kitty & prince friedrich.
It certainly wasn't every day that one learnt a Prince was coming to visit, and while Kitty was more than used to high society, titles and status, it was still somewhat daunting when one met a member of a royal family for the first time. When she'd first become the General's wife, she'd always been on his arm in moments such as this one, introduced with a pleasant smile, and very little other than pleasantries offered. With Oliver always so far away from home, seldom returning, and never bothering to visit her when he was near London, it was no longer that simple. It would, however, require a lot of false niceties, pretending she truly appreciated all the praise for a husband she never saw, and felt absolutely nothing towards.
While she was no stranger to royalty, Princess Charlotte being a dear friend of hers, it was entirely different when meeting in a more 'official' capacity. Kitty may have been a wife, rather than a solider herself, but she knew why he was meeting her. If she wasn't the daughter of a late general, and the wife of a current one, they wouldn't be meeting like this; it would simply be a passing smile, and perhaps a brief introduction at any event they both happened to attend.
When the formalities were finally over, and most of the staff had dissipated, Kitty waited a moment, gesturing for him to sit first. "Tea should be with us imminently, your highness. I do hope you weren't expecting to see my husband here this afternoon? I am afraid he hasn't been back in Mayfair for some time."
