This social season was her first and having watched Eloise drag her feet about marriage Frannie was not looking forward to her debut. The first ball had been so overwhelming.
It was the next day and Frannie woke up to being told the parlor was full of callers...for her. As soon as she was dressed Frannie ran to find her sister. ELOISE! please let me in!

In truth, it was her least favorite time of the year and she was fairly sure that everyone in her family knew it ( if only the male suitors knew it as well ). The only bright side was being near Pen and being able to promenade around the park with her, getting inspiration so that she could write during the night, often falling asleep at her desk as she had the night before.
Her sister's frantic knocking was what pulled her from her slumber, a small grumble leaving her mouth as she stood from her desk and closed her journal, putting the quill in her hand back in the ink bottle as she approached the door, tired look on her face as she opened it a sliver.
" What time is it, sister? What has happened? " Her hair was a mess and there was ink on her hands, but Eloise seemed not to mind, looking the other up and down before opening the door up a little bit more so that she could enter. " What is it that you need? "

authorfliesFrannie knew that she had woken her sister up but she was desperate for a place to hide. She had her maid fussing over her and dressing her as if she was getting ready for another ball but it was too much. Frannie barely noticed Eloise's words as she pushed her way into her room then pushed the door shut locking it at once. Hide me! I can't deal with this. Mother had me primped and I'm told there's already callers. For me!

For you? Oh thank heavens - Eloise wanted to proclaim, though realizing that thus might not be the kindest thing to say and though she would frame it as a joke, that might not exactly be how she could best help her sister. Especially seeing how worried Francesca was... Eloise quickly swallowed the comment down in favor of locking the door that her sister had shut, waking up ever so slightly as she scanned her sister's face.
" ... Are you not excited, sister? It is a good thing, isn't it?" It wasn't. Not really. Not at all. At least it wasn't to her, but Francesca should have been excited at this. She thought she should have been. " Just breathe sister. Talk me through it all. Let me try to help. "

Once she saw that Eloise had locked the room Frannie sighed in relief and went over to collapse on her sister's bed. Lying on her back she stared up at the ceiling. I had thought that it would be exciting to have a room full of callers but now I am finding it scary. At least at the ball there were other people. What if they find me boring or we have nothing to say? I just, I can't go down there alone.
She sighed then sat up. What if I don't want to get married and leave here? Why must that be my only option?
