you can run BUT YOU'LL DIE TIRED Hunt watched as she began to unpack the snacks and then offer him a drink. To be entirely honest it was quite tempting . . . who wouldn't be tempted by such a thing. But it seemed that there was some sort of, game they often found themselves entangled in. A battle of pride perhaps. Though, Hunt wasn't entirely certain if she even knew she was playing of it was merely one sided. His instinct told him that she knew . . . and that this, was perhaps all of it.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖
"I am fine," he told her, looking away so that not to be tempted. After a few moments he looked back at her not to take what she offered but to question it. "What merits such acts of . . . kindness." -- The last word perhaps spoken with sarcasm -- "You either desire something in exchange, or you are far too comfortable and familiar with circumstances similar to this." Where it came to . . . what, taking care of a man? A family member? A lover? He knew it was not personal to him for his behavior towards her certainly would not give cause for her to be so, gracious to him. For he had not exactly been gracious to her. It only further aroused his suspicion in her eagerness to offer him prepared food and drink.

you can run BUT YOU'LL DIE TIRED "The exception." she seemed to label herself as. "How convenient," he commented, unimpressed, unmoved. Remaining firmly planted in place his eyes continued to lock onto the young woman who was far too bold for her own good. Letting the moment linger, he suddenly jerked his hand forward to grab the papers from her grasp. Papers that she should not have in the first place.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖
"Go home," he told her dismissively and he started to walk around her towards the desk. "Someone will send for you when the magistrate comes, if your position here is truly that important." Besides, Ezra wanted to have a discussion with his superior regarding her position . . . not that he was holding back in front of her nor would his words change out of politeness with her presence.

you can run BUT YOU'LL DIE TIRED She was offering him bread. And cheese. One could not forget the cheese. Her sickingly sweet manner doing nothing to ease his annoyance. Though perhaps, she very well knew that. She knew exactly what she had done and it would not be a far stretch to say that she was rather proud of herself for it. She even grew more comfortable in her position, being far too at ease. He loathed it.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ "I desire nothing from you," he said bluntly. Food was foremost on his mind. He did not excessively eat, or eat a great deal to begin with. Though he suddenly longed for a drink. "Least of all your company." As if it was not known by his expression, he decided to make it known through his words. She not only appeared here at his door, but . . . had prepared for the trip as well. She actually thought well enough ahead to pack food for the trip, anticipating its lengthy duration.

you can run BUT YOU'LL DIE TIRED While it was Ezra's preference to remain in the city, there were on occasion, cases that brought him out of it. Particularly ones where he was requested. In this case, he was the only one asked to come, as the widow wished to keep things quiet. It did not bother Ezra to not take a partner with him. In fact, he saw it as a good thing as he would not have to endure pointless chatter for the woman's residence was over a day's carriage ride away.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ At least this way, he could sit in desired silence. Having packed his necessary belongings, his carriage was right now time. He thought nothing of it as he gave the driver his bag to load and made his way inside. As he stepped to enter he froze when he saw who was there. Bloody hell. She had expressed desire in coming, to which he immediately rejected the 'request' despite her reasoning. The last thing he wanted, or needed was to be in the company of this woman. Though it was not a horrible sight to look at during the ride -- quite the opposite in fact -- it was her chatter that he was already dreading.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ He could have asked what she was doing here but knew that question was useless. That look on her face made him even more irritated. Nor, could he make a scene by literally throwing her out. So instead, he begrudgingly properly entered, and took his place in the seat across from her. His look, expressing how he felt: utterly annoyed. "Drive," he told the driver, not hiding his annoyance from his voice either. He took off his hat and placed it next to him, eyes piecing hers with an brooding glare.

you can run BUT YOU'LL DIE TIRED It was cases such as this that truly gave purpose to the word Runner in their official titles. Ezra had been chasing this man down for blocks, and he refused to let the target go. Perhaps it was his own obsessive need to close the case. One that was not too intense but strong enough that he refused to give up. Some might call it noble determination. He called it annoyance that he had not yet apprehended him. Even when the chase led them to the roofs. Running along it and jumping from the closely positioned houses, adrenaline coursing through both their veins but surely . . . there would be a point where the houses ended.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ Fortunately, Ezra did not have to wait that long for the criminal slipped a bit causing his speed to close and for Ezra to gain the advantage. He threw his body over the man to tackle him, reaching for the handcuffs in his pocket and using his weight to hold him down. The chased was clearly a fool -- or desperate to escape -- or perhaps both, for he saw it fit to attempt to wrestle Ezra. This would have been futile had they not been on a roof with a slight slant so instead of shifting Ezra's weight off of him, he instead caused them to roll down the rest of the roof and land on the ground. Hard. Had the roof been any higher, they would have been dead. A couple other Bow Street Runners hastily caught up to them and quickly arrested the man, while the others attempted to help Ezra.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ "I am fine," he grumbled dismissively, trying to sit up but everything felt dizzy and he felt the intense throbbing in his chest. Mostly likely bruised or broken ribs. Perhaps broken, for walking seemed to be rather difficult at the moment. Unfortunately, the ruckus caused by all this alerted enough people that someone was already making arrangements to transport him and another called for a physician. Before Ezra knew it, he was lying in the bed of his home, having been examined, treated and tended to, given medicine for the pain and under instructions to remain on bed rest for the next several days . . . and to not sleep for the night. This did nothing to help Ezra's already agitated mood. Little did he realize, it may very well get worse.

you can run BUT YOU'LL DIE TIRED This was not exactly Ezra's preferred type of case. There were very that actually peaked his determination of important. Stolen jewels -- even family ones -- were not of importance to him. But alas. He was hired for a job by the Bridgertons and he would ensure he fulfilled his duties diligently. He was approached by the eldest son, and informed of the stolen jewels. They also both agreed that it be best this remain quiet, so not to alert the other guests. Those who possessed them brought expensive and extravagant jewelry for the various events throughout the week, and so there would be panic if word got out that there was a thief amidst them. Therefore, Ezra was determined to uncover the thief before they had the chance to take anything else.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ He had some suspects in mind, and was heading over to one of their rooms right now. A middle class man, who apparently had a large debt due to his gambling ways. The perfect suspect, but certainly not the only one. Ezra would eliminate the list of suspects one by one. Lacking time -- or desire -- to get the other Bow Street Runners he made his way down the hall and whether it was luck or misfortune, he saw Emmeline walking in the opposite direction that he was heading. There would be a point where they would cross each other, but he had other plans.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ Perhaps she could be useful -- for the first time ever. Or at least that was the case in his mind and of his opinion. As they would have just walked by each other, Ezra took the opportunity to seize her by the arm, turn her and pull her alongside with him. The door to the suspect's room was only a few feet away and once they arrived there, he let go of her arm. "You are to look at see if anyone approaches. If they do, alert me." He paused for a moment. "Subtly." With that, he unlocked the door to the room, and opened it just enough so that he could step inside.

you can run BUT YOU'LL DIE TIRED Indeed, he did not expect her to take it from his hands so when she did, it slipped right through his fingers. As if he was not already annoyed by her presence, he was even more so now for interfering with his reading. "He is not present at this time, so you have no work here then." His words spoken as if this should be the most obvious thing. But then, she indicated that the crime reports were for runners only. What a nuisance. Where he has been in this position for years, would become the magistrate one day and held experience . . . he now had to explain himself to this, woman?
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ "Is that what you are then?" He asked without even wanting an answer, for the question was meant to be rhetorical and unanswered. "Either that, or a hypocrite." Considering she was reading the reports yet she herself was not a runner. How dare she question him when he most certainly was here longer than her. Far longer. And yet now she practically demanded to know his position and withheld the article from him. He took a step towards her, intending to take it back, whether she was willing to relinquish it or not.

you can run BUT YOU'LL DIE TIRED The confidence in which she stated that she worked here, led him to believe that this was of the magistrate's doing. The only one who ultimately had the authority to hire another. Usually it was more runners but now . . . it was a woman. "That remains to be seen," he said bluntly, when she spoke of working. If she was just hired to stand there and look pretty well then, perhaps that was all the work she was good for. What exactly did she even do here?
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ He did not yet ask, knowing it would indicate he was actually interested in her duties. So long as they -- and she -- did not get in his way, then the magistrate could do whatever he wished with this new addition to the headquarters. Going over to the desk, brushing past her, he reached for one of the reports that was sitting there as she spoke of him being a runner. "Are you asking me or making a statement?" He bluntly inquired, eyes skimming over the article. "You can go," he said dismissively, not considering the fact that she may be here for the same reason he was: to meet the Magistrate.

you can run BUT YOU'LL DIE TIRED Ezra often only slept the bare minimum, requiring at most 5 hours of sleep. Fortunately, in his line of work nights required him to be active and for this, he held no complaints. He was arriving at work a tad bit earlier than usual as he had a meeting with Magistrate Robert Thorne to review recent days and the closing of a case that required concluding paperwork. Huntington was doing such more and more with Thorne, with the understanding that one day, he would take the man's place. Ezra just hoped it was not too soon for sitting within the building and having to take reports was certainly not within his preference.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ Once he entered however, he saw a young woman there . . . seemingly waiting for something. Or someone. She had something in her hand which Ezra could only presume was the latest copy of their newspaper article. But nothing explained her presence. "What are you doing here?" He immediately questioned, not bothering with pleasantries as he was direct and to the point. If she was waiting for something, she could wait somewhere else. And if she was here to make a report . . . Ezra certainly wasn't going to offer himself to take it.

Hunt will be at the event! Perhaps he and a couple others Bow Street Runners were hired to ensure all is safe and well throughout the week, so I imagine he would be there to 'work' and of course in doing so, attend all social activities. Though he will not directly participate in the games, he will be around to do his job!

.:Name:. Ezra Huntington .:Nick Name:. Hunt [this is what he is most commonly referred to] .:Rank:. Middle Class .:Age:. Early to Mid 30s
| ~ • ~ | Appearance | ~ • ~ |
.:Physical Appearance:. Hunt stands tall at 6 foot 1 with a medium to athletic build. He has light blue eyes, brown hair, and depending on his mood, may be either clean shaven or have a bit of scruff. He dresses in dark, neutral colors of well fit clothing -- refusing to wear the uniform of others in his profession so long as he can avoid it. Though as other Bow Street Runners, he does always carry a pistol, handcuffs, and a stick. He has a very strong presence about him -- which is not always a good thing, as he uses it to occasionally instill fear and intimidation into those that he interacts with mainly during his field of work. He often holds a serious expression upon his features, and does not exactly exude a welcoming, friendly nature. .:Height:. 6"1 .:Portrayed by:. Michael Fassbender
| ~ • ~ | Personality | ~ • ~ |
.:Personality:. Hunt is a man of extremely high and genius intellect. He excels in his field because he is able to logically piece things together and sometimes sees and considers things from a unique perspective and way of thinking. He was once an idealistic man, cheerful and full of joy however, circumstances drastically altered his personality and mindsets. As idealistic as he once was, is as cynical as he now is. He believes that everyone is capable of crime, inherently possessing the qualities to make them commit acts that could very well land them in prison, or worse. While he carries himself in a stoic and composed manner, he has little patience for people and is unafraid to speak his mind using brutal honesty and extreme bluntness. His methods in his profession are questionable, and the tactics he uses can be considered somewhat unethical or unconventional. He however knows how to diffuse a situation and while may not appear overly sympathetic, his natural demanour and tone of voice is composed and calm that often helps in his line of work when forced to interact with victims of a crime.
He has a natural air of authority despite being a middle classman and a strong presence about him. He uses his position and whatever means possible to intimidate and instill fear in others, so that crime may be prevented as it is the most effective rather than deal with it after the fact. He believes any crime that does not involve a murder to be petty and does not often waste his time with them -- tasking it to another -- unless he is specifically requested. Even then, he is often accompanied by another so that they may do the questioning for Hunt does not exactly possess the compassionate manner often needed in situations where there is a victim of a crime. In fact, he can appear to be quite unsympathetic to their plight, and usually observes, only interjecting if absolutely necessary.
With all this however, he is excellent at his job and has developed a strong reputation for being able to apprehend criminals and/or prevent the crime from taking place. He immerses himself in his work, lacking desire to converse with people socially. Despite this, he is well connected -- though uses these connections more for professional rather than personal reasons -- and knows that even he can not always get out of social obligations such as events he is invited to. .:Skills:. natural authority, strong and intimidating presence, skilled in combat both with and without the use of weapons permitted in his occupation [sticks and pistols], genius intellect, skilled in strategy, problem solving, and critical thinking [qualities that of course aid him in his work], excellent instincts (aids him in his work, i.e. often able to tell if someone is lying), fluent in German, well educated and possess worldly knowledge, excellent memory, resourceful and creative in his thinking [uses this to piece together clues or do what the Bow Street Runners focus on: crime prevention]. .:Weaknesses:. Often cynical and detached, and can lack personability and empathy, emotionally withdrawn, does not have personal ties to others, uses his work -- and sometimes alcohol -- to keep himself from engaging in any sort of socializing unless absolutely necessary, impatient and has little tolerance for people in general, disengaged, does not consider all cases to be important thus giving him a skewed sense of priority and justice.
| ~ • ~ | History | ~ • ~ |
.:Birthplace:. England .:Family:. Father [deceased], Mother [deceased], Wife [deceased], Child [deceased] .:Occupation:. Bow Street Runner, unofficially second in charge .:History:. Hunt was born into a loving family of a Prussian mother and English father. Both his parents were advanced in age when they had him, and due to their trouble conceiving, he was the first and only child. His father was a farmer, so Ezra grew up in the country, enjoying this way of life and helping his father from an early age. He was tutored where possible, and his mother taught him German, wanting him to have some knowledge of her own culture. Ezra's English accent therefore is minimal, as he has a bit of his mother's accent mixed in with his voice as well.
When he was ten years old, his mother passed away which left only Ezra and his father. The loss was difficult, but his father never remarried and the two of them still had each other. A few years later however, his father became very ill and required regular visits from a physician. Due to the fact that they were in the country, and the added expenses and difficulties this cause to regularly see a physician, Ezra and his father sold their home and land and used it to buy a nice house in the city. This allowed regular and consistent visits from the physician to treat Ezra's father.
Unfortunately, it was a terminal illness so despite any treatments, the outcome of death was inevitable. The physician however had become a friend and continued to visit and do what he could do make Ezra's father comfortable. The physician had a daughter who would come visit and help where she could around the house. It did not take long for Ezra and her to fall in love and soon after, marry when he was 21 years old. It was shortly after this that Ezra's father passed away and though the loss was heavy and keenly felt, Ezra had the comfort of a loving wife.
They considered moving back to the country, but with her family in the city . . . they decided to stay. At least for some time. Joyous news followed within a couple years of their marriage in that his wife was with child. Everything seemed to be falling into place and the tragic losses of both parents though always felt, did not hinder Ezra from embracing his family of heart, and soon to be child. But as happy as things felt, was how drastically they would change to the extreme opposite.
Ezra was working late at his current job at a printing facility, and once he returned home, received news that his wife was the victim of a brutal assault, and that she was murdered. Of all the losses that Huntington endured, this was the one that truly devastated him -- an accumulation of all the loved ones he had lost and he knew, that he would not be able to recover from the death of his wife and unborn child. He became a recluse for some time to follow, refusing to see anyone who came to offer their condolences. Throughout his secluded state, he continued to read The Public Hue and Cry, a newspaper organized by the Bow Street Runners, dedicated to appealing to the public to help solve crime. It was through this, that he felt he may have found purpose again.
He went to the Bow Street headquarters in the city, expressing interest in becoming one. It did not take long for his skills to be recognized, as he was accepted, trained and brought into this early form of a police force. He proved to be very capable in his work, and was tasked with more and more cases that were severe and high profile. He even occasionally traveled when requested by wealthy individuals -- nobles, and of the like, though he prefers to remain in London. Being back in the social scene did not completely pull Huntington out of his withdrawn state. His personality had changed as he became less personable, more focused on his work.
Because of his skillsets and dedication, he eventually was considered to be somewhat second in charge, his superior -- the magistrate -- a senior man who held many years of experience in this organization. While he no longer works in the field, Huntington takes over with the field work and if need be, designating those in different positions, and is even considered to be the next magistrate of this organization. Huntington is more so respected through fear, and does nothing to change this elicitation of emotions from others. He also is selective about which cases he takes on, often finding that if there was no murder involved, it is petty and thus gives it to someone else -- unless he is specifically requested.
There are some cases he can not pass off, for instance, when the Queen charges them to uncover Whistledown's identity. Huntington is well connected, and has a strong reputation -- whether good or bad -- among the town. He is a man who gets the job done, no matter the cost or questionable methods he uses. To him, the ends justify the means and will engage in whatever problematic path to get there. He is loyal to the other Bow Street Runners -- taking a leadership role among them -- and they have a loyalty to him as well.
