Godmodding
What is Godmodding? This is when one player takes control over another character during the roleplay. It is when you make another character that you do not write for say, do, or think something that the other mun did not have in their post. What are examples of Godmodding?
- EXAMPLE 1: Character 1 writes in their post that their character yelled at Character 2 and that Character 2 started crying and cowering in fear. This is considering godmodding because you wrote how Character 2 reacted without the mun writing it for themselves in a post.
- EXAMPLE 2: Character 1 hit Character 2 in their post and Character 2 was left unconscious because of the impact. This is considered godmodding because despite how strongly you felt your character hit the other, you controlled the reaction of Character 2.
- EXAMPLE 3: Character 1 told Character 2 that they are mad at them and in your post you also wrote Character 2 replied to them by saying "I don't care!" This is godmodding because you directly wrote in your post what the other character said without them actually putting it in a reply.
- EXCEPTIONS: There are of course exceptions for the sake of helping the thread along. For example: sometimes you have to have the other character set up in a certain way in a meme starter, or if your characters are walking somewhere so they can speak in private and you write that they both reached the destination, etc. While these are still technically godmodding, it is always helpful to put a note in your post or quickly check with the member if its ok. And in doing so, keep an open mind that you may have to edit something if it strongly goes against their character's canon!
Is Godmodding allowed on the forum? No! Godmoddingis not permitted on the role play and we have a rule explicitly stating as such. It is fairly universally discouraged and prohibited in the role play world. Consistent godmodding will result in receiving a reminder from staff to ensure it does not keep happening. Why is Godmodding bad?It is considered controlling a character that you do not write for and therefore can be discouraging to the member who writes for them as it may go against their portrayal or have their character react in a way that the member does not agree with. The fun of role playing is that we can write for our selected character, and then see how the other character reacts. Having that element of surprise and fun, not being able to predict what a character can do, is all part of the excitement when threading and plotting. Godmodding discourages the other member from writing as they may not feel they have any control or say over a character they are meant to and can be extremely disheartening and frustrating for members. How do I know if I'm Godmodding? This can be the tricky part!
