Personality
Helena is shy at first, due to growing up speaking French as a first language. Once she opens up, she brings laughter to everyone she meets. She loves spending time with her family and the family’s small staff.
Curious outside of her world, she finds ways to have a good time, without getting in trouble. It’s a perk of not really part of the Ton.
She loves to read books, ranging from her father’s medical books to questionable romance novels.
When she is nervous, she would make some jokes to loosen the tension.

When she is nervous, she would make some jokes to loosen the tension.
Because of the Francophobia she experienced as a child, she loves to fight back against those who bully others. She likes calling it her “French temper.”
Overall, she has a kind heart with a mischievous streak. But don’t make her upset or else her “French temper” comes out.
Skills
Helena loves to sing (not the best singer but can carry a tune), play piano (on a basic level), and dance. When she was young, she wanted to be a professional dancer. However, her mother warns her that a dancer is not appropriate for a lady such as her.
Thanks to her friendships with the staff, she learned how to cook and bake. Cook reminds her that the way to a man’s heart is to his stomach.
Due to her father’s work as a physician, she would occasionally apprentice with a midwife to help deliver farm animals. It was only recently, she observed women delivering babies.
Weaknesses
Her temper can be frightening, even to her. She would get physical by punching and smacking things around.
Because she prefers reading, cooking, and music, needlework is the weakest domestic attribute. She rather tend wounds than stick on fabric.

History
Born to the second son of a Baron who became a physician, and the only daughter of a gentleman, Helena’s life took an unexpected turn before she was born. Her three-half brothers and various family members were murder or executed during the early months of The Reign of Terror. For the family’s safety, her parents and brother traveled to Calais in Northern France to settle there until Helena’s birth. Her parents gave her the names Helene after Helen of Troy, and Jeanne after Joan of Arc (whose feast day was on that day).
Facing the threat of possible execution due to the family’s peerage, the Levesque family left Calais to England when Helena was six months old. On the way to the boat, a crawling Helene scraped her knee with a piece of wood. The scrape caused an infection and made her sick. While she would fully recover, the scrape left her with a small scar.
Once in England, the Levesque family faced new challenges in their new land. No longer considered part of the gentry, the family joined the untitled upper middle class in Marylebone, London. George resumed his career as a physician, gaining and maintaining the family’s reasonable wealth. The anti-French sentiment caused the family to adopt English sounding names, including switching the family name Levesque to its English counterpart, Bishop.
Despite their lodgings and reputation as being “nouveau riche” according to members of the Ton, the Bishop family are a tight knit family who always looked after each other while living in the northern neighborhood of Marylebone.
Her older brother Vincent joined the British Army (blasphemy, their mother would say). Before leaving, he left his Irish pregnant wife Bridget to stay with the family. Her nephew Liam was born while her brother was away.

At the start of the 1813 London season, Helena asked her parents to not let her take part. She made her debut in Bath several months later, making friendships but no romantic connections. She joined the 1814 London season, feeling like an outsider despite her father being the physician to many of the Ton’s prestigious families.
She made a vow to her parents: if she doesn’t marry by 30, she will join the convent. A life as a nun is better than being a spinster.
During that 1814 Season, she met and fell in love with a young Baron, Alexander Dowd. The two married on June 10, 1814 in Marylebone.
