I'm not bound by 47. My muse comes to yours after being assaulted.
β β β β β Benedict had been invited to a party by a friend of Henry's. It was, the sort of party that Henry hosted and as it was through a mutual friend -- where Mr. Granville would also be in attendance -- Benedict was inclined to accept the invitation. It was however, in a part of town he did not frequent often. Well on the other side and not quite where those of higher rank resided. Benedict cared little for such things, as he did not judge one based on their class. Such was clear by the company that he kept in recent days. The party had been quite enjoyable, Benedict relishing in the freedoms that came at such events. He had lost track of the late hour and once realized, thanked the host and bid farewell.
β β β β β That was the last clear thing he remembered. Walking home, and suddenly being surrounded by a group of men. Dark figures that he could not made out in the poorly lit area. And then, there was darkness. By the time Benedict opened his eyes, he felt the throbbing of his body and tasted blood in his mouth. Groaning he attempted to sit up, unable to see his face but judging from the blood in his mouth and the pain throbbing throughout his face, at his eye and jaw . . . there were bruises. The upright position also caused a pain in his chest, putting his hand on it and slightly wincing at the sensitivity of the touch. It was however here that he noticed his wallet was missing, as well as his stop watch and well, anything else of value.
β β β β β The walk home had been utterly painful, but he had little other choice. He never thought he'd be so happy to see his home, although he did not go in right away. He needed to sit first, and regain himself. With any luck, everyone would be asleep and he would not have to face his brothers or mother in this state. Marks upon his face of a clear assault and torn clothing to further reveal it. If anywhere else on his body was injured, whatever adrenaline prompted him to reach home safely, was numbing it, though he felt his head starting to ache and his body start to weaken. He made his way to the backyard, staggering through the path as he planned to sit on the swing . . . only to see Eloise in the near distance.
β β β β β He could tell by the way her body tensed and the quick dropping of the cigarette that she had already heard him though evidently knowing it was not him based on her reaction n. He closed his eyes for a moment, not wanting her to see him like this. Never wanting her to see him in such a state of disarray and dishevelment. But . . . perhaps she could help him. He trusted her of course, and well, what other choice did he have. "It's just me," he assured her, stepping closer to her and hoping that the darkness helped hide most of the injuries he'd sustained.

At this point, it was an unhealthy coping mechanism. There was not a chance that she would be ready to greet, or rather turn away the horrid suitors after they had a biscuit and a cup of tea when or if they called in the morning. There was something both soothing and inspiring about being out on the swings with a cigarette in one hand and her writing quill in the other. These days, the only moments when she could fully write was in the middle of the night, two or three hours after whatever ball she had been forced to attend. Then she could continue to write until she felt as though there were no other words that she could fit on her page and nothing else that was hiding in her mind. If her older brother had joined her, then there would be conversation but other than that it was silent. Some days it was nice, but others, like today, when she wanted nothing more than to ramble, it was hard. She wanted her brother to be there, yes, but he was the very last person that she imagined showing up as she saw the shadow in the distance. Part of her was half tempted to scream for a servant or perhaps one of her brothers, even if it would give away her secret. All of it would have been worth it if it would have meant that she was alright of course, but everything stopped, including her heart as he came closer but stopped just a little bit short of the light in shadow. Confusion filled her brow as she moved to a stand, trying to figure out what exactly was wrong. For a long moment, she only stared at him, waiting for him to get closer as she reached to pull out another cigarette for the both of them. βI wish you would have said so sooner. I would not have been so alarmed if you would have called out- and if I had well then our secret would have been out.β Him disappearing places in the middle of the night and the both of them hiding out here. That was the very last thing that she knew she wanted and assumed the same for her brother. She did not look to him just yet though, pressing her newly lit cigarette to her lip and moving to light one and hand it over to him, waiting a moment before turning to look at him, shocked and worry once again filling her as she stared at him, mouth gaping just a little. βBenedictβ¦β She had to move to grab the cigarette from her own lips quickly, moving to grab it before it joined the other on the ground after shutting her notebook and lowering it, patting the other swing eagerly, hoping that getting him off of his feet would help. Heavens she did not know what to do, how to help, but she knew that she had to. More than that she had to. Certainly there had to be something obvious that she could do to help and smoking would not be of help. βWhat the bloody- what happened?β A pause. "What hurts?"Tag ~ Benedict Bridgerton ~ Note : This! Is perfect! And like always with them I am EMotional. Poor Benedict

I'm not bound by Benedict slightly shook his head when she offered him the cigarette, but looking at him . . . alerted her to his state. He hated that his sister saw him like this, but at the same time, felt safe in her presence. He moved to the spot that she patted, joining her on the adjacent swing.
β β β β β He found instant relief off his feet, slightly wincing from the shift in movement due to the throbbing of his chest -- most likely his ribs. She asked him what hurt, and he did not wish to alarm her any further. "Apart from my pride?" He asked, in attempt to joke, to lighten the mood and assure her he was fine, or would be fine. "It shall pass," he assured her, hoping that by morning he would be able to take something to ease the pain and thus, be functional.
β β β β β Wiping a bit of the blood from the sleeve of his coat, his tongue running along the inside of his cheek to see the sensitivity of it, he then continued to explain. "It was a mugging," he revealed. "Are all others asleep? I do not wish for them to see me like this." He knew it was inevitable but at least for tonight, he did not want to alarm nor worry anyone. It was bad enough he had caused this . . . distress to Eloise.

Though it was very clear to her that he was joking, no laughter left her mouth as she instead further examined him, looking at his injuries, for something, anything to do, her mind almost instantly thinking of the worst possibilities ( after seeing their father before heβ¦ it was something she often could not stop herself rom doing in moments of worry ). She was glad that she was awake, able to monitor him and able to run inside should anything happen and he needed medical assistance that she was not capable of providing. βA mugging? Benedictβ¦ Did they take anything? β Dark eyes widened in further concern as she shifted uncomfortably in her seat, fighting the urge to run inside and tell their mother here and now. She did as he asked, though, grabbing the rope on the swing instead of smoking, trying to calm herself by fiddling with the rope between her fingers. Her eyes moved to scan their home, almost as though she was checking herself though she already knew the answer herself. " They were asleep before I headed outside, so I believe you are in the clear. " Still, she could never be sure, having been in such a rush to get away and sit in the night air to focus that she did not truly think. " Brother... did you see a face? Is there something that we can report or something? Where all are you hurt? " She had never been one to just sit still and do nothing. She wanted to jump in and do something. She had to. She just... didn't know where to start, never really seeing anything like this, nor expecting it. " Are you certain you are okay? " Tag ~ Benedict Bridgerton ~ Note : She is SO WORRIED and ready to FIGHT someone. But YES all the feels are making me SO EMOTIONAL

I'm not bound by Oh how he truly hated to worry Eloise with this. Had his own lodgings not been too far on foot, he would have gone there instead of coming here. Not wanting to lie to her, but also not wishing to worry her any more than he had already done, he tried to quickly determine how best to respond. "Nothing of great importance or sentiment." Some money. His silver pocketwatch. It was all material and replaceable.
β β β β β He supposed that in that regard, he was quite fortunate. If it resulted in walking away with these injuries, then he should perhaps count himself lucky. He nodded in acknowledgement and relief when she said that they were all sleeping. "I may remain at my own lodging until these wounds heal." It would not be terribly uncommon for him to be gone for the night or to spend some time at his own residence. It was better than causing distress among his mother and anyone else. "It will hopefully only be a matter of a few days." For he also knew that it was only so long that he could get away with avoiding a ball or other grand event during the season.
β β β β β Leaning over, trying to fight the pain from appearing on his features from the movement, he reached for the cigarette from Eloise, taking a slow puff of it as she spoke. "Unfortunately, I did not see a face. They were well concealed." All the more reason they probably left him alive. "I am uncertain if there is a need to report this. I do not feel as if I have any helpful information to offer." The less of an issue they made this, the better.
β β β β β When she asked where he was hurt, he turned to her, offering a small smile. With his free hand, he reached over and covered hers as it gripped the swing. "I am alright," he told her softly. "It will just take time to heal," he assured, handing her back the cigarette. If he did indeed have a cracked rib as he suspected -- though he was no doctor -- then perhaps a bit longer than he anticipated. "I am sorry to have caused you worry," he added.
