Roleplay Dictionary
New to role playing? Well, here are some frequently used terms to help familiarize you with rp lingo! It will be frequently updated. If you have any to add, please send the admin a PM and it will be added in.
- AU: stands for Alternate Universe and it is where plots that step outside of the canon verse take place. For example: a modern plot where characters are in the 21st century, or a plot where Daphne ends up marrying Nigel, etc.
- Avatar: refers to the image on the left hand side of your post where you can place an image/gif of the character you are role playing; the dimensions are 250 pixels x 400 pixels.
- Canon: refers to the original source material for a role play. For instance: canon characters are characters from the show (i.e. Simon, Daphne, Penelope, etc), or canon plots are events that took place in the show.
- Face Claim: refers to the model/celebrity used to portray your character. For example: the Face Claim for Eloise Bridgerton is Claudia Jessie. For Made Up Characters, you are permitted to choose which celebrity you would like to represent your character.
- God-mod: refers to when a role player powerplays, or controls another character in their post without that player's consent. It is not permitted on the site.
- IC: stands for In Character and are posts or areas for the character to talk, not the role player.
- Icon: refers to the image that appears next to the thread that you started viewable in a board, as well as the image that appears at the bottom of the forum's home page when you are online. It is typically an image/gif of the character you are role playing and it's dimensions are a maximum of 150 pixels by 150 pixels.
- Mun: refers to the writer for the character; the person who writes for the muse.
- Muse: refers to the character that the writer role plays/writes for.
- NPC: stands for Non Player-Character and is a character created by the role player, administrator that is not being actively played nor open for applications.
- OC: stands for Original Character. These are characters who are entirely made up by the role player, and do not appear in the show. The member is able to make up all details (i.e. name, face claim, personality, rank, family, etc) so long as it fits into the realm of Bridgerton.
- One-Liner: refers to posts that consist of one or two lines. They are typically not permitted in role play threads, but however are acceptable for meme responses, out of character chat, and so on.
- OOC: stands for Out of Character and are posts or areas for the role player to talk, not the character they are writing for.
- Posting Template: refers to a form of role paly graphic, usually coded in HTML and CSS, that you can customize to jazz up your character posts. It can usually be customizable to include different colors, images, fonts, etc. Pre-made templates can be found on resource sites.
- RP: is a shortened term for 'role play'.
- Signature: refers to the area beneath each of your posts where you can place an image, gif, quote, etc related to the character you are role playing.
- Thread: a collection of posts that involve 2 or more role players; consists of an opening post and subsequent replies.
