It is a major culture shock being in The Ton, especially for someone not used to being on the other side of the suit -- so to speak. Jim (please remember that your name is now Jim) had been used to dressing lords, not being one. He thinks, however, that he has a good enough idea to play the role perfectly. Some young women who flock to him for attention help solidify that. He's lucky that he has a pretty face, and his accent is mysterious enough to attract curiosity. He can see the look of disdain in their parents faces, and already he has been thwarted in courting some potential brides because of his bastard status.
Ugh. If only he could have concocted a different story, but being a bastard was the only way to sell it best.
Still, he is not deterred. He has decent coin now from selling off a good percentage his father's land. If Jim has his way, he won't have to step into Scotland ever again. He's taken to London well, especially downtown, where he can gamble and enjoy himself like he did back home. All he needs to do is secure a sizable dowry, and he would be set for life. He's got this.
No pressure.
Jim spots her from across the room with her incredibly detailed hairstyle and matching dress. Cressida Cowper, he recalls. Lord Cowper has a sizable estate, and certainly Miss Cowper's dowry would be quite. . . agreeable. Yes, she would do nicely. At least for a dance. Jim approaches her, smiling at her, those baby blues gazing upon her with manufactured reverence. "Miss Cowper," he greets with a nod of his head. "I would be honored if you could fit me in for a dance later this evening."

SHE SAID YES? Jim tries to keep his cool, that charming smile never leaving his face. "You honor me, your highness." He says warmly, bowing before extending his hand once more. "Lord Scott," he answers. "Ca -- " Oh, why don't you go and blow the whole damn thing right away, Callum? "Can I just say," good recovery, "you look absolutely beautiful tonight." He moves to lead her toward the dance floor. "I must admit, I'm a bit new at all of this. My mother isn't of high birth, and my father had no other heirs. . . so I have recently be legitimized. My sincerest apologies if I'm not quite... proper, your highness. I almost just suggested you call me Jim!" A pause, and he glances back at her. "But, you could, if you chose... I may also need some help dancing." He chuckles. "I promise, however, to show you a good time."Tag: Princess Charlotte

SHIT. Jim looks up at her with a horrified gaze as he's caught. At least his hand wasn't in his trousers. That would have been a nightmare. He looks up at her, flushed from his ears down to under his collar. Every inch of him is trembling with need at this point. He's at a loss for words at first, but she mentions the word oral, and his mind sinks into the abyss. How lovely her mouth would feel against his hot skin right now. "I -- I -- " He stammers. He takes a moment and swallows. "Y -- Yes. I need some -- help." He squeezes his eyes shut. Oh, this is so embarrassing.
"I -- can repay you." He swallows, and he squeezes his legs shut. He needs to feel her in some way. All he can think about is having her against him. "Please, I need it now. Please." His eyes go to her lips.

12. My muse has been drugged with a aphrodisiac and is in a haze, needing release. SOMETHING HAD BEEN IN HIS DRINK. Jim doesn't know what, but he looks around with slightly widened eyes as the warmth starts bubbling through his body. He tugs at his collar, breathing growing heavier with each moment that passes. Is he sweating? And then he feels the need start to settle and turns away from the ballroom. Oh, goodness. He's not opposed to feeling like this, but why now? What was in his drink? His body continues to grow hotter as he hurries toward the door; he needs to get outside. Maybe if he's outside, the feeling will pass with fresh air.
He needs to touch himself. But he can't! He's at a bloody party! Did everyone else feel this way? Was this some -- noble orgy? Jim looks around nervously before going toward the gardens. Someone might be able to see him, but he -- he needs --
Jim sinks down to the ground, hiding himself with bushes. He can't focus on anything else; he needs to touch himself. He needs to. And he's moving to rub his hand over the forming erection between his legs. A moan escapes Jim's mouth, and he sinks his head in shame as he continues to rub. . . Anyone could find him like this. Anyone at all.

DOES JIM STICK OUT LIKE A SORE THUMB? Perhaps. The Scotsman stands awkwardly on the edges of the dance floor, eyes scanning across different dancing couples. He's taking note of the ones he knows. It has been a game for him; learning the peerage of Great Britain was like memorizing the spoons and forks he needed to put down on the former earl's dining table -- even when he dined alone? The opulence in this ballroom alone was worth more than that abbey. Jim has never seen such -- what's the word? Extravagance? He is gobsmacked, really. And he risks losing all that he's worked for if he doesn't successfully insert himself into the Ton. Jim's eyes focus on perhaps the brightest gem at this ball. Princess Charlotte of Wales, the Queen's daughter. . . if he could get into the royal family, he would be set for life. No one would question his lineage again. It had been so easy to take over the earldom -- almost too easy! And now he can use that same charm to woo a bride. Or, perhaps, a princess. Boldly, Jim weaves through others to approach the princess. He bows, and then he extends his hand. "Princess Charlotte, your highness." His accent isn't perfect -- but that's what he gets for being the bastard son. "May I have the honor of a dance with you?" Tagging: Princess Charlotte

.:Birthplace:. Ettrick, Scotland .:Family:. Henry Scott, 4th Earl of Deloraine (“father”, deceased); Unnamed Mother (“deceased”)
Finlay Payne (father, deceased); Deirdre Payne (mother, deceased) .:Occupation:. “5th Earl of Deloraine” .:History:.
Callum Payne was born on May 27, 1787, to farmers Finlay and Deirdre Payne in Ettrick, Scotland. It was a very quaint life in the village of Ettick, and when Callum was fourteen, his parents managed to get him into service for the 4th Earl of Deloraine as a hallboy. They wanted a better life for their son, and putting him into service is how they believed they could. It was a respectable job to be working for an earl.
While in service, Callum learned how to read and write, and he studied the earl as he hosted guests and attended to his duties. Henry Scott, the 4th Earl of Deloraine, did not treat him with kindness, but he tolerated Callum and admired his eagerness. The butler eventually promoted Callum to a valet, and the young Scotsman concocted a plan as the earl took ill. Henry was not a well man toward the end, and Callum managed to convince Henry to write a letter. . . a letter claiming that Callum was Henry’s bastard son “James” with an unnamed woman. Since he had no living heir, he wrote in the letter that he would leave his title and lands to his illegitimate son… who he legitimized upon his death.
Henry Scott died soon after in 1807. Many believed the earldom would die with him, but then the mysterious James Scott inherited his title. James fired the staff and hired some new faces who would believe his farce. He managed to forge his own birth records, formulating this whole plot to ingrain himself into the aristocracy. It was not an easy process, but Callum’s parents were already dead by that point – so he could erase all trace of himself as Callum Payne. He died with his parents, and only James Scott remained.
Over the last 5 years, James Scott joined high society. He sold off lands to another earl, and his only focus now is to secure his position by marrying a woman from a wealthy family. He doesn’t care about love; he just cares about himself. Now, during the newest season, the handsome young “earl” is a sought after bachelor. . . with his mysterious past and intrigue. Though others remain unconvinced that he belongs among them considering his blood status as an “illegitimate son.” James just hopes that they don’t find out the truth before he finds his bride… and having this Lady Whistledown starting rumors complicates things tremendously.
Note: Your character will not know that James is a con man unless explicitly plotted out beforehand.
