That there was no injury that would compromise her speech or thought as she was able to promptly respond. Then came her attempt to stand. Benedict remained near, rising to a stand as she did, staying close in case she required support. He carefully watched to see where she shifted most of her body weight -- presumably on the uninjured foot.

How could he in good conscience send her out when she may not be able to even walk with ease? "Maybe not," he told her, knowing he could not exactly argue with her regarding her pain. He could not actually know whether it hurt or not -- but rather, merely assume. Besides, he did not wish to argue nor tell her what she should do or how she should feel.

"But perhaps we should allow a doctor to take a look nevertheless?" He asked, rather than demanded. "It would be safest." To have it checked rather than wait for the injury could grow worse. "Would you permit me to assist you to the drawing room?" If she was in agreement -- the latter words unspoken though hopefully understood. Despite her being of a lower rank, he was still a gentleman and would not touch a woman -- even in attempt to help -- without them granting him permission.

It would look far less awkward to sit among them than to carry a conversation standing. Relief was also found in the fact that he was not imposing his company onto them. Listening intently to him explain his preference for the country, Benedict felt for the man who received such an injury while serving his country. "I am quite sorry to hear of its inconveniences and the pain it may cause with your injury." Sincere words, yet not overly sympathetic for Benedict knew that not all men desired such sympathies. And he'd much rather not cause such offense.

"What brings you to the city then?" He wondered with a soft smile. Upon the introduction of the other man, Benedict's eyes met his, as his smile remained in place. "A pleasure, as I do not believe we have yet been acquainted." Benedict did not frequent White's as much as his older brother did. Benedict's smile brightened at the reveal that they had known each other since they were young. "That is quite wonderful to hear, that you kept such a close bond. I imagine the challenges found in serving were more bearable with such support. Practically like brothers, I would imagine," he added on with a continued smile.

Losing their father had taken a toll on all of them but the love that they had for one another, kept them going. Kept them thriving. His heart truly broke for his dear sister, knowing . . . seeing how much she loved John and how much he loved her. Something that any brother would be proud to see, and wished for when it came to his sister's happiness. Benedict dare not even imagine what it would be like to lose Sophie . . . so the thought of Francesca losing her love, was too difficult to bear. Yet, the harsh reality that she was now faced with.

Arriving at their family home he quickly greeted his mother, seeing the toll it had taken on her as well, before immediately making his way to Francesca's room. He didn't care to freshen up, to rest, to eat. Necessity to see his mourning sister trumped all else. Lightly knocking at the slight ajar door, he gently opened it to check and see if she was sleeping. "Frannie?" He questioned in a soft, quiet voice. Barley audible, but meant for her ears only. He knew that there was nothing he could say in this moment to make it better, and if she desired to be alone . . . he would of course respect that. He just knew he had to see her, that he needed to be here for her, in whatever way she needed him to be.
