this sceptred isle this earth of majesty, this seat of mars, this other eden The Duke wasn't expecting his younger brother that evening. Having arrived from Wellington earlier that day, he only expected to meet with his mother and sisters. Those days, it seemed as if the black sheep of the family had some motive behind his random appearances, rather than him genuinely wanting to be in the presence of his family unit.
William's ceruleans were locked with eyes that only mirrored, only in resemblance and not expression, for at least a few seconds before he acknowledged the man, "You never fail to astonish me after twenty-eight years, brother," The formality of their relationship had been solidified when William took on his duty as Duke. "Though please do not feel uninvited," He lightly gestured toward one of the seats, attempting to disregard the informality of Reuben's entrance. William then uttered under his breath as he continued to fix the table linen intertwined with his shirt, "For you are still a Slade, after all." As we all as the complete opposite of Will and what he stood for (his vices subtracted from that statement, of course).
"Has my darling niece accompanied you?"

this sceptred isle this earth of majesty, this seat of mars, this other eden Seated at the front of the grandiose dining table in the Mayfair house, William silently removed the napkin from his plate and tucket it behind the collar of his white shirt. The eldest peered over toward the grandfather clock that decorated the room with its dark shade of wood, giving it a sense of antique in contrast to the palish walls and interior decoration. His mother's choice, he believed, as it had been modified and added it to ever since he was a young child.
The clock chimed, indicating that it was seven o'clock. He'd been awake much earlier than that, having been used to his duties as Duke of Wellington for a while now. His biological clock happened to adapt to that particular duty. It certainly wasn't an easy path to tread upon. There were duties, duties that his brother may never understand. The door opened, and his mother announced her presence, taking a seat beside him.
"Will you be staying in Mayfair for the season, William?" She inquired, taking a sip from the tea that one of the house servants had already poured for her.
"For the first ball, I believe, and then I'll be riding back to Wellington. It'll be an occasional occurrence," William knew very well what she meant by her words. He was to find a wife this season, and hopefully, manage to settle and perhaps finally issue an heir. Time would tell. "Pray tell -- where are my siste-" His words had been cut off by the door.

| ~ • ~ | Character Basics | ~ • ~ |
.:Name:. William Slade .:Nick Name:. Will .:Rank:. Duke of Wellington .:Age:. 31
| ~ • ~ | Appearance | ~ • ~ |
.:Physical Appearance:. Standing tall at six foot three, William has a light-brown waves that are normally tidied right before he leaves his residence. He can never leave, carrying the knowledge that there is quite literally a hair out of place. His clothes, on the other hand, don't matter as much as his hair to him. He usually dons a waistcoat that's tailored to fit his relatively built frame. A majority of them are neutral coloured, either pale blue or a similar pastel colour, accompanied by his customary white shirt, cravat, and tailcoat. Most of the time, William also carries a gold pocket watch.
.:Height:. 6"3
.:Portrayed by:. James Norton
| ~ • ~ | Personality | ~ • ~ |
.:Personality:. Cantankerous, traditional, and proud. Those are three fitting words to describe the Duke. The eldest of three Slade children, he'd always been brought up as the key heir. This therefore resulted in giving him a sense of importance -- as if he were better than his siblings. Having been taught to be the perfect son ever since his birth, he'd sensed true pressure, leading him to become agitated at most actions, specifically by his brother. William values his position in society and regards it with seriousness, so if anyone were to attempt to destroy it, he'd find a way to put a stop to it (minus Lady Whistledown, of course).
.:Skills:. William is charismatic, acquiring this skill at an earlier age when he’d play amongst the children of the aristocrats that his parents acquainted themselves with. This helps him in his current state as Duke, forming connections amongst his peers and others to strengthen their relationships. Since he’d been groomed as the heir to the dukedom, he became a natural leader, knowing that he would have to take the reins if his father were to eventually pass.
.:Weaknesses:. The eldest Slade brother is impatient. Easily riled, he will show no mercy if a task that should have taken seconds took hours. He also tends to blunt, particularly to his siblings and fellow noblemen. To add to his blunt attitude, William can be bossy on occasion, believing that he has the God given right to tell people what to do, particularly his younger siblings (for their “protection”). This connects to his stubbornness -- he doesn’t take criticism regarding his actions too well. He also has an addictive personality, whether it be toward a courtesan or his drinking habit.
| ~ • ~ | History | ~ • ~ |
.:Birthplace:. England
.:Family:. William is the eldest Slade son. He has a black sheep brother, his niece via him, two younger sisters and his widowed mother.
.:Occupation:. Duke of Wellington
.:History:.
Firstborn son to the Slade dynasty, his birth was from a quiet one. His mother’s screeches and cries could be heard from the lower floor of their lavish home as she gave delivered William. Since he’d started walking and fourteen months, the concept that he’d one day be stationed in his father’s position had been in instilled in his toddler mind. He was to become the Duke of Wellington, an important title in their tight-knit, English society. Governesses and tutors that were employed by his family showed him the ways of his title, offering him lessons in different subjects, as well as strengthening his competency in different languages.
His brother had come a few years after him, and the so did his younger sisters. Though he felt he could not control his brother due to his black sheep nature, he used his growing power on his sisters. William did not inflict fear on them. He simply tried to protect them against society’s whispers. Since he was a child, he’d always felt it was his duty to do, and knowing that he cannot have this hold over Reuben irks him. Earlier, as they both grew up and shared a common trait of being a man in their civilisation, he’d tried to talk him into appeasing their parents, but it did not work as well as he wished it would.
Albeit his father’s passing having a strong effect on his emotions, William did his best to repress his feelings, believing that true men did so. Upon earning his title, he was ready to take on his title as Duke of Wellington, permanently residing in the Slade manor in Wellington. He oversees the province. However, since he’d become Duke, he hadn’t been committing to the job as well as he should have, noticing that there had been much to be done and very little time. Due to the pressures of being Duke, he’s become easily irritable, whether it be from his siblings or friends. At times, this has led him to dive deep into the world of vices, such as drinking, gambling, and courtesans to bridge the gap between his dukedom and personal life.
Currently, he's searching for a wife. It had taken him some time to marry because he'd been waiting to become Duke, his focus being solely on his duty to his family. His mother pressures him to find one soon as he is nearly reaching his mid thirties. Seasons have gone by and although his eye had been caught several times by ladies, William kept his affections to himself (or his paramours). Time will tell whether his current relationship status will change or not.
