The prospect of attending a ball should've filled her with excitement, and it had before she'd actually arrived at the venue. It had all started going downhill from there, firstly her step-mother had been quick to pass her off to the first man brave enough to request a dance and then Emily had stepped on his toes no less than three times. Apparently in all of the excitement of the day, she'd conveniently forgotten that she did not excel on the dance floor. She felt certain that would be the last time she'd see that particular Gentleman, but that was no great loss, considering that he had not been at all on her radar before that moment anyway.
The lingering embarrassment was what truly concerned her, because of all the areas that she might struggle in dancing was perhaps the least desirable. That was how she now found herself sticking to the edge of the dance floor, idly trying to tune out her step-mother's attempts at conversation whilst still appearing to be engaged. That was a true talent, who needed to know how to dance anyway? If she was to meet her soulmate, she wanted them to be impressed with her delightful personality, not by her ability to dance without breaking anyone's toes.
Rolling her eyes at Helen's attempt to point out another young Gentleman in the crowd, Emily turned away in the hopes that this would aid in her attempts to tune the woman out. As she turned however, she collided with another young man and the drink that he'd been holding, was knocked from his hand and she grimaced at finding its contents saturating her shoes. Pursing her lips, she began counting to ten in her head- the way she had been told to as a child, should she ever be at risk of losing her temper.
Then as if things couldn't get any worse, the man thought the next reasonable step would be to to drop to his knees and begin to clean up her shoes himself. "For goodness sake, get up" she hissed, aware of the unwanted attention this spectacle was sure to attract. "It's okay, honestly..." she tapped him on the shoulder, in hopes that might prompt him to get to his feet. Obviously this was mortifying for the both of them, for seemingly different reasons- at least she would now have an excuse to leave the ball before her step-mother forced her to dance with anybody else.
"Please Sir, don't trouble yourself" she said, attempting to regain her composure in such a public setting "It's about time I bought some new shoes, anyway" wasn't the idea of wearing the same outfit twice a form of self-sabotage in the most notable social circles? Hopefully that would convince him to get to his feet and spare the both of them from further embarrassment.

It was a beautiful day for a walk. That was what she said when questioned of where she was going that morning, a walk in the park and some fresh air would do her good. Too long she had been stuck in that house, it would do nothing but leave her stunted and unable to flourish if she was forced to remain there, unable to see the sun. Dramatic. But that would come as no surprise to those who knew her, and it certainly helped to convince her father to allow her some freedom, however fleeting.
"Oh!" she had not been out long when she found herself being accosted by a rather unlikely assailant. He was rather short compared to the gentlemen usually attempting to capture her attention, but she found him to be far more charming. "And where did you come from, sir?" she said, stooping to pet the small goat on his head. It wasn't every day that you saw barnyard animals running around the streets of London but it was the most welcome surprise.
Emily had always yearned for a pet of her own, of course she'd imagined a kitten or a puppy, but goats deserved love too and this kid in particular seemed desperate to garner her affection. Unfortunately, she was not permitted too much time with her new friend before a rather frustrated looking Gentleman approached and he didn't look too pleased by the little goats actions.
"Please sir, there's no need" she spoke of his apology, no real harm had been done and she had quite enjoyed this surprise encounter. Though she would likely be due an interrogation in regards to the state of her dress upon returning home. "I do hope he's not in any trouble, I did quite enjoy his company" she reached to stroke the goats ears, smiling at how pleased with himself the animal appeared to be- even if his quest for adventure was short lived.

| ~ • ~ | Character Basics | ~ • ~ |
.:Name:. Emily Davenport .:Nick Name:. Em .:Rank:. Nobility .:Age:. 18 (Birthday: April 15th 1795)
| ~ • ~ | Appearance | ~ • ~ |
.:Physical Appearance:. Emily is above average height for a woman, standing at 5'8". She has medium brown hair and brown eyes, and she has a rather slender build. She is often seen wearing an assortment of dresses and frocks that is common in women of nobility, but prefers more relaxed attire when at home in the company of family. .:Height:. 5'8" .:Portrayed by:. Hailee Steinfeld
| ~ • ~ | Personality | ~ • ~ |
.:Personality:. Being the fourth child in a rather large brood, Emily was allowed to indulge in childish fantasies for longer than is typically permitted. Because of this, she still views the world with rose coloured glasses and does not realize the weight of responsibility that should soon be on her shoulders to find a good match. She is rather naïve, believing that she will find her true love and embark on a perfect love story that she is sure that her parents had, obviously life doesn't always work out that way but try telling her that.
Emily, like her siblings is rather headstrong, she knows what she wants and doesn't like it when others try to give her direction. She wants to do things her own way, and if she fails in her task then at least that failure will be her own and the fault of no one else. Emily has always gone about life with her head in the clouds, day dreaming to pass the time away, this gives the impression that she does not listen, but she maintains that it is not her fault that her mind can better keep her attention than those conversationalists around her.
Emily can appear to be rather clumsy, often being referred to as having two left feet. She knows where she wants to go and how to get there, but it's the execution that is the problem and her habit of not looking where she is going before attempting to get there. She can be rather witty and sharp when it is required of her, but this side of her is reserved for more friendly company as she was informed that it comes across as being quite rude. .:Skills:. Creativity, the ability to play the piano somewhat decently, horseback riding. .:Weaknesses:. Naive, clumsy, wants to do things her way or not at all, cute animals (they need to be pet!!)
| ~ • ~ | History | ~ • ~ |
.:Birthplace:. London, England .:Family:. Charles Davenport (father, alive), Margaret Davenport (mother, deceased), Alexander Davenport (brother, alive), William Davenport (brother, alive), Elizabeth Davenport (sister, alive), Thomas Davenport (brother, alive), Helen Davenport (step-mother, alive), Hannah Davenport (half-sister, alive). .:Occupation:. None. .:History:. Emily was always a bit of a dreamer whilst she was growing up, her head always seeming to be stuck in the clouds and not on her shoulders where it ought to have been. That's what happens when a child is left to entertain themselves too often, they begin to think for themselves and their creativity runs away from them. There was never any shortage of love in young Emily's life, she was the fourth born child of Charles and Margaret Davenport and she'd clearly been blessed to lead a life of privilege. However, her siblings would often outpace her in their daily shenanigans due to their difference in age and she was often left to play alone whilst they rough-housed outside.
Being the fourth born child of a Marquess, Emily knew very little of the pressures and responsibilities that her elder siblings had to spend time worrying over. She was not her father's heir, nor his first born daughter. She had the freedom to do as she pleased and was rarely corrected about her behaviour, especially while she was still a child. Emily decided that she had all the time in the world to learn how to be a 'proper lady' and as her sister Elizabeth would be first in line to make an impression when she came of age, she should not waste her time worrying about how she should conduct herself.
Things changed when she was a mere thirteen years old. When her mother became gravely ill with bronchitis and before Emily even had the chance to process the seriousness of her condition, she died. This marked a turning point in Emily's life, because she finally began to take her lessons seriously- it was what her mother would've wanted after all. It had been all she'd asked of her on those long days when she refused to partake in those arduous tasks and instead opted to let her mind wander as she stared out of the window.
So much time wasted. Now she was faced with embarking on the most treacherous of journeys, without the guidance of her mother. She had questions, many questions that only a mother might answer and that she couldn't possibly pose to her father- not that he was in any condition to offer an answer anyway. Margaret's death seemed to shatter his whole world, that was what losing a soulmate did to a person.
Her father eventually remarried, and he and his new wife had a daughter together. Emily figured Helen was a nice enough woman, but she could not bring herself to care for her as she did the rest of her family. Her father deserved to be happy, but how could he ever be truly happy with a woman who was not Margaret? Their love was unrivalled.
Love. It was on that strong foundation that her parents built their family. When her time came to marry, she would do so for love and settle for nothing less. Now she is due to enter her first season and she is faced with so much excitement and anxiety that she hardly knows what to do with it all. She knows exactly what she wants, but whether or not she finds what she's looking for is a different matter entirely.
