eloise & cressida. Prompt: Eloise comforting a sad Cressida. This was hardly how she'd seen the afternoon going. As a matter of fact, when Eloise had imagined the event she was being dragged along to, Cressida hadn't been involved in it at all. There was almost no escaping the Cowper girl, but she always hoped to try and avoid her regardless. It had seemed bad enough when she realised there was nobody for her to sneak off with: no Penelope, no willing siblings...just her, forced to pretend like she wasn't mentally a million miles away. Pretending was hardly Eloise's forte, however, and when most tried to speak with her, her disinterest and distaste was abundantly clear. She was miserable, and had no qualms ensuring that everyone knew she didn't want to be there.
The appearance of her least favourite person was one that caused her to grimace, for she assumed Cressida had approached to drag her down, make her feel as if she didn't belong. She already felt as if she didn't, and the appearance of the blonde hardly helped. Eloise's mouth opened to make some scathing remark, intending to make her feel bad before she could get the first jibe in...nothing ever came. Eloise could be cold and harsh, there was no doubt about that, but she couldn't bring herself to say a word when Cressida looked on the brink of tears. What was that about?
It would have been easy enough to brush her off, make some jibe regardless, or simply walk away. If the roles were reversed, she was almost certain Cressida wouldn't attempt to comfort her. As it was, however, she couldn't do that. Some silly part of her simply wouldn't allow it. Still, the words came out with a slight hint of frustration, like she'd rather be anywhere but there: "are you quite alright?" @cressidacowper
