i am a viscount
IT IS MY RESPONSIBILITY
This marriage was . . . everything Anthony had expected it to be. Everything he had planned it to be. Ever since the Queen had named the Diamond of the Season, he had his eyes set on Edwina because . . . because it had made sense. They were both objectively the best match with love far removed from the equation. After all, he had but a handful of years left if his father's death was any indication -- for Anthony believed he too would pass in that year. And if his wife did not love him, then she need not mourn. And if he did not love her, then her loss while felt, would not devastate and crumble him to practically non existing. As he had witnessed many years ago. So yes. This all made sense, and Edwina held no objection to the union. She seemed happy, and he would take care of her well. They would have children and all would as it was meant to.
This, is what Anthony need focus on. Not the fact that he had felt such strong emotions for his sister. Feelings he had set to rest, particularly now with Kate gone back to India. It was both torture and relief. For he would not have to see her. He would not have to look at her, to feel her near . . . to smell her intoxicating scent. She was gone and to be quite frank, he preferred it this way. His marriage was done, his duty was set and he would live out the remainder of his years in this fitting role in which he belonged. And of course, could do what he could to provide for her, to make her happy, and to ensure that she did not want for anything.
As he was putting some things away he came to find a bracelet. Inspecting it, and not recognizing it, he of course assumed it was his wife's. Perhaps she had misplaced it, considering where it had revealed itself to be. It was quite beautiful and ornate. Surely, Edwina would be missing this. Stepping out of the room and asking a passing servant where the Viscountess was, Anthony was informed that she was in the parlor in preparation for tea. Making his way there, he saw her sitting alone and approached, extending the bracelet towards her. "I found this wrapped in some cloth." Standing in front of her, he held out the piece of jewelry so that she could take it. "I presume it is yours and perhaps was misplaced?" Both inquiry and assumption in his tone.
