I first spun: "Sweetheart, what did you bury in the garden?" But then tried again and got: "Don't be scared. I just need you to come with me for a minute."
There is your challenge!

i have sworn TO DO VERY FOOLISH THINGS Vaughn lingered on London far longer than desired. While he had just enough men to sail a ship, several of his previous crewmates had abandoned their positions out of fear of being caught. The Bow Street Runners were doing nothing to help this. He already had some men nervous about sailing, and Vaughn did not want any cowards in his crew. That being said, there was not much of a choice either. He had very few that have been with him since the beginning, far more loyal than the new members. So right now, he needed to do something to ease their minds. He needed to teach these law abiding bastards that they were untouchable. That they could get to them as they so pleased.
Vaughn had done his fair deal of watching . . . and came to discover that there was a woman among the Bow Street Runners. She seemed to hold some position there, and while Vaughn hated dealing with people aboard his ship -- non crew mates -- this would be a good opportunity to gain some leverage. And profit in the process. After all if he had to choose, women were easier to apprehend than men. Skulking in the shadows, he kept a watchful eye on the woman. His hat tipped downwards to conceal part of his face, and his black attire aiding in remaining inconspicuous.
He followed her for a little bit, until finally making his presence known to her. "Pardon me," he greeted, abruptly stepping into her path. "Are you the Misses who works with the Bow Street Runners?" He asked curiously, already knowing the answer. She was quite a pretty little thing . . . perhaps this would be more fun than he thought. "Don't be scared. I just need you to come with me for a minute," he told her with a smile.

Emmeline did not keep to a strict schedule, as there were moments that times were busy when working with the runners, and there were times when it was not. Apparently commenting on how not busy it was, was means to upset all the men! Emmeline made such a mistake today while not knowing the superstition. Now anything that happened today was her fault. Giving up on them she decided to leave early and be on her way.
Lost in thought she did not notice anyone following her, OR stepping into her way until she almost bumbled into him. She wasn't complacently daft. She knew an unsavory man when she saw one. This one had a darkness about him that was more then just his clothes. "Sir?" She asked when he pardoned himself. Then he asked if she worked for the runners. Oh! He needed something from them. He would not be the first to try to ask her of a favor in or to employ the runners in a task. "I am, yes!" She told him with a smile. If the man looked this down on his luck, he must be having a hard day.
He needed her to come with him. Emmeline's brows knitted together for a moment, as it was an odd request. Come with him? He needed to show her something? Was someone in trouble? She looked around for a moment but did not see any runners that could go with him. And it would not be the first time someone came in and used to her to get to them--just the other week a woman had come in begging a runner to help her sister who's husband was forbidding her to see her family after the woman had betrayed him. After the runners who were around refused to get into the business of meddling in a marriage, the woman had begged Emmeline. Taking pity on the woman, Emmeline had pestered the runners to go! It had taken all her effort! if Mr. Hunt HAD been around he would have fired her (again).
"Very well, but I cannot promise to be of help. The runners are a bit cross with me today." She told him, taking his arm so he could lead her to wherever he needed. She wanted to help--she did want to help! After coming to see the runners were rough around the edges but not evil men, she had begun to try to be helpful to them and a part of their world. "Apparently they are as superstitious as sailors."

i have sworn TO DO VERY FOOLISH THINGS Vaughn knew and expected that he would have to put in some work with this one. What he was not expecting, was her to so easily agree and then . . . take his arm. He nearly paused at the surprise, though knew it would blow his cover and destroy his attempt to lure her. Perhaps this one was daft and naïve. Either way, Vaughn had no complaints for it brought his plan closer than anticipated to fruition. "Oh I think you could be of tremendous help." She was making this too easy.
Vaughn had to wonder for a moment if he was being set up. If his plan to set them up, was in turn, setting him up. He casually glanced behind them to ensure they weren't being followed. This was too easy indeed . . . and too good to be true. "Are they now?" He asked with exaggerated surprise. "Now what reason could these fools have to be cross with a lovely, kind woman such as yourself?" Kind words were against his nature. But . . . playing a part to gain advantage and to deceit, was far more in character for him. This was no exception. She had made it this easy thus far. All he need do is distract her for a little bit longer until they got to his ship . . . and there was no turning back.
