To some, it would seem a dishonorable thing to have an affair with a married man. Certainly the Nobles within the Ton would believe so. But Isabel was not a Noble and she had not been raised like the others. Despite having a mistress being a common thing, it was still frowned upon if word was to get out. But Isabel didn't think about those things and she didn't care. It made no difference to her, so long as she was being taken care of. Still, it was an odd thing for her to get used to. She had spent so much of her life taking care of herself and relying on no one but herself. Now to have William paying for her apartments and other things that she needed was not something she was accustomed to.
There were things about it that bothered her. The idea that she would sleep with no one else, while not a huge problem, was something Isabel disliked. If she wished to spend time with someone else, then why shouldn't she be able to? Isabel believed these problems stemmed from her not liking being told what to do but knew that it wasn't completely out of the ordinary for rules to be set for a mistress. While he had not asked, Isabel knew there was one thing she would refuse should William expect it; she would not stop working at her business. She had worked far too hard and would not rely on a man, for she knew they could change their minds as quickly as the weather.
Sitting within her apartments, Isabel finished changing out of her clothes from her day. It had been long, but fortunately no issues with any clients or the girls. Those were the things that mattered the most to Isabel. There had certainly been times clients had gotten rough and she'd wasted no time kicking them out, but not after telling Reuben about them so that he might have his colleagues have a chat with the men. Her thoughts were disrupted by the sound of her front door being unlocked and Isabel knew it must be William. He was, after all, the only one who had a key other than herself.
