| ~ • ~ | Appearance | ~ • ~ |
.:Physical Appearance:. Piercing blue eyes that are usually somber; a well-built man who keeps in shape even as he ages; a bit disheveled in appearance with his hair and facial hair. .:Height:. 5’11 .:Portrayed by:. Jason Isaacs

.:Personality:. Sebastian is known as the perfect politician; in the House of Lords, he conducts himself with charm and knowledge, advocating for the rights of all (which usually gets him some side-eyes among his peers). His private life is more of a mystery. Before the death of his beloved wife, he was known to be cordial and pleasant, but after he pulled away from the Ton and society, save for his work in politics. As he integrates himself back into that life, he has mostly been quiet and observant. .:Skills:. charisma, passion, intelligence, patience, public speaking, persuasion, able to reasonably and effectively debate .:Weaknesses:. extremely private, his deep grief, horrible at small talk and socializing if not involved with his job

.:Birthplace:. Raglan Castle, Monmouthshire, Wales .:Family:. Gwenneth Somerset (née Robins), wife (deceased); Lilianna Somerset, mother (alive) .:Occupation:. Politician, Author .:History:. Sebastian is the only son of Sebastian Henry Somerset II and his devoted wife Lilianna; he was born as heir to the dukedom of Beaufort. He had a relatively normal life for a nobleman; he went to Eton College and studied politics, he became a politician in his own right before his father died, and he became a member of society in looking for a wife. He is known for his radical beliefs – he is much more liberal than his contemporaries. Due to his charismatic nature in session, however, he has accomplished much.
He met Gwenneth Robins during his fourth season in the Ton after taking an extended break to focus on his career. She instantly charmed him; she was smart, funny, well-read, and insulted him – a perfect match, really. Sebastian fell in love perhaps that night and called upon her for the rest of the season. The Robins were elated when he proposed; while his parents were pleased he found a wife, they were not as pleased with The Robins only having an Earldom. It was “beneath his station”, but he married her anyway. Duke Beaufort was happy with the dowry, and that was that. . . until Gwenneth could not have an heir. Sebastian did not care; he was with the woman he loved. Let the Beaufort Dukedom go to a relative for all he cared; he would not put Gwenneth in any danger.
And thus they were happy for many years. Sebastian inherited the Dukedom in his 35th year after his father passed, and he and Gwenneth lived happily split between Raglan Castle and their home in London. That all changed when she fell ill a few years later. The sickness drained the life from her slowly, and Sebastian dutifully remained at her side until the end. The light had died in him when she passed. The Duke of Beaufort disappeared from high society for years, only showing his face in Parliament. . . only to be pressured by his mother to once again take a wife and have an heir for the Somerset line. He has no interest, no love, for going back into the balls and seducing young women. But he must do his duty, he supposes.

"Were you really spying on me?"Sebastian's brow quirks -- not in disapproval but in amusement. What could the young Bridgerton girl even want with him that she had to reduce herself to spying? Perhaps she is getting quite into politics, but why target him when he has been outspoken about women's rights since he stepped into Parliament in his father's place. He chuckles, shaking his head. After a moment, he holds out his hand to Eloise for whatever may be in her possession.
"What did you discover, then?" He asks, eying her curiously. "Go on, girl. Out with it."

2. My muse is emotionally compromised and breaking down.It is too much. The balls are beautiful and much bigger than Sebastian remembers, but he finds the mothers parading their young daughters to him revolting. How could any of them compare to Gwen, when she was the very sun in the sky? How could any of these young women even look upon him and find him attractive, when he is old and brooding. It is too much to handle. It is beyond what he has prepared himself for. . .
He excuses himself from Portia Featherington, giving a nod to her daughters, before he quickly finds himself leaving the venue altogether. Immediately upon getting to the fresh air of the gardens, he hyperventilates. This is too much for him -- but perhaps not too soon, because Gwen has been dead for years already. How can he live when the other half of him is gone? How could his mother demand an heir to the family?
It feels childish when the tears start trickling down his cheeks. Sebastian grips at a marble railing with his hand, holding a handkerchief to his face as the sobs consume him. He does not wish to do this. He cannot fathom marrying someone else, let alone someone fifteen years his junior. He cries helplessly there, allowing himself this moment; he intends to pull himself together quickly, but for now... he needs the time alone.

#43: Our muses at a mutual loved one’s funeral."He was a good man," a deep voice exclaims behind the young Bridgerton boy. Sebastian can tell it is not the oldest; he knew Edmund well enough and had been introduced to his clan a few times in the past. If his memory serves him well, this one is Benedict. Gwen is with the other women at the funeral surrounding Violet, trying to give her any kind of comfort. The duke stands a bit stone-faced for a moment before relaxing, exhaling a deep breath. "But of course, you knew that. He was your father."
He offers a weak smile, turning his head to the boy. How young he is to lose his father. Sebastian had only lost his own a year prior, so he knows the loss -- but he does not imagine he loved his father as much as Edmund Bridgerton was loved. "He was... wicked brilliant. This loss..." He stumbles over his words. Funny for a politician, he thinks. Quietly, Sebastian moves to place a hand on Benedict's shoulder, giving it a squeeze.
"Do not hold in your grief," He offers instead. "This is a tragedy... a great surprise to all, especially you, young Benedict. Let yourself feel everything you are feeling now... for if you lock it away, it may change you forever."
(Funny that this is the advice he gives now, when he is happy. . . for this very advice to bite him in the arse in a few years time.)

"Nothing's that important, you know."It does feel funny saying those words when he himself has been known to worry his head right off, especially when house proceedings were not going his way. Gwen would always kiss between his brows and say you'll continue to get wrinkles if you worry so much, my love. How he misses her. Alas, time changes all. And so he must be here now, at the club, working out his societal muscles in a way he hasn't in years.
Sebastian takes a sip of his whiskey, standing beside the Bridgerton boy, who has been gazing quietly for the past five minutes or so out into the distance. Lost in thought, the duke presumes. Perhaps he needs someone to talk to -- it is not like Lord Bridgerton has his father to ask certain questions... (A pity that had been, what, nearly a decade ago now? Perhaps longer.)
"A quid for your thoughts, Lord Bridgerton?" He gives him a tight smile that does not meet his eyes.
