“Oh, yes, my condolences,” she said with a small frown. At this point, it was getting to be too long to mourn for a man who she was promised to for such a short time. She believed in love at first sight but Arthur? Yes, he was impressive in name and title with substantial wealth so long as his eldest brother succumbed to an early death. She didn’t strike him as a man of passion, and for so long she had allowed herself to simply think this was a perplexing riddle that was none of her business. Let love be, but when he died, her friend didn’t seem to be bothered for as long as her black clothing would imply. “We need to get you new dresses as well if you haven't already,” she added with the thought.
“My dear something has begun troubling me,” she sat down gently on the delicate couch and tried to find a tactful way to accuse her friend of violating the sanctity of courtship. “You knew Arthur was being sent to the front, Elizabeth. You knew before the first promenade—which was terrible by the way he walked like a chicken—“ when she started she couldn’t stop, it was a flaw. “I just don’t understand how you can be reserved for this season as well! We can do it together; it’s fate! Arthur was dull, God rest his soul—“ she paused a moment before moving on. “It is time for us to find you someone who you can laugh with—or at least be very, very rich with.”
She set down her book and did not dare look up to see her reaction. She still hadn’t addressed the true fear that she’d arranged it by telling her. She could never keep her mouth shut.

Her suspicions be damned, it was brilliant to see her friend. There was a part of her that thrilled, rising with joy that she fought to contain every time she saw someone she enjoyed without the supervision of her mother. ”Tea sounds lovely,” she replied with a smile. Her responding nod as she held up her book was quick and confident. She had been doing research with her mother and younger brother. Each of the bachelors she had something on. Within reason. ”I have been well; eager, perhaps. The sooner I am wed the sooner my mother will let me have a little independence. Did you know that you’re one of the only people in this entire Country I may visit without her?”
She followed closely to the drawing room and pulled the ribbon to her bonnet free. As she sat down, she set it aside gingerly and placed her book on the table. ”I have been preparing. My mother wants me to try to make a good impression. If not for her, I feel like I would have,” it had been a long time since she’d had a friend to talk to. Her delayed season had left her a lot of time to watch Elizabeth.
”I’ve brought some information on some eligible bachelors—I thought we could look at them together. You’re going to be partaking in the social season after all—Right?” She looked up from her book to meet her eyes, expecting an answer. She was young, beautiful and had a responsibility. Surely she was finished mourning at this point. It had been so long ago.

Caroline had arrived early in the afternoon with her Lady's Maid close behind her, along with a small entourage of escorts. As the carriage rolled towards the estate, rocking on the cobblestone, she was still thinking of good matches for her nearly widowed friend. To agree to marry a man bound for war was so risky it bordered on stupidity. Caroline had been willing to overlook it, in case it was a match made out of love. Her willingness to accept this fact made her blind to one of her dearest friend's apathy. There was plenty of time for a lady to think, however. Especially when her friend refused invitations. So, Caroline had arrived at Elizabeth's home instead with confections and a list of potential suitors she'd deemed unacceptable for herself. Put that way, she realized that wasn't very kind. It was meant with the best of intentions. Her mother would have weeded them out.
She approached the door and knocked. Somehow she managed to keep her irritation from being ignored from the ferocity of the knock. Her maid was prompt.
"Good day," Caroline said with a small smile as the maid bowed. "Is Lady Davenport in?" she held her books close, as though she were academic when in truth it was gossip and notes. She needed her friend to help her with the social season. More importantly, she needed to end her mourning and move forward. She had to have known that the death of her fiance was a possible, if not likely event. Of course, she would never be so insensitive out loud. She even felt terrible thinking it. The thought that she had intentionally agreed to marry a man destined to die simply to skip the season was enough to make Caroline quite irritated. "I don't mind waiting in the drawing-room!" This time she called out in hopes he friend would hear her.

❀ Caroline’s answering smile was legitimate, which must have been enough to satisfy her mother. She was thankful that her temporary lapse in creativity wasn’t answered with irritation. Some of the men looked at the debutantes as though they were porcelain dolls bound to a tight script. Breaking the illusion was simply too much for them to bear. She would not be able to be with such a man, but the wrong one would sour her reputation. There were many things to consider, but the relief she felt was clear. “Words cannot express my appreciation, My Lord,” she said with a wide smile and as many words as possible to satisfy those harsh blue eyes. “Though I do believe that if I had known I would be addressing a Bridgerton with more time to prepare I would have charmed you with ease,” she jested as she let her eyes wander over the flowers for a moment.
“I am sure that you have heard some creative attempts. How many have grown,” she paused, gently fanning herself as her heel rolled back just a little. “Ever so faint in your presence?” How she loved watching the season. Her mother’s pressure ruined any chance of her finding something for herself. Watching others however; that was exciting. The desperation in the air was palpable and smell of perfume was everywhere. “If it please you, My Lord, may we take a short walk away from a particular set of prying eyes?” she tiled her head, gesturing towards her mother. There was no way she would be able to escape her without a good reason. Her maid stood close by, ready to accompany her.

❀ It would be the first time that Caroline had been to Aubrey Hall since her debut. The last time she'd been here, she felt it had to have been years and years. She could only vaguely recall. Instead of being able to pose her questions about the estate on the way, her mother was too busy filling the silence with constant chatter. Who would be there and who she should talk to. There were many who were said to be attending, and she was to be prepared. Of course, how did that differ from any social occasion these days? Caroline focused on breathing, slowly, in and out to avoid a nervous flush. The last thing she needed was that itchy powder all over her chest. It was a difficult thing to maintain serenity in the face of chaos chattering away at her about the eligible bachelors-- who was still on the market. The conversation did not cease even as they drew close.
"Mama please; if you knew half the things the maids told me you wouldn't be chattering away like a parrot in front of the servants," she practically snapped at her mother, earning a gaze that could only described as shocked. Caroline rarely said anything to shut her mother up, but it didn't last long. Her gaze shifted to the party guests socializing and Caroline followed it. "Which unfortunate soul is my target, mama?" she asked playfully. Her mother shot her a glare before looking back at the collection of attendees. Though she was kidding, her mother looked like a predator.
"The Bridgerton boy is alone. Anthony," there was a glimmer in her eye, as a Bridgerton was a prize indeed. She practically pushed Caroline. "He won't be alone for long Caroline. Go make your introductions," To maintain some distance she was always all too happy to oblige these mandatory introductions.
"Hello," Caroline gently spoke as she approached him. The gardens were busy with activity and the smell of sweets. If her mother weren't watching and judging her performance as though it were an art, it would have been a lovely place for an introduction. "The party is lovely, it's a pleasure to see you and your family." She cast a quick glance towards her mother. "I find myself under a great deal of pressure to say something clever so that my mother believes I am charming you," she offered a smile still, mildly distracted by the smell of passing hors d'oeuvres. It really was a lovely party, but this conversation was reaching high. [/font] [/div][/div] ulla [/div][/div]

❀ “You need to give me the courtesy of allowing me to inspect you before showing up at events. Last night cannot ever happen again,” Even over the bumpy road and the heavy hooves it was Caroline’s mothers voice that truly droned on about how disrespectful it was to leave an event early. Her persistence was enough to give her the worst headache, but the same could be said for all mama’s this season. It was especially competitive. As the carriage slowed at the edge of the park, it was made absolutely clear what a warzone this was. Where once she would have seen polite conversation and the occasional romantic promenade, she now saw how feral these mothers were as they obsessively primped their daughters and pointed out eligible bachelors.
“Mother stop gawking at those men. What would people say?” Nothing, probably. No one was talking about her Debut, the daughter of a Marquess received so little a reaction from her Majesty. Even with a generous dowry she managed to hook only the lowest hanging fruit. Caroline rolled her eyes and tossed open the door before anything could be said on the subject. She needed to take air in a way her mother wouldn’t chastise. Besides, she saw familiar faces.
The benefit of hosting extravagant parties was meeting the high ranking members of society. It was best to network, and even better to entertain. She was thankful for it now, as instead of looking at a sea of unknown faces there were some that popped out like stars in the dark. “It is exciting to be here.” She spent so little time in London, but all of that was about to change. Well, so long as she could find a match in this pit of beautiful vipers.

| THE MAID
Caroline has had the same Lady's Maid for the last eight years. She is her best friend, knows all and is incredibly loyal. Her loyalty to Caroline is not rivaled by her father; she is no stranger to keeping Caroline's secrets. Everything about her is open! She has travelled with Caroline everywhere. Caroline adores her, but would be devastated to lose her. |
| The Eldest
The oldest brother will inherit Lancaster House and the title of Earl. He's been raised to be an heir, with heavy scrutiny from both sets of parents. He was often far too busy to play with his siblings. - Close to all family, protective, responsible.
|
| The Black Sheep
Since he became an adult, he's rarely around if it isn't a major event. When he is, he brings with him a new woman on his arm every time. He's always been a troublemaker to the point that some think he's doing it intentionally to get a rise from the people around him. Maybe he is. - "Close" to family, always teases them.
|
| The Darling Boy;
He is not only the youngest, but he is the most considerate and thoughtful of the bunch. While Caroline watches for actions and gossip, he observes for emotional state and has more empathy than most. He is without a doubt the favorite, and after his older brother he was a relief to his parents. He faces very little responsibility. -- Very Close to Caroline, often checks her if she is being unkind. Close to all family. |

caroline seymour ! Having her debut delayed for a year had caused some rumors; as she’d already had her dress ordered and prepared for the occasion. Caroline’s absence during last years social season was noted, but there is a hope that it will be ignored now. What was thought to be a runaway relationship, a secret pregnancy or family strife will hopefully be quelled. Truthfully, it was a stress induced flash of hives. Nothing more.
Caroline would have delayed the debut longer if she could, as the year she lay in wait she learned quite a bit. There was little to do other than gossip in her splendid palace in Lancaster. Her mother entertained guests frequently, and she learned much from them. Between her mother’s babbling hens and Lady Whistledown Caroline is constantly surrounded by rumors with antagonistic intent.
She is good natured and kind, but her environment has turned her unknowingly judgmental and cruel.
friendships Lancaster House has had its fair share of holiday feasts, parties and celebrations. It’s far from the heart of the social season; a long carriage ride that would take the better half of the day. However, the festivities thrown were magnificent, and worth the travel. From here, Caroline has had loads of time where she could have met OCs or Canons alike. With friends, she enjoys joking around about the gossip, or playful stories she cooks up while spying on others. This can be a deterrent for some, but exciting with others.
True friends can tell her when she has crossed any lines. Truthfully, having freedom for the first time has given her a lot of new responsibility. Before, she had only her mother to educate her, but being out in society has given her a slew of new ideas and opinions. Learning about others and developing her loyalty would be exciting for her! Or alternatively, crashing it down.
hateships Because of her loud, impulsive and tactless mouth Caroline is known to make enemies. She fights it, but it always happens—she says the wrong thing and suddenly a group of young women think she’s a social pariah. Her recoveries are usually taken care of by her mother through a party or a good word. She can be unforgiving over little slights. Though she rarely intends to make an enemy, she can be petty and dramatic over little conflicts which makes her, at times, difficult to work with. relationships Coming SOON!! .:Name:. Caroline Elizabeth Seymour .:Nick Name:. .:Rank:. Noble .:Age:. Nineteen
| ~ • ~ | Appearance | ~ • ~ |
.:Physical Appearance:. Caroline has developed into a fair young woman, albeit a bit too short in stature. She spends ages on her appearance, and is always sure to be wearing the latest fashions. Every night she ties her hair into numerous curls for the morning after. Her maid Anne is very well versed in the best, newest trends and is not afraid to add her own twists. Caroline trusts her decisions with her life, as by herself she would be hopeless. Her fine hair is blonde and difficult to manage without help. The slightest hint of moisture can destroy any decent hairstyle if it isn’t pinned down every which way. For this reason, she stays inside, unintentionally maintaining an especially pale completion. Without her parasol, a brief promenade risks a sunburn without intervention.
Though Caroline looks like her mother in many ways, her deep brown eyes are attributed to her father. She keeps herself composed and is rarely seen feeling too excitable. Her mother spent a lot of time educating her on the art of etiquette, giving her good posture—so long as her mother is watching. Even her reserved emotional state can give way under the right circumstances; usually a lack of supervision.
.:Height:. 5" .:Portrayed by:. Anya Taylor Joy

.:Personality:. Caroline has not spent a lot of time in London, but she has spent her life preparing for it. After being born being multiple boys, she knew from a very young age that becoming a bride was the only way she would ever gain any meaning, or power. Despite fortunate means, she’s always been insecure about her wealth. If she couldn’t fix her frizzy hair, or lose weight she would be stuck with a man of low means or a few extra decades of experience. Needless to say it has been an effective, but emotionally draining motivator. Because of this, she is unintentionally judgemental and more than a little tuned into the situation around her. She has an ear for gossip, which has always pooled in during the lunch parties her mother would throw during the summer months.
She is very excited to be facing her first season, after so many years of preparation and playing to her strengths she is ready. Unfortunately, the competitive nature she’s been trained to have has made the process twist her into a mess of sharp emotions constantly threatening to shatter her mask of poise. Jealousy is a new and volatile companion, but Caroline has never had a truly bad intention. She is kind hearted, but still—she is not known for thinking first when matters of the heart are concerned.

| ~ • ~ | History | ~ • ~ |
.:Birthplace:. Lancaster, England .:Family:. Lord Philip Seymour, Earl of Lancaster & Lady Elizabeth Seymour .:Occupation:. Unemployed, Future Wife and Mother .:History:. Caroline grew up on a beautiful estate surrounded by family. She lived with her mother, father, three older brothers and her grandparents. Later joined by another brother, and a family dog. It was a charmed life, with plenty of time to play in the beautiful gardens and woodland around their estate. Had it not been for the constant, unyielding pressure to conform into the mold of an ideal match, the childhood would have been the picture of perfection. Of course, few have an entirely flawless childhood. It would make for a hopeless idealist in the future with a very romantic vision of what a happy household is. Still, she wouldn’t change her past for the world. Her teenage years were when things began to get more difficult.
To motivate Caroline, her mother brought her to visit multiple cousins and family friends who lived without husbands or children. It was an effective way to scare her into compliance and put an end to her innocent childish years. All of the children received a good education with a shrewd faced tutor who saw them four days a week. While her brothers played outside, eventually hunting and gallivanting, Caroline spent extra time learning the arts of household management and etiquette. She was trained to find a husband and never felt as though she was doing enough to better herself, or make that happen. Over time, she developed nervous ticks that grew more insistent over time. She would chew her nails, pick at her skin or hangnails, only stopped by a quick slap on the hand from her mother. Knowing that her uncontrollable habits were unattractive only made her grow more anxious.
At the age of fifteen she lost both of her grandparents, which forever altered the air in the home. Instead of joy from her carefree brothers, her at times proud mother and her optimist of a father, there was a new silence. It was a difficult year, but one that had been delayed for over a decade—which she would hear many times over the next three years. Her mother only grew more demanding as her debut came closer, which surely did not help. Before her debut, Caroline was cursed with nervous hives that only got worse. It was a great disappointment and has soured the season. Her brothers are finding brides, but her mother has crushed Caroline’s confidence. They delayed her debut for a year due to the unfortunate breakout. This enraged her mother, and by affiliation it upset her father too. In a home ramped up with toxicity, she's learned to be rather judgemental for the sake of her own image. She isn't proud of it, but it's a subconscious trait. Where there were once family games and laughs, there is gossip pouring from smug, sneering lips. She isn't the naive, wide eyed girl that stared at the oncoming moment with horror. This year she's far more prepared.
