Rather then doing this, she struck out on her own and soon was found for her voice and beauty. She used these to gain jobs and eventually became an opera singer that even the queen herself came to see sing. Her voice filled the halls for the rich and powerful--and she learned then that the men would be willing to share their protection as well as their coins in exchange for her 'time'. All too willing to to make the exchange she soon found herself in a place no mistress should be in--falling for a man she couldn't have. After broken promises she put herself first, and forced herself to move on. It sometimes worked . . .
