prompt: "you've only heard his point of view. you never asked mine." The connection between the two of them was vague at best. Sir Phillip's brother had served alongside Kitty's husband...though she was certain that meant about as much to him as it did to her. She seldom saw her husband, let alone the men he served with — if she'd ever met the other Crane, she didn't recall. Perhaps Phillip had met her husband, but even then, he likely knew more of him than she did. Oliver was, for all intents and purposes, a stranger with whom she shared a last name and two children. Such was life in the ton, she wasn't complaining, but she couldn't help but wonder just what he'd heard from the General if they had met. "You've only heard his point of view. You never asked mine," she mused, when the topic did change to her husband. What might Phillip have heard? Perhaps he liked to show off, to imply they had a wonderful marriage, despite the fact that couldn't be further from the truth. "Have you ever met him? I know he served alongside your brother. George, was it? I was sorry to hear of his passing. My condolences." [attr="class","mizocredit"] [newclass=.mizocredit a]font:bold 6pt calibri;letter-spacing:1px;color:#b5d1f1;[/newclass]

[googlefont="Noto Serif:400"][googlefont="Sacramento:400"] [attr="class","target"] sir phillip crane (second - son) tag: @kitty notes: none! | [attr="class","targettext"] There was a certain honor that undoubtedly came from being in the army. Phillip's father had always been proud of George and for enlisting in fighting for his country. It was yet another reason that George was far greater a man than he. He could only imagine how difficult it must be to leave one's loved ones behind, and fight for your country and your life in such environments. George had left Marina and Kitty, surely felt the sting of her husband's absence. For he was a general, a far more advanced ranking than most. But with it, came far more responsibility as well.
"Thank you," he added in a low voice. The loss of his brother would not be something he fully recovered from. One merely learned to cope with loss every day, not to truly move past the pain. "I know very little," he assured her. "I have not met your husband but George spoke quite highly of him in his letters." General Langham. "So I shall reserve any points of view or judgement until I have heard from both sides." His voice meant as a tease, but he knew it came off more dryly than that. "And your children, how old are they?" Marina was expecting and . . . Phillip was unsure how he was going to be as a father. He already struggled with thoughts of being a husband. But honor was what bound him to her, and such honor would dissuade him from making any other choice.

kitty & phillip. Perhaps those who worked with Alexander had reason to speak highly of him, but Kitty certainly did not. He was likely a good solider, a good general, and knew how to handle the men who worked with him...but he certainly wasn't a good husband, nor was he a good father. He was never home, never around, and she loathed that anyone might think him a good man. If he were a good man, then perhaps her marriage wouldn't be so miserable. The freedoms were the only decent part, for while she loved her girls, it wasn't easy to raise two of them alone. Yes, she had household help, but it wasn't the same as the two of them actually having a father in their lives. "Young enough not to realise he's never around," she murmured. While she'd talk to the other married ladies of the ton about how terrible their husbands were, it was hardly appropriate to speak negatively of him to another gentlemen. With Sir Crane, she should only really be exchanging pleasantries, acting like everything was alright. Normal. "Nancy is almost six months – Beatrice is eighteen months," she explained. Once every twelve months, like clockwork, likely until they had a boy, an heir. "Do you have children, Sir Crane?"
