I'm not bound by Benedict listened to the Connor's advice, telling him that no one liked to hear another put themselves down; that it was unbecoming. He could not help but be reminded of Henry, telling him to take a compliment, constantly telling him not to be so hard on himself. Benedict was hardly offended and instead, he let out a small laugh. "Trust me Mr. Morrison, I hardly say such things to put myself down." There were aspects in his life where he was confident; and the more private ones where . . . he was not.
Striving for perfection until he was certain of his skills. It was recently as well, that he had been able to talk about it with, anyone really. Perhaps confidence in his artistic skills would come with time; but to be around such talent made it quite difficult. Though he knew now that they were not referring to his artistic capabilities. "I merely say them out of truth. That my life, is no more interesting than that of your average nobleman." Perhaps it was deep seated insecurity, Benedict was uncertain. But he did not wish to sully the mood with his own beliefs about just how . . . uninteresting he was. Especially for another nobleman.
"But never the less, I shall not deter your efforts should you still consider me an enigma." He paused for a moment, smiling with amusement as he continued. "Particularly if you have more games planned for the next party Mr. Granville hosts." Benedict was truly not used to attention, and the topic of . . . him, was unfamiliar. Not quite realizing that perhaps, this was part of the problem he -- as previously thought -- did not wish to keep the focus of conversation upon him.
"Though I am happy to answer any inquiries you may have about me. Something tells you would prefer to take a less, conventional route." A playful tease at the man, and to add to that. Benedict suddenly stopped walking, freezing in place as a curious expression crossed his features. One that was clearly feigned and exaggerated. "Wait, are we in fact friends?" The tease made clear, unable to resist the joking nature upon hearing Morrison use the word. Truth was, Benedict gladly considered him one as well.

I'm not bound by Benedict watched Connor as he turned around, moving backwards and the ease in which he did it was rather . . . impressive. Though Benedict's eyes could not help but casually keep an eye on the path to ensure that Connor did not bump into anything nor let the any unevenness in the ground cause him to stagger. Still; he was able to continue to maintain eye contact with the man as he listened to him speak of being interested in getting to know him.
◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ That . . . surprised Benedict. While he was never neglected as a child, he had been the youngest out of two sons for a good five years. And after Colin joined them, he had become the middle son for quite some time. Interest had often been towards the oldest and the youngest . . . and then when Daphne was born, ah yes, how they all had doted on her, him included as it was the first daughter. It was also perhaps how he had strayed so far from the enjoyment of such grand affairs that most of his siblings seemed to enjoy as well as the need to fulfill societal expectations.
◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ So yes. Benedict was unused to such attention nor did he feel deserving of it. The feeling of surprise ever growing when Connor added on to say that he was an enigma. Though the second son managed to keep any indication of that from his features. Perhaps, his silence left revealed it but he tried to process his words. "It is my hope to attend, yes," he confirmed. Granville had mentioned the next event and if Benedict had no other obligation and a means to escape for the night, he would most certainly be there. "But I fear you may be disappointed in your endeavor to learn more about me," he told him with an amused smile, though his words held true.
◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ "Not because I do not feel you will be successful," he quickly clarified, realizing how that sounded; as if Benedict did not wish Morrison to learn anything about him. No no. Certainly it was not that at all and he hoped he had not offended him by suggesting such a thing. "But because what you discover will hardly be . . . interesting or worthy of your efforts." That was how he had felt about himself anyway. And yet, the thought of someone considering him to be interesting, to be an enigma . . . Benedict could not help but feel flattered at that.

I'm not bound by Benedict felt it impossible for the smile to fade from his lips as the conversation progressed. Being in her company in general, made it feel impossible to cease from smiling. To cease from this enjoyment and playful nature. Ah yes. Furniture would certainly help. And upon looking around the room, it revealed that there was indeed some furniture they could have used to their advantage. Though need trumped all else; his focused being her and solely her.
◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ Though her reassurance saying that she did not mind . . . brought his mind at least a little to ease, especially when she said that he was not entirely at fault; that she shared blame. "You did your job exceptionally well," he praised her when she commented that her focus had been to find an empty room. "I feel I came up a bit short when it came to mine," he said both with jest and truth. He could have done a better job. "Though you do not mind, I hope that remains so and that your back does not disagree with you in the morning." Considerations of her comfort had not stopped him from continuing . . . though perhaps, he should have been more mindful; more aware of such things. Next time. The thought causing his smile to grow a little.
◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ When she stepped away from him, he felt the immediate deprivation of the warmth of her skin against his own. But, he also knew they could not remain here forever. Benedict paused for a moment, closing his eyes as his back was turned to her, taking a slow breath before opening them once more and turning around. "Must we?" He asked when she spoke of returning to the party, his voice once again joking . . . but once again, hold some truth. He moved towards his pants, reaching into the pocket to pull out a handkerchief to wipe himself off, then proceeding to put his shirt on and quickly buttoning the bottom few, before pulling on his pants. He watched her begin to dress, pulling at the ties on her corset.
◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ Pausing from finishing, he began to walk towards her, standing behind her. "Allow me," he offered, reaching for the laces to help pull and tie them . . . though he certainly took his time. Allowing his fingertips to purposely brush against the skin of her back were exposed from the clothing.
◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ He carefully brushed her hair to the side, leaning down to place a few light kisses on the back of her neck, his fingers able to tie the garment far too easily. The only reason he even knew how . . . was a result of what Eloise often made him do during her dress up play time when she was a child. He made her vow never to speak of it, but what could he say; he had a soft spot for his dear sister. And in this case, learning what he had presumed to be quite useless skills came in handy.

I'm not bound by Benedict had to stifle a laugh, not wanting to seem rude . . . but he could not cease the smile of amusement that formed on his lips at Connor's reaction to Benedict inquiring about living with his father. It seemed that either Connor preferred living on his own, or he and his father were not very close. And even Benedict -- as interrogative as he was being -- knew that that was far too personal of an inquiry to make. Family could very well be a sensitive issue.
◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ Upon Connor's mention of not knowing how he managed to live with such a large family . . . this time, Benedict did let out a slight laugh. He knew it was a common thought; that others did not understand how they could tolerate or endure it. "Many cannot," he admitted, normalizing the inability to comprehend. "But that is the way it has always been. I have not known anything but." Of course they had their own properties but they all preferred to stay together. Fortunately for Benedict, as the second son . . . his role wasn't particularly important. With the exception of something -- God forbid -- happening to Anthony. Other than that, he was often able to fade into the background. Even when his mother tried to interest him in marriage.
◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ After all, they were all nearing that age now weren't they. Most of them had grown up. "Though it does have it's advantages. Such as, there being enough of them for no one to take notice that I've slipped away for the night to Mr. Granville's," he said jokingly -- though with truth at the same time. Had he been the only son or with less siblings . . . perhaps it would not have been so easily for the others to be distracted.
◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ "I imagine it must be something . . . to live by oneself." Just as Connor could not fathom Benedict living with so many, so Benedict could not imagine living alone. "It seems we come from rather different backgrounds, yet find ourselves on a similar path." Literally, and well specifically the path of ending up at a place like Henry's. Neither wed -- probably for their own reasons -- and both eager to escape London society for the nights they were able.

I'm not bound by The night was fortunately pleasant -- something they had already discovered when they made way to the garden. But still. Benedict appreciated the fine whether and good company. It seemed like a splendid way to end the night. And hopefully any smell of liquor would be faded by the time he reached home.
◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ While he knew did not have to justify drinking to his family . . . he'd rather avoid the conversation all together. Benedict's gaze followed where Connor motioned and looked at the direction for a brief moment before looking at Benedict. The second son had to bite his tongue from once again questioning the convenience for Connor to walk him home.
◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ He had said that he would not bring it up again, so he quickly silenced himself and any potentially incessant as well as repetitive remarks and cause for assurances. "Is it just you and your father?" He asked, realizing he knew little of the man's personal life. A smile reforming on his lips. "Forgive my curiosity," he said, knowing that some felt it too personal to discuss family as sometimes it should just be known by the ton.

I'm not bound by Benedict's smile remained as the man commented on how if he had wished to stay here, he would have. "Then I shan't question it again," he assured him. Of course Benedict did not wish to be annoying about the entire thing. But he also wished for Connor to know that he was indeed grateful for the gesture.
◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ "Thank you. For keeping me company on the walk home," he told him. Though he had felt the gratitude he wished for Connor to know of it as well, and that despite being a nobleman -- as they both were -- Benedict did not take such things for granted. In his apparently sheltered world, he had been introduced to far more incredible things that were surpassing the distinctions between class and rank. Thoughts far too, difficult to try to explain to another. So he allowed the enjoyment of it to remain within Granville's walls. "Are you residing far from Mr. Granville's?" Benedict asked. Though he would not ask it . . . he couldn't help but wonder if he was steering Connor further from his own home.

I'm not bound by Benedict gave a nod to CONNOR as he assured him it was no inconvenience, and that he would meet him out front. With that, Benedict made his way back into the house, putting on his coat which he had removed at his easel, and also took the moment to get rid of his sketch that fortunately, was not currently being seen by anyone. He crumpled it up and as he passed by the waste bin, tossed it in. Had there been a fire burning, it would have been better.
◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ But alas, no one looked through crumpled papers . . . except for perhaps Eloise. Once that was taken care of he sought out Henry, thanking him for allowing him in his house once more. The two briefly chatted before Benedict made his leave, and went outside the front door to wait for Connor. He looked at the house, taking in the sight of it.
◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ Outwardly, it was like any other. But inside . . . it remained completely different, unexpected and . . . glorious. Seeing CONNOR exit, Benedict's smile returned as he watched the man. "Are you certain I am not pulling you from something more . . . interesting?" That was the best way he could phrase it since he wasn't entirely sure what CONNOR was up to in Mr. Granville's home.

I'm not bound by Benedict chuckled, at Connor's reaction. At least the man did not seem eager to end the game. Certainly Benedict took that as a good sign that he had not utterly failed at this new activity. Furthermore, he even offered to see him to his house, adding that he would not wish to be on the receiving end of his brother's wrath.
◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ Ah yes. Anthony. Many knew of his older brother's protective nature. Fortunately, Benedict tended to slip through the cracks, especially this season with the focus being Daphne and Connor. It suited Benedict just fine. But Morrison was indeed correct. Should Benedict return home, drunk . . . Anthony would have words with whomever permitted it. And that was a scenario Benedict wished to avoid for both their sakes. But mostly Connor's. If anyone in his family even knew that he attended parties such as this . . . Benedict hated to think of what would occur.
◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ "Apologies," he said, still with amusement. "Yes it would probably be best that we not let our first meeting, potentially be our last," he said jokingly, presuming that he would see Connor again. Even if it was just as this kind of event. Slowly raising to a stand, Benedict gaged his body's response to how much he had drank. Fortunately, it was not too bad.
◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ "I would hate to be of an inconvenience," he told him at the man's offer. "But your company would be most welcome." He liked this Connor fellow. The man amused Benedict and was good company. Benedict supposed it was just part of the enjoyment of being at these parties: meeting people like him that stepped outside the societal expectations of what was deemed 'acceptable' conversation in public.

I'm not bound by Benedict breathed out in enjoyment; a content sound where he felt so much at ease, so peaceful as she placed light touches on his skin with her lips and fingers. A comforting action, a warm sensation. "And neither of us are cruel individuals," he told her with a smile. Hearing her continue to encourage this -- them -- just added to that comfort. Able to find ease in the fact that this would not be their last time. He assumed that they would naturally find way to one another when both were in attendance at such an event again, but assuming it and being assured of it were two different things. And he need not concern himself of it not being possible or likely. No. They both desired this and thus, they would both continue to explore what formed between them. Whatever that was. Benedict felt no need to define it. It was incredible just the way it was. She was incredible.
◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ He was about to respond to her words when she added onto them, causing him instead remain silent. But there was no shock nor disagreement upon his features. Instead, his just looked at her with the same soft intent he held in this precious moments following their pleasurable actions. He knew that men took mistresses. He knew that this was how it started. He'd hear those bold enough to discuss it at clubs, and sometimes overhear such conversations during a night of gambling or at a boxing match. He even knew his brother had one. But this, this felt so incredibly different. Intention was everything and neither of them held the intention to . . . use the other.
◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ ◈
◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ They had left all title and rank at the door before entering this house. All that was left was desire. A desire between woman and man. He softly smiled, his hand returning to her cheek as he leaned forward to kiss her again, a nonverbal agreement before he would voice it so that he could diminish any doubt that he did not agree with her suggestion. Easing out of the embrace, he lightly kissed the corner of her mouth, before moving along her cheek until he reached her ear, lips pressed against it. "I would very much like that." To have another place to just be.
◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ "Perhaps somewhere with proper furniture we can use to our advantage," he said jokingly with a breath of amusement. Leaning his head back but remaining close, a playful look of realization crossed his features. "Not that I even looked around long enough to find any in this room," he sheepishly admitted. Even with the build up of their actions and removal of their clothing . . . he had only been looking at her and only her. But truth was, it would be nice to find a place of privacy that they both knew would not be as short term as well, a vacant room in a household full of people.

I'm not bound by She spoke what had entered his mind, further proving that they were indeed in sync with this. All of this. Now whether that was good or bad, Benedict hadn't the faintest idea. It was just what was, and he was enjoying it far too much to over think the repercussions. He was enjoying her far too much. The physical of course but even just . . . this. The ease in talking to her was not so easily found.
◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ To be able to communicate and tease after having known each other for so short a time. Yes. It was indeed a curious thing and Benedict was looking forward to spending more time with her. A dangerous road to go down but once again, his mind was far too at ease in the moment to consider anything potentially wrong with this. "I couldn't agree more," he told her truthfully, leaning forward to kiss deeply kiss her and allowing the kiss to linger before drawing back. He had come here to practice his sketching but it seemed he was having far more success here with her. "It would truly be a disservice to ourselves, if we do not allow the further exploration of such pleasures." Hoping it was not too forward and yet . . . he was also not overthinking every little thing he said to her.
◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ But merely, acting in the moment. Which, brought back an earlier thought: the ease and understanding between each other in what they said. "On any night such as this," he continued, brushing his lips against hers. Any night that they found themselves both here at the party. A night where they could do this behind closed doors. A night where they were given time to explore one another, and tease, and just enjoy the actions and conversations between them. Yes. Any night such as this would be thoroughly enjoyed, and anticipated in the time it was not being experienced.
◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ ◈

I'm not bound by Benedict couldn't help but be amused when Connor took a sip of his drink, this time elaborating and explaining that medical students did indeed have a reputation. Truth be told, he had not know Connor's background in too much detail. The man was right though; this was indeed a more entertaining way to get to know one another. "It certainly sounds like you've had your fair share then," he acknowledged.
◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ "These London parties must be such a bore in comparison." His voice clearly joking, just playing with the fact that Connor had lay witness to so much more. Benedict silently wondered waht that entailed. But then he spoke of his art, and he knew that the subject was not one Benedict could be as playful with. While the man held confidence in different aspects of his life, his 'talent' was not among them. He took a sip of his drink, finishing the content of what was in the glass. He didn't originally intend to give further explanation to Connor's correct assumption . . . but as the man opened up to him, perhaps it was only fair that Benedict return the favour.
◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ "Mr. Henry Granville is an artist," Benedict stated, aware that Connor knew that, but he was making a point. "For any, amateur to consider them an artist and thus placing themselves in the same category as Mr. Granville . . . is foolish and naïve." For the talent was not there. The skills were not there. He, Benedict, was not there. Before going on to the next assumption however, and aiming to divert the subject, Benedict held up his empty cup. "Is the game finished once ones cup runs dry?" He asked. He had no issue with continuing . . . however . . . "I feel I have reached my quota of drink this evening." He had several glasses before this one and the last thing he needed to do was show up at home, drunk. Anthony would not be pleased.

I'm not bound by Benedict smiled, her words making him feel rather . . . proud. Honored perhaps. And not honor in the way that he was expected to exercise honor as a Bridgerton. No. He was fairly certain his family would not approve of this, but he was quickly learning that those of another class, did not make them any less worthy. And that rank, did not define a person. Yet it was not something he dare speak to them out of risk of exposing his personal affairs that were reinforcing this belief.
◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ "Music to any man's ears," he responded. "To know that one can please such a woman." His voice holding praise for her; surpassing beauty and well, just her. There was after all, something about her that drew him. Continuing to enjoy the her hands upon him, and not entirely certain if he ready to part from it . . . he was glad for the touches that followed. The deep kiss to which he immediately respond by parting his lips to offer her more access to him. Slow, draw out, and perhaps a bit too intimate considering they had already sated that burning need.
◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ There should be no more reason for it . . . but for them, there seemed to be every reason for it. And feeling this from her reassured his uncertain mind that it was not only him; that it was not one sided on his part. "Well then, that works out quite nicely does it not." Teasing words, playful remarks . . . it came with far too much ease between them and Benedict enjoyed every single one. There was also this, unspoken understanding and high probability . . . that this would not be the last time they found themselves in each other's company.

I'm not bound by Benedict was slowly coming off that high, feeling her legs lower from his waist and immediately missing the warmth of them. He stood up a little straighter, drawing his head back only enough so that he could look at her. Eyes heavily lidded from the intense pleasure caused by their actions, and a soft smile upon his lips. One that came with so much ease and remained after her playful comment.
◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ "Then it gladdens me, that I can continue to please you," he told her with the same flirtation and playfulness in his voice, unable to resist leaning in to kiss her lips once more. Drawing back, she cupped his cheek and offered him further compliment, speaking of it being nice to see him in these parts. His hand moved to a stand of her curly hair that loosely fell around her, coiling it around his finger while the fingers of his other hand gently caressed her bare shoulder.
◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ "The feeling is mutual," he told her. He took the words as quite the compliment, reflecting on her initial reaction to seeing him here. While it was not unkind or unwelcoming, it was easy to see the shock in her voice and expression when seeing a Bridgerton at a party such as this. "I find myself entranced by them, or more so by those present." His tone fully indicating that he was referring to her specifically. He had not recognized her the first time he saw her but now . . . he would be able to easily find her in a large crowd.
