-------------------------------------------- Another day, another ball, another moment wasted - at least in the prince's mind. The ladies' various, loud mamas seemed to be having an exceptional time, rushing toward him every time he took a step forward or back with their young daughters, practically begging him to at least consider them. The prince wanted someone specific, of exceptional talent and worth, to match his tastes. If she was to be the regent queen of Denmark one day, then she needed to earn the title.  He came back and forth from Copenhagen, somewhat acting as a Danish envoy for England and its isles. They were on decent terms now that the war was practically over. His eyes scoured the room, taking in every individual in the room, even though were so many nobility presents that evening. Nodding toward the gentlemen before him, he smiled and wished them farewell before fixing his gloves and wandering about the room.   Before he could even blink, two ladies and their mamas had approached him, announcing their names and titles as the prince managed to bow back.

Another ball! All day her and her mother had eagerly readied themselves, futzing with their dresses and headpieces and anything they possible could to make themselves look as extravagant and desirable as possible. Cressida practiced her various demure smiles trying to hide her devious nature and propensity for glaring. She may not be able to hide her snide remarks in front of women, giving far too much into the Ton's gossip, but around a man, she could put on a show. Of course, contrary to her belief, it was one that was very much over the top.

However, perhaps, that thought was premature, for word had quickly travelled that a prince was in town. Maybe over the top was exactly what he needed.

More than that, though, this news made the Cowper women all the more frantic. They dowsed themselves in strong, flowery perfumes that nearly made themselves sick. They laced their corsets tighter. They put on more rogue. By the time they arrived at the ball, spotted the prince and swarmed him, Cressida was nearly dizzy. Perhaps, she wouldn't need to put on a fake fainting spell as she lowered herself to bow before him.

"Your Royal Highness." Cressida offered a small smile, keeping her gaze low and gently fanning below her face to highlight her bosom.

-------------------------------------------- A particular lady amongst the masses caught his attention. She was the prettiest creature that he'd ever laid eyes upon. A British rose. She approached him and his cerulean eyes could not help but twinkle slightly and then slowly move down to the fan, though he caught himself before he could commit such a crime among the English nobility and royalty. He returned a small bow to her before inquiring and offering her a charming smile, "Lady...?"  She'd be the first individual he'd dance with that evening. The young woman seemed enticing enough, based on her appearance and demureness, at least.  Could she make a decent conversation with him? That was the second test. The prince was rather particular about his future wife. He was nearing thirty and remained single. Christian had enough fun in the past and decided to settle down, finally. The kingdom required it, too. It was duty.

A Future Queen?

It was paying off. Everything she had worked for was paying off. All that time of no-so-gently pushing other girls out of the way and stepping on their feet to get here before...a Prince! Her small smile started to grow and even met her eyes in a more genuine way than it had in a long time. Her heart raced, heat rushed to her cheeks, but to the outside world, she still likely seemed rather collected. She had to be. She really wanted this to work and finally get her happy ending.

Was her life about to become a fairytale?

She was determined to make that come true, even if it meant hiding much of her true nature. She even stayed in her curtsy a moment longer than she likely should before her eyes briefly came up to meet his.

"—Cowper," she offered. Her smile grew even more as she spoke . However, just as quickly as she started, she stopped and lowered her gaze, determined to play coy.

-------------------------------------------- Cowper. He was thankful that he was male and was not required to take on her family name -- if it ever got to that, at least. "A pleasure, Lady Cowper," Christian smiled before offering his gloved hand to her, "Will you grace me with your company for the first dance?" Would this be a mistake of his? The prince had shared so many dances with ladies that provided little conversation or charm.  The night was still young and if he grew bored, he would take his leave from the ballroom early. He knew that eyes were on them the second he requested a dance from her, given both their statuses in society. Christian was of royal blood and she was a noble, regardless of her father's title. The policy simply dictated that he take a wife of high stature and individuals like Lady Cowper were among the several in the room that held rank.

A Future Queen?

This was always one of the most nerve-wracking moments in a young woman's life. Her first impression on a man could mean the difference between a good, long lasting marriage and spinsterhood. That might seem dramatic and in a lot of ways, it was. New people still came to the ton from time to time and one still had plenty of different ways to impress the Queen in hopes she might introduce them to a royal, but the circle was much smaller than one might think. And, if Lady Whistledown was anything to go by, the ton liked to talk — good and, especially, bad.

Cressida was no different. She and her mother loved the ton gossip. Sometimes they fueled it, spreading little stories here and there. Sometimes they just watched from the sidelines with their noses in the air and a sneer on their face. However, that was the very reason why Cressida took this so seriously. She knew what it meant. She knew her duty as the only daughter, and only child, of Lord and Lady Cowper.

With the prince before her now, she continued to smile demurely and happily took his hand. "I would be honored, Your Highness."

-------------------------------------------- Once she accepted his hand, he led her straight to the floor just when the music was about to play. Placing his hand firmly on the hip, he gazed down upon her with his cerulean eyes and failed to hide a slightly devious smirk, daring to tell her she looked lovely that evening without actually telling her that. It was terribly funny how slight movements worked in their society. Actions spoke louder than words.  He began swaying her softly to the music, twirling her once before bringing her back to his figure. "So tell me, Lady Cowper," He initiated the conversation, as one does. Prince Christian believed that it was a man's duty to do so. He'd been taught so since he was as little as one year old. "Do you have any particular hobbies?"
