i have sworn TO DO VERY FOOLISH THINGS Oone of the crew stated that they got themselves a noblewoman and Vaughn was less than amused or impressed. And to top things all off, she was the typical noble with a mouth on her that made Vaughn wonder why they had not gagged her with a cloth. "What makes you think you are in charge here?" He both stated and asked, clear mockery in his tone for attempting to make a deal that involved not pressing charges.
"You also cannot press charges if you are dead." With that, he pulled out his pistol, aiming it at the noblewoman as he cocked it. "Get on your knees and give me one good reason why I should not shoot you now." She was going to have to do far better than not pressing charges. And the first part . . . well, that was for his own satisfaction over seeing someone who was so elevated in society, be brought to their knees by a pirate.

TAG: @mariannetalbot i have sworn TO DO VERY FOOLISH THINGS A smile touched Vaugn's lips when a couple of his crewmen presented him a trunk. A very large, very heavy looking trunk. They had apparently been storing it on the ship for half the day and felt it a good time to offer it to him now. "It is something of great value, Captain!" One of them stated excitedly, eager to see their superior pleased with them. Vaughn approached the large item, rubbing his hands together to imagine all the valuable trinkets that could be within it. But, strange that there were holes around the trunk. Would that not put smaller items at risk of falling out? Which meant . . . there were large things within it.
Oh this was getting better and better! A pleased smile still upon him, he hit the lock so that it would open and pushed the cover up. What he saw inside . . . immediately caused his smile to fade as there was a young woman . . . in the trunk. . . "What is this?!" He demanded stepping away from the trunk, uncaring if she got out of it or not. It was not as if there were many places she could run to. "She's a duchess Captain!" Vaughn knew where this was going and . . . hate hated dealing with people. With ransoms, with slaves. There not worth the hassle that he inevitably had to deal with. And now, they had a woman on board.

i have sworn TO DO VERY FOOLISH THINGS Vaughn was eager to get back to sea and did not wish to waste a moment longer. They were well through the night, setting sail for wherever the sea would take them and enjoy the spoils from whomever lay in their path to overtake. Enjoying the feeling far too much to find sleep tonight as he was on the main deck, taking in the scent of the water surrounding them with sheer nothingness around. "Captain!" Vaughn did not turn around when he heard footsteps approaching but stopping at a bit of a distance.
There was a bit of an urgency but more . . . excitement than concern. Nothing that needed--"Captain--" "What?!" He snapped irritably, turning his head to half face them. But what he saw . . . prompted him to fully turn around. There, in between two of his crewmen was a woman. Her hands were bound and there was a bag over her head which was removed once Vaughn had turned around to face them. They pulled the small sac off and tossed it to the side, looking rather pleased with themselves but there was no signs of pleasure on the Captain's face. Quite the opposite in fact. "What the fuck is that?" He bluntly questioned, uncaring if there was a lady in their presence. Her presence, was exactly the problem.

i have sworn TO DO VERY FOOLISH THINGS VERSE: canon or au; it really depends on you since I can make either work for Vaughn.
CHARACTER: sorry for the bias but it would have to be at the very least someone of nobility, male or female works.
DETAILS: basically, Vaughn is setting out to sail and do his piratey thing and a couple of his crewmen take it upon themselves to kidnap someone so that they can hold them for ransom. Little do they realize that Vaughn is totally against this because he hates dealing with people. So the kidnapped person may have to negotiate a little so that Vaughn doesn't get rid of them right there; maybe they offer him a great sum of money once they're returned safely. Vaughn may accept it, but he's not going back to London so quickly.
NOTES: Could be a fun chaos of someone being stuck on board with Vaughn and his crew for weeks on end. Who knows what all could happen during this time! So anyone who would like to subject their muse to this treatment, reply here or PM me! I'm up for doing multiple scenarios similar to this as well because I imagine it would be different considering who the person is.

i have sworn TO DO VERY FOOLISH THINGS Vaughn despised being idle. He missed the chase. The pursuit of other ships. The thrill of a storm. And the victory that came with every effort. Instead of it all . . . he was currently stuck in a loud stuffy bar, with idiotic people, and piss pour drink. Which, he had now had 2 pitchers of. He was in the company of another one of his crewmen, as they just watched the crowd, occasionally exchanging meaningless words. For nothing held meaning here in the city.
He was eager to return to the open sea. To put his actual skills to good use yet here . . . his only skill was his high tolerance for alcohol. The door swung open which would have ordinarily not caused Vaughn to pay any attention but it was clear . . . this man was a nobleman. Bloomsbury was not exactly a place that nobility frequented, unless they wished to be out of the eye of the ton. Vaughn just sneered at him, spitting on the floor even if the man did not see him.
The pirate's gaze continued to follow him, as he approached a young woman. James was not so much paying attention to what he was doing to her . . . perhaps he was making flirtatious remarks. Perhaps he was putting his hands on her when his attention was clearly unwanted by the woman. But it was neither of those things that soon prompted Vaughn to his feet. It was the combination of boredom and his contempt for upper classman. He began to walk up to the duo, standing behind the man for a moment as he appeared to be trying to get closer to the woman.
"Here," he began to say, intruding on the scene. "Allow me to help you." His voice sinister for he had no intention of actually helping the man. With that, Vaughn raised his leg and put his foot on the man's ass, aggressively pushing him forward toward the woman with enough force, that the man missed his target all together. Instead, he stumbled to the side, falling over the table next to them and eventually, landing on the floor. Vaughn stood there with a smirk, rather pleased with the outcome as well as prepared for a good fight should that ensue.

.:Name:. James Vaughn .:Nick Name:. Captain .:Rank:. Other .:Age:. 28
| ~ • ~ | Appearance | ~ • ~ |
.:Physical Appearance:. Vaughn's complexion is indicative of his time spent outdoors, and marred with a visible scar from his various adventures. He has blue eyes, and short brown hair, often left unshaven from his face though surprisingly seems well groomed and trimmed. He has an athletic build. with a body covered in tattoos (on his: chest, stomach, neck, arm, thighs), once meant to be identifiable marks for sailors if found . . . to ones now he keeps concealed in public so not to draw too much attention to himself. He is often clad in dark, neutral and muted tones (blacks, greys, etc) and usually has his hat titled to once side or downward to partially cover his face. .:Height:. 6" .:Portrayed by:. Tom Hardy
| ~ • ~ | Personality | ~ • ~ |
.:Personality:. Vaughn is an enigmatic, no-nonsense individual with an inclination to violence and is physically ruthless. With his goal in mind, he shows no reluctance to resorting to extreme violence when the situation calls for it. He has a severe temper which can be easily triggered, and without pattern so one does not know what might set him off. His anger is displayed both verbally and physically. He has an extremely vulgar tongue, unguarded and uncensored regardless of who he converses with. He speaks his mind, whether it is to express displeasure about something or those rare moments of compliments and praise. He is sarcastic and unapologetic for his actions and words, not a stranger to being apprehended and imprisoned in a holding cell for short periods of time -- his wealth often granting him freedom. He has a strong contempt for the upper class, and prefers to reside in the working class districts rather than a clean and cultured environment wanting to hide his crimes and nefarious intentions, as well as being able to carry out his own machinations1. He has adventure ingrained in his very soul and longs for nothing more than to return to sea. He gets bored rather easily, perhaps contributing to his loose tongue without fear of consequence. He claims that he is afraid of nothing, embracing challenge and danger without a moment's hesitation.
.:Skills:. Expert navigator and has extensive knowledge in sailing and ships, hand to hand combat with brute strength, skilled with various weaponry (i.e firearms, knives, etc), commanding presence when captaining his ship, strong survival skills. incredibly resourceful, extremely high pain tolerance. .:Weaknesses:. Volatile, extreme temper that can be easily triggered and lead to irrational behavior, ill mannered, does not fear death thus contributing to erratic tendencies, does not form emotional attachments easily, believes he can hear the dead communicate with him and has hallucinations -- bringing his sanity into question.
| ~ • ~ | History | ~ • ~ |
.:Birthplace:. England .:Family:. Father (deceased), Mother, Sisters .:Occupation:. Privateer to Pirate .:History:. Vaughn was born into a family who held generations of being incredibly successful privateers, dating back to the Golden Age of Piracy in the 1700s. They were often charged with a Letter of Marque authorizing the seizure of enemy ships, using whatever means necessary. Being given free reign to be as hostile as required, the Vaughn family became well known among others in this field during this time. Seizing enemy ships, especially trade ships, allowed them to acquire goods and the abundance of wealth and profit that came with it. Vaughn followed in his father's footsteps, joining him on adventures when he was a young boy. It would be during one such adventure, when Vaughn was at the age 15, that his father would be killed during one of their charged missions. Vaughn, being groomed for this role, quickly took over as Captain, and continued the success of their family name in this business.
The era of privateers peaked during the Napoleonic Wars and Vaughn's drive intensified, becoming more ruthless and hostile in his approach. While it led to success, he became a feared individual to those who knew they would be soon taken over by him and his crew. These conquests also led to the apprehension of those from enemy ships, selling them for ransom as they became prisoners of war or slaves. Vaughn learned during these times that he had little interest for slave trading or any profit that involved slavery and ransom. He much preferred goods that were not alive. His actions landed him beyond privateering, engaging in piracy as well despite the illegality.
When the war started to draw to an end, privateers began to fade as the government started to turn their back on them. The line between privateering and piracy became blurred, and England soon held extremely strict laws against both, mainly the latter. Vaughn's crew began to dissipate, fearful of the consequences of being caught (which was certain death by hanging), and found other sources of income in attempt to live a less risk driven life. While some in Vaughn's crew remain, it is not enough to man a ship and so he is forced to remain in London until able to find more who share his desire for adventure as well the driving force of greed to motivate it.
Despite his abundance of wealth, he lives in the working class area. His mother and family (due to her remarriage) are among the upper middle class, yet he remains in a fairly small lodging, despite his grander one near his current city of residence. He has a household staff to manage it until he decides to return. He has a strong dislike for the upper class and monarchy, as he blamed them for his descent into piracy, as a pirate was considered a 'common criminal' compared to sanctioned and licensed privateering. Regardless, he can not imagine a life doing anything else, so is determined to get back onto the sea and continue his work . . . legal or not.
