when thrust into them as he also struggles to multiitask and keep up with different conversations. It causes potential rambling as he struggles to get out of his own head which can be occasionally revealed through these ramblings.
Along these similar lines, he sometimes lacks basic social etiquette, a little too honest at times and where he struggles to verbally express himself, his face often says it for him finding it difficult to withhold such reactions with an eyeroll here and an exasperated sigh there. He can be quite animated and dramatic, displaying in histrionics at times. He sometimes over analyzing a situation and can have a very catastrophic and black and white way of thinking.
As a writer he has bouts of writer's block which effects his entire demeanour and mind set. He can become a recluse at these times and engage in a rather manic state. Disorganized, flustered, self deprecating, and disheveled. When in such a state, he often does not sleep for a few nights and struggles with the basics of daily routine and self care. He is often left best alone at this time as he eventually re-enters society, despite his preference to be in a quiet, secluded space. His passion is his writing and he can lose all sense of reality when fully engaging in his literary works.
Despite all these . . . perceived shortcomings, Jeremy remains devoted to those he cares for. He does not have a lot of friends but those whom he considers such, he holds dear to his heart. There are very few with whom he can be himself with; fully comfortable, unguarded and able to articulate himself around . . . somewhat. He is generous at heart and has a caring nature, often more so reflected in actions rather than words.
Where he was and is often emasculated by his father, Jeremy struggles with accepting and living by certain societal gender roles. He sees within his sisters what the perfect lady is meant to look like and while he knows he deviates from being what a gentleman -- and nobleman -- should be, he feels trapped within himself to change it. He has taken on habits not typical of a man in his role or position, such basic sewing (i.e mending his clothing when torn), or the inability to properly court a woman. [note: I imagine that the above conditions could be comparable to anxiety -- including social anxiety -- and tendencies that may suggest border line depression] .:Skills:. extremely talented writer, successful author, sewing -- which he secretly learned from a maid in his household, perfectionist [which can also be seen as a weakness] and very task oriented [both of which is to an obsessive level] .:Weaknesses:. over analyzes certain situations, difficulty in multitasking [i.e. dancing and having a conversation at the same time], struggles to effectively express his thoughts and feelings -- particularly when in large crowds --, does not deal with stress well, can be overdramatic

.:Birthplace:. England .:Family:. - Arthur [father]
- Judith [mother]
- Selina [sister]
- Marianne [sister]
- Arabella [niece]
- Evan [nephew]
- Samuel [nephew]
- Christopher [brother in law]
.:Occupation:. Author, Poet, Heir .:History:. Jeremy was born as the heir and sole son of the Earl of Westmoreland. His parents were both very much concerned with how society perceived them, and the reputation of their family. Therefore, Jeremy was groomed since birth to be what they both hoped would be the perfect son, gentleman and future Earl. Unfortunately, such was not the case. Unsure whether it was unknown social factors or a predetermined mindset, Jeremy did not conform to the 'typical' and generic gentleman that their parents hoped and longed for. He was a rather emotional child and with a father who was an extremely strict disciplinarian with a firm belief in gender biases, Jeremy was taught never to cry nor show emotion. That it was a weakness in men. Jeremy therefore suppressed his feelings, though in doing so, it effected his internal state; both his emotional and mental wellbeing. He was taught the basics: horse riding, dancing, academics . . . but Jeremy found his true passion in writing. He found he was able to express what he was otherwise unable to as it became a form of escapism. As a result, he became a rather proficient and excellent writer.
Over time, his personality was becoming a source of embarrassment to his parents. But as he was the only boy of three children, they could not exactly give up on the heir. Jeremy however, had focus elsewhere. He became a writer, a rather successful one with several published and well received works, using the alias Elias Knight. He initially used this anonymity as a way to protect himself from rejection and criticism but as his success grew, the secretive nature of the man behind this alias began to fade. His parents will never use his success as an author as a source of pride and try to avoid conversations surrounding it. Jeremy however, remains well immersed in it despite the challenges and stresses that accompany it.
His sister Selina, 2 years Jeremy's senior, married in her first season. In all the ways that Jeremy was not the perfect son, Selina was the perfect daughter. Prim, proper, well mannered, charming and everything expected of a young woman in high society. With her marriage, also came the perfect son that Arthur and Judith believed they never had: Christopher. Just as Selina was the perfect lady, he was the perfect gentleman . . . and all the things that Jeremy was not. Arthur doted on him, and he was a welcome addition to the family. He also provided a form of escape from Arthur's looming fears of Jeremy being the one to take over his earldom.
He therefore gave Jeremy an ultimatum: to either marry and settle in the life proper of an heir . . . or he would be disowned and all would be given to Christopher. A rather unconventional course of action which is why Arthur has perhaps never carried out the threat -- as well as how it could make the Colborne's look in the eyes of the ton -- but constantly posing it as a threat has left Jeremy feeling the intense pressure associated with it. For Jeremy, is uncertain what he wants from life. Whether it is a life of solitude or companionship. And his inability to determine what grants him fulfillment, continues to hinder his social progress.
Currently, Jeremy prefers residing in a small country home where he can write and be away from his family's scrutiny. However, when the season comes, he does go to the city spending partial time in his own residence, and the rest of the time in his father's estate. The only saving grace is his niece Arabella -- daughter of Selina -- with whom he has a close relationship with. Jeremy continues to work on his writing whilst attending societal functions where physically able and the less well known functions in which he feels he has a better sense of belonging in.
