you can run BUT YOU'LL DIE TIRED Hunt was about to have an incredibly important meeting with the Magistrate as a small group of Bow Street Runners -- ones specifically hand picked by Hunt as being the best among the Runners. Ezra had received very brief tidbits about what this was regarding and the seriousness of it, was indeed of great importance. He could tell the Magistrate was waiting for something before starting and Ezra was about to question it . . .when she walked in. Hunt nearly rolled his eyes, the moment becoming worse when the Magistrate stated "Now, let us begin." Had they been waiting for Miss Denford?! Ridiculous. Hunt forced himself not to focus -- or perhaps dwell was the more accurate term -- on the fact that she was here, present in this rather important meeting.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ He did not like the fact that she was to be a part of it, especially when the Magistrate explained that the Queen was enlisting the services of them to uncover the identity of Whistledown. The investigation was one that Hunt personally found quite trivial, but he would not of course question Her Majesty. It was further added that they would be meeting with the Queen to discuss any details of this case. Ezra was automatically selected to be the one to go -- "And Miss Denford can accompany you." Hunt ever so slightly narrowed his eyes. "Sir, that is not necessary," he stated as the men piled out of the room. "I can handle a conversation with Her Majesty on my own." Not even bothering to look at Emmeline nor address her. There was absolutely no way he was going to meet the Queen with this woman at his side.

Something was happening! Emmeline was not sure what it was, yet there was a air of hush and rush around her. She quickly made her way to Sir Throne's office--the office it was said that Mr. Huntington would one day claim--to find out. Emmeline had made it her mission to become the most needed person in the building. It had been hard work, yet all too easy at the same time. No one questioned her effectiveness, but for ONE man. The one she needed under her the most. UNDER HER POWER! The one who she needed to like her the most. Huntington. Or Hunt to his . . . . others.
Dare not the man had friends. Entering into the room, Emmeline walked up to join the men, and stood close to Mr. Hunt. So close that her shoulder nearly brushed his. If she moved in the slightest--or if he did--then their shoulders would touch. She knew that it was folly to encourage it, yet standing this close to him made her skin feel tight and alert. Something she liked and did not in the same moment. If he--Wait, what?!
THE QUEEN WANTED WHAT! Forgetting for a moment she was trying to tempt him into liking her in order to spill his secrets, she stepped a little closer to Sir Throne's desk. "The Queen?" She asked in surprise, and then looked back over her shoulder at Mr. Hunt. She smiled slowly, with an amused expression as he claimed he could go alone. "I shall go with you and help aid you in speaking to royalty so you do not loose your head, Mr. Huntington. I like it where it is." OH! that was bold of her and she waited for his reaction. "Just as well, Sir Throne has give his orders." Turning to smile at the man. "And I will not let you down, good Sir."

you can run BUT YOU'LL DIE TIRED She was standing so close to him, he could smell her perfume. Her shoulder practically touching his and he knew for a fact, it was intentional. He shifted casually but once, to which she moved with him but anything further than that would reveal that she was irritating him. And, he did not wish to give her that evident satisfaction. Though, a part of him felt . . . that she already knew it. When she was of course willing to accompany them, she spoke of going with him so that he would not loose his head . . . commenting that she liked where it was.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ Hunt sharply turned to look at her, displeased by the remark. And also the insinuation -- the rather obvious one for subtle she was not -- that he needed her to help him. That he needed her to 'save' him. "I do not require your assistance," he told her bluntly. "My head will remain precisely the same as it is now, when I exit the audience with Her Majesty. Much to your delight, apparently." There was a bit of sarcasm in his voice, but far from playful. The Magistrate seemed rather done with the conversation since he had stepped away and Ezra just looked at her. "You will remain here," he practically ordered, already attempting to step past her so that he would not keep the Queen waiting . . . and yet, somehow, knew that he was not going to be the one coming out victorious from this battle.

If she had learned anything in her need to slip past ever defense in this place, it was that subtle did not get her were she wanted to be. It hindered her, and she was not one to be hindered. Turning to face him she stepped slightly closer, so they were not touching but she had to look up to see his face. Bold being Sir Throne was there as well, but the man had ordered her to go along so Hunt's protest did not frighten her in the least. Until he took power of this place, she was going to use her power to get what she wanted--and she wanted to meet the queen!
"I shall, of course, meet you in the carriage Mister Hunt." She told him, knowing he would HATE her ignoring him, and knowing that he made her bold and cheeky. "We shall make haste so not to make the queen wait." He would be livid at her telling him what to do. She knew it! So she smiled sweetly up at him, to seal the deal. She could walk away first, and she knew that it might save her if she did. Thankfully she was already clean and dressed in her best dress. If not then making him wait would mean he left with out her.
He stepped around her and walked out, leaving her to hasten her steps to keep up with him. That was when an idea claimed her that she KNEW would get a reaction out of him. She almost did not do it, however she wanted to see his reaction more then she feared his reaction. So she quickened her steps to get to his side, and linked her arm with his, as if he was escorting her there.

you can run BUT YOU'LL DIE TIRED Ineed, he felt the sting of annoyance when she disregarded all he said and instead, made plans and seemed to take control. This was his investigation and yet, she acted as if she was the authority here. It was most fortunate that he had made his leave from the room, from her presence . . . though it did not last long for she hurried to position herself by his side. And to make matters even more irritating, she linked her arm through his. He slightly clenched his jaw at the undesired gesture, keeping his eyes forward though did not enjoy her linking her arm through is.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ "That is most unnecessary," he stated bluntly, words meant for her ears though he had no qualms with making it well know. After all, it was not as if his . . . less than amicable nature towards her was any secret. "You are not to say a word in the Queen's presence," he instructed her. Though somehow knew that in saying the words, she was going to do the precise opposite of them. Perhaps he should tell her to speak to her heart's content . . . would she then silence her tongue just to defy him? "I will speak and make inquiries to gather information about this investigation." He stopped walking once they were outside the building, and turned to look at her. "You, are to hold your tongue," he practically warned, pulling his arm free of hers as he made his way to the carriage that awaited . . . them, apparently.

Shockingly he did not pull away right away. Instead he began listing off demands that Emmeline had no desire or ability to follow. She would not speak? Did he really know so little of her? Emmeline spoke and spoke often! She did not handle silence well. She did not enjoy glowering in silence. AND she had no intention of not speaking to the Queen herself! Hunt even came to a stop and faced her, to drive his demand home. "I have no intention of doing any of that." She informed him, before walking around him and to the carriage.
The drive helped her in, and Emmeline took the seat facing forward, as she did not enjoy traveling backwards. Once Hunt was in, Emmeline folded her hands in her lap and smiled over at him. "Do you think she will invited us to tea?" How divine that would be!! "Do you think we will see the king?" Who some claimed was mad. "I cannot believe we shall meet the queen! Never in my life would I have thought to meet her!"
Looking at Hunt with a smile, "Have you met her before?" She did not think so. Men like him--and women like her--did not often meet with the Queen. This was something unheard of and spectacular! If only her mother were alive to know of this! She might write to her aunt, but they were not close. In was in this moment her smile stiffened as she realized there was no one she could tell about this. She had put everything into this plan.

you can run BUT YOU'LL DIE TIRED Hunt was unsure what irritated him more; her refusal to follow his orders, or the unapologetic way she stated it. So nonchalant, so dismissive of everything he had said. She was infuriating, and he still did not understand why everything he did, required her to be present. Once they were situated into the carriage, the ride began to set them off towards the royal family. "This is not a social visit," he told her bluntly, as she asked questions of having tea, and meeting the king -- both of which he thought were incredibly unlikely.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ "We are strictly on business. And should you continue to speak without thought, we will not make it passed the entrance." A warning in his voice. Who knows what she was going to say in the presence of the queen. With any luck, she would be so nervous to be in the queen's presence, she would fall silent. And yet . . . somehow Ezra knew that would not likely happen. A quiet Emmeline seemed impossible. "It does not matter," he said in a low voice when she asked if he had met the queen. He had been in her presence before, accompanying the magistrate but he had never actually held a conversation with her. "We are hired for our services. Do not make this about anything else." Pausing he looked at her with a stern expression. "Control yourself." Further warning and demand in his words.

How was he so calm?! She was bursting inside and he was unaffected! "Mr. Hunt, the queen has summoned you. She will know your name. She will listen to you for a few moments! How are you just sitting there?!" How was he still grumpy?!
"It is said that one day you will take the role of magistrate. Do you not see that by serving the queen well, she can mark that with her approval?" And yet he wished to be quick? They were about to walk into the palace and meet the most powerful woman in England--and debatable the world. How did that not affect him.
Emmeline pressed her hands into her chest as if to hold down her heart that was fluttering madly. "If you can not summon the excitement, then I will do it for us both!" Sitting back in her seat she looked out the window, but did not linger for a second before looking back at him. "Did you suggest I speak with out thinking?" She had heard it, but not realized it until now.
