eloise & cressida. “What an utter tragedy to think you weren’t named diamond again this season.” Nobody could ever accuse Eloise of caring about things as mundane as who was named diamond of the season, but her words dripped with vitriol. It mattered very little to her, but clearly it meant something to Cressida — why else would a person step all over the other young ladies of the ton? What else did she possibly have to gain? Title. Status. Suitors. All things the fifth Bridgerton had absolutely no interest in. It was surprising, really, that she’d ever wished to have her as an ally, though her only real interest was likely in the Bridgerton name. Who wouldn’t wish to get close to someone who had a viscount as a brother, a duchess as a sister, and three unmarried older brothers? It was clearly all about what she could gain, and not at all about Eloise herself. Their personality were hardly a match made in heaven, and she could imagine Cressida positively recoiling were she ever to mention women having equal rights. One-on-one time with the blonde was always suspicious, especially when they both had dance cards around their wrists that could be filled. Eloise would be more likely to fill hers with fictitious names to avoid actually having to dance, but it was surprising to see Cressida wasn’t already clawing other debutantes eyes out to get close to the most eligible bachelors the ton had on offer. “Could your little followers not make it this evening, or have they finally realised speaking to an inanimate object would offer more substance?” [attr="class","mizocredit"] [newclass=.mizocredit a]font:bold 6pt calibri;letter-spacing:1px;color:#b5d1f1;[/newclass]

I Would Rather Die Eloise Bridgerton & Cressida Cowper It was a rarity to see Cressida on her own at an event like this. Usually, she fluttered about the place, fawning over any man of status she could possibly get her hands on, or huddled in a corner with her mama and other gossiping girls waiting for their turn at a dance. However, now, for hopefully a brief moment, Cressida found herself alone with the most loathsome Bridgerton.
Some might consider that sentiment cruel, unnecessary and foolish. However, the words that came out of the brunette's mouth first, cut into Cressida more than she cared to admit. Her sickeningly sweet smile cracked and fell from her face. Her teeth grit. She contemplated tossing an exceptionally unladylike remark back at the other, but somehow she found time to take a breath and swallow it down. It didn't entirely quell her simmering anger, as the smile she tried to plaster on in the aftermath was even more forced than the last.
Still...Cressida had to remind herself that despite the way she carried herself, Eloise was still a Bridgerton. If Cressida was ever to win over one of the Bridgerton boys, a feat she still believed possible, she had to unfortunately listen to Daphne and choose her words more carefully.
She pursed her lips. She tried to keep her face pleasant prepared herself for a short conversation that she could hopefully brush in favor of finding literally any gentleman to take away from this little talk. That was the plan, anyway, but of course, when Eloise opened her mouth again, it only got worse.
"Very funny," she hissed. The last remnants of feigned politeness left her body as a dry, exhaled chuckle slipped through her tight lips. "Says the girl who hardly ever entertains a moment of silence. Perhaps, it is you that could benefit from talking to inanimate objects. I know the rest of us would if you did." @eloisebridgerton - FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT - also no need to match length

eloise & cressida. It seemed that nobody truly got along with Cressida Cowper. Even Daphne — who was perfect for all intents and purposes, and seemed to never have a bad word to say about anyone — couldn’t stand her. It was refreshing, actually, to know her older sister felt negatively about someone. When it came to the woman before her, it seemed nigh on impossible not to absolutely loathe her, she was always so cruel, so ready to step all over everyone simply to find a husband. Eloise may have been able to simply ignore her, were it not for the way she treated Penelope. The poor treatment of her best friend was enough to cause her to go on the defensive, to hate her on principle. A scowl crossed her lips, a most unladylike scoff following. Eloise cared little for being ladylike, but the same couldn’t be said for the other debutante. Her entire life seemed to revolve around the dull, inane practices Eloise went out of her way to avoid. How exhausting it must have been to actually care about such things. None of it mattered in the slightest to her, even if she did fear disappointing her mama even further. In truth, the way she spoke to Cressida, despite being warranted, would probably disappoint her enough, but it was hardly going to stop her. Very little could stop Eloise Bridgerton from being her blunt, sharp self, especially around those who deserved the jibes. “You’re always so full of such originality, aren’t you?” Eloise mocked, rolling her eyes. Nobody in the ton seemed to have any original thoughts, so that was nothing new — but regardless, she couldn’t resist pointing it out. “I suppose if you had an original thought, your delicate head might explode. Have you come to compare dance cards? I’m afraid mine is already full.”[attr="class","mizocredit"] [newclass=.mizocredit a]font:bold 6pt calibri;letter-spacing:1px;color:#b5d1f1;[/newclass]

I Would Rather Die Eloise Bridgerton & Cressida Cowper How did Eloise always manage to get under her skin like this? Cressida had even been trying to be pleasant around the other before Eloise opened her mouth. She'd offered her her signature sickeningly sweet smile and even let her speak first. This was rare for Cressida. And, sure, the two of them had never truly gotten along, even as kids, but Cressida kept hoping that with age, the second eldest Bridgerton daughter would see how important it was to have the right allies in the ton, especially now that she was out in society. It would be foolish not to.
Okay, and maybe more truthfully, Cressida was hoping to patch things up with Eloise in order to fix her blunder with Daphne. If she was going to follow her own advice about allies, it would be ridiculous not to start with the Bridgertons. In the back of her mind, she couldn't help thinking that if things went well, she might some day be Viscountess Bridgerton. Wouldn't that be grand? Stil, the anger pulsing through her veins was starting to win with every passing second.
"At least I am realistic, Eloise" she finally spat at the other. A scowl took over her entire face and she could feel herself shaking with rage. She hated how much Eloise made her feel stupid just for doing what the rest of the ton did. Only Eloise was the odd one out here. "You may look down upon marriage and the very idea of securing a husband, but you might think twice when you end up all alone."
She sighed, closed her eyes and tried to put a failing smile back on her face. She even tried to laugh it off. "Look. We jest, Eloise, but surely we do not truly hate one another. Perhaps, we could put this ugliness behind us. It seems as though you might need some help now that there is no Daphne around to set an example."

eloise & cressida. "Are you offering to set an example for me? How kind of you." What on earth could Cressida Cowper possibly teach her? How to have the tightest hair possible? How to be the cruelest possible person? Eloise already had enough of a way with words, she knew how to be snarky and sharp-witted, and she would take careful aim with her words when she needed to. There was nothing beneficial for her, where Cressida was concerned — but there was plenty for the blonde to gain with her. Eloise was no fool, she knew how beneficial the Bridgerton name could be to social climbers, whether they actually liked her or not. If she wanted someone mild-mannered, she'd have been better off with literally any other Bridgerton, but even Daphne had seen right through her. Hopefully Frannie, too, would realise how deplorable was when she debuted the following season.
As far as she could tell, nobody in the ton could offer her the kind of example she wanted anyway. That would be found in the women who spoke out at the rallies in Bloomsbury, the women who actually made their own way in the world, and relied on a man for nothing. She wasn't blind to the fact her pin money came from her eldest brother, and she'd technically been relying on a man her whole life, but it was something she wished to break free of. The chains of society had been weighing her down for much too long, and she'd be happy to free herself of the shackles.
"What example would you be setting for me, exactly? How to reach twenty without achieving a single marriage proposal?" Harsh? Yes, but it was true. Eloise was in her first season, after delaying her debut for a year...Cressida must have been in her fourth, and had not yet learned how to achieve what she wanted. If Eloise had actually wanted to wed, there'd been plenty of gentlemen tripping over themselves to dance with her — she'd simply been too stubborn, and ensured her dance card was already full of fictitious names before any real men could ask for a dance. It would, allegedly, be improper to dance with too many gentlemen in one night.
Arms came to fold across her chest, blue-grey eyes studying the blonde with disdain. Were she anybody else, she might have felt bad for being so harsh with her, but Cressida made it all too easy. "Aside from the Bridgerton name, what would you actually want from me? I hardly think you'd want to hear any of my views. If you're that desperate for a man, Cressida, there are plenty of other young ladies with older brothers around here. Some of them might even pretend to like you."
