I'm not bound by Why they had to travel so far for a damn ball, Benedict would never understand. It was quite far away to be worth what it was and the only fortunate thing about it . . . was that he and Eloise had managed to get away. The others would undoubtedly stay far letter but Benedict and his sister had been prepared to leave. This was one of the many reasons he adored his younger sister; she was often of a similar mind as he. So alas, they were on the long journey back to the house, early enough in the night that Benedict hoped to see his sister safely home and then perhaps attend his own kind of party.
◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ He was just relieved that they escaped the mind numbingly dull event that was apparently the talk of the ton. Benedict was peeking out the window, trying to familiarize himself with where they were though this area was rather unrecognizable. "How far did we stray for a mere party?" He thought out loud; the question rhetorical but he welcomed any answer from Eloise who sat across him. It was not but a moment after that the carriage jolted, tilting to one side abruptly causing them both to slide to one end, before it jolted again, stumbling on the ground from the other side, causing them to slide in the opposite direction.
◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ Benedict had just barley caught his balance from falling onto the floor of the carriage, though the carriage slid a bit before finally ceasing to a halt. His immediate reaction, was to see to Eloise. "El," he quickly stated, immediately rushing to the opposite side where she had been previously sitting to make sure she was ok. "Are you hurt?" He further inquired, voice holding concern. If he had to guess, it felt as if the wheels of the carriage had completely come off . . . but that was not his primary concern. He first wished to see that his sister was alright and unharmed from the sudden, unexpected event.

If you had asked the second oldest Bridgerton daughter, she would have told you the entire affair was a disaster. Most of the bachelor’s there were either tipsy, self-absorbed, or stepped on her toes while they waltzed. Needless to say and not at all to Eloise’s surprise, this round of husband hunting had been a complete and utter disaster. Her escape had been the best part of the evening and she could only thank Benedict, not only for agreeing and providing said escape but for wanting to leave as well. For the first time that night she wore a smile on her face. She had practically skipped to the carriage, pulling her notebook onto her lap as she began to write away, not even comprehending the question that her older brother had asked- only just about to answer as the carriage began to tilt. Everything had moved a little bit quickly, not entirely sure what was going on until they were sent to the opposite side a second time. The worse she had done was bump her head, but she hadn’t felt the least bit disoriented. What she had felt was confused and then just a little bit worried, especially as she fully processed the question that her brother had asked- just how far from home were they? And just where were they? She felt herself pale just a little, looking at her brother as she moved to go and sit by her before looking out the window, shaky exhale. She didn’t recognize anything. Then again, she had spent the entire trip down complaining about going and trying to write. She should probably answer her brother’s questions. “I am fine… I believe I am quite alright.” Her words were slow, careful, looking to him and scanning him for injuries instead before asking. “Are you alright?” He looked it, but looks could oh so easily be deceiving, she knew that more than anyone. “Do you think it is safe to get out? Do we even know what has happened?” Never before has she been in a carriage accident, nor had she seen anything like this save for written word. It made her just a little bit nervous though she was trying her best to remain calm in order to soothe the situation. Looking away only to grab her journal and quill which had fallen before looking to her brother. “Is everyone else alright? The horses? How far are we from the party do you think?” Tag ~ Benedict Bridgerton ~ Note : Sorry Benedict. Eloise gets worried or nervous and then starts asking questions.

I'm not bound by Benedict felt relieved when she assured him she was alright. Her words were not slurred, she was maintaining eye contact and her gaze did not seem . . . unfocused. His hand went to the top of her head, gently touching it to see if there was a mark from where she had hit the carriage. Breathing a sigh of relief, finally accepting that she was unharmed, her own question belatedly registered in his mind. "I'm fine," he assured her, lowering his hand to his side again. Her questions then came, all excellent inquiries yet Benedict did not have the answer to any of them. And now that he knew his sister was well -- physically at least -- he supposed he best start trying to find the answers.
◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ "Wait here," he instructed her, giving her hand a light squeeze before exiting the carriage and assessing the situation outside. "Apologies! The wheels detached from the carriage." Benedict looked over their driver to ensure he was alright. He then made his way to the horses, one of which was standing oddly and the other sitting. "The jolt sprained one of the horse's leg it would seem, and the other fell on top." Benedict gently stroked both horses' necks, one at a time. The driver's words registering in his mind. It meant . . . the horses would not be able to take any weight. They weren't going anywhere right now.
◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ Benedict looked around at the abandoned, darkly lit area. It was no place for Eloise and he was more worried for her than anything. Had it just been him, he could have walked back but with Eloise . . . he had no intention of her walking through a dark lit area, nor leaving her here in god knows where. "Perhaps someone will come," Benedict said, aware of how important it was for him to stay calm and composed despite the circumstances. "If not, I will seek out help." Benedict did not wish to send off the driver on his own . . . but it would seem they had little other choice. After a few more exchanges, Benedict returned to the carriage, standing at the exit so that he could talk to Eloise. "We may be here for a bit, El," he told her truthfully, assuming she heard most of the conversation.
