.:Physical Appearance:. In general, Lewis is a man of average appearance, with hair that is somewhere between dark blond and pale brown and eyes that are light grey. He doesn't tend to be a very cheerful person; you're more likely to find him with a furrowed brow than with a smile. He takes enough care with his appearance to look presentable, but he doesnβt go much beyond that β youβll never see him in bright colours or the most daring fashions. He prefers practicality over style.
.:Height:. 5β7β
.:Portrayed by:. Luke Norris

.:Personality:. Lewis is far from gifted when it comes to social graces. He is never intentionally rude, but he is serious to a fault, which often causes him to come off as rather cold and distant. He finds large social gatherings incredibly uncomfortable, especially if he doesnβt know many people well, and heβll take any excuse to hang back and stay quiet whenever possible.
When it comes to his work, however, he is incredibly passionate. Given the slightest chance, he will happily launch into a discussion on any aspect of science or medicine. To those who are interested in the subject, this can be quite engaging; to those who arenβt, he can very quickly come on a little too strong. Heβs better now than he was in his younger days, but heβs never quite managed to master the minutiae of social cues, and he doesnβt always pick up on the fact that duchesses and barons at balls donβt always want to hear a lengthy rant on the latest surgical operations. Heβs also incredibly opinionated, and when he has to contend with people who donβt see the world the way he does, he can get quite intense in his arguments.
Overall, Lewis struggles with the expectations of society. He knows that he is looked down upon by many, for his accent, his profession, and his lacking social skills. He tries his hardest to fit in well with the London elite and to make a good name for himself, but itβs an uphill battle that often leaves him exhausted and bitter. He prefers the company of people who wonβt expect him to always play the social game.
.:Skills:. Medical knowledge, operating skills, dedication to study.
.:Weaknesses:. Poor social skills, aggressively opinionated, desperate to prove himself.

.:Birthplace:. Pwllheli, Wales
.:Family:. Brenin Anwyl (father), Gwynne Anwyl (mother), Gethin Anwyl (brother, younger), Dafydd Anwyl (brother, younger), Dwynwen Anwyl (sister, younger)
.:Occupation:. Surgeon and anatomist
.:History:. Lewis grew up in the small town of Pwllheli, Wales β an exclusively Welsh-speaking community at this time, leading Lewis to learn English only in his teenage years. His family, although not high in status, had amassed a decent fortune through shipbuilding, and in the early years of Lewis' adulthood, before his brothers were old enough to assist, he devoted most of his attention to working alongside his father. A life of managing shipbuilders, however, was not at all the life Lewis wanted to lead forever. It was science β medical science, in particular β that called to him the loudest, and when his brothers were old enough to take his place, he announced his intentions to move to London to study surgery.
London life did not exactly prove to be as ideal as Lewis had expected. For one thing, London society in general was not exactly kind to a small town Welshman, and Lewis did not find himself popular amongst his peers. He learned early on, too, that the state of medical education in Britain was, to put it bluntly, a shambles, from the lack of access to dissection to the blatant favouritism of the teachers. Lewis' education, along with that of the rest of his fellow students, suffered. When it finally came time to take the examinations that ought to have established him as a full-fledged surgeon, he failed, due not to a lack of dedication but to a simple lack of necessary education. Mortified by this initial failure, Lewis threw himself back into studying so that he could retake β and pass β the examinations. Over the next few months, he worked himself as hard as possible, and finally, it paid off β finally, he took his place as a member of the Royal College of Surgeons.β¨
Despite the fact that he had achieved his qualifications, however, his trials in the profession were far from over. The London medical community proved to be a veritable nest of vipers, full of backstabbing, nepotism, greed, quackery, and elitism. It was only through considerable skill, good patronage, and a healthy dose of sheer luck that Lewis managed to find himself an appointment as an operating surgeon at Guyβs Hospital. Lewis began to realise that he didn't feel right simply moving on from the issues that had complicated his studies. The need for radical legal reform governing the subjects for dissection was becoming impossible to ignore, as well as the need for a reform of the medical education system in general, and Lewis grew disgusted with the lack of change. As he began his work as a surgeon, he began, too, to push loudly and resolutely for a change to medical education.
