I'm not bound by Benedict had been so engrossed in his current art piece that he had not heard the soft footsteps of his wife enter or approach. With his work becoming well know, he was receiving commissions which often had him working on certain areas to further better his skills. It had become . . . easier, he supposed to accept his skill and that perhaps, he did possess some talent.
◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ With the happiness he had found with Sophie and now with the two of them at his country estate, away from all else as they enjoyed the time following their wedding. He was not alerted of her presence until he felt her arms wrap around him, causing an instant smile to form on his lips. He set down his paint brush, his now free hand moving to her forearm and sliding down it to gently take hold of her hand. Once holding it, he brought it to his lips and kissed the back of her hand. Turning his head he looked at the beautiful sight, one that seemed to grow in beauty every time he saw her. "I seemed to have lost track of time again," he said a bit guiltily, a slightly sheepish smile upon his lips.

There was something that was soothing about watching her husband work. Everything inside of him seemed to untense and focus and the pieces he created never failed to awe her. She felt as though she could just sit and watch him until whichever piece he was working on was complete. On top of watching him create, partake in one of his interests, she also got to be with him. Moments like that she loved more than anything in the world. Her smile grew slightly as he reached to grab her hand and kissed it, moving closer in response, fingers tracing oh so gentle circles on him where her arm rested, her hand that held his holding it just a little tighter. “It is quite alright. I do not intend on pulling you away. Not yet at least.” If it got later then perhaps she would, wanting to ensure that he got some rest, but right now she simply wanted to watch, to be near him. Leaning close, Sophie pressed the softest of kisses to his head and then his cheek before looking back to the painting in front of them . “Do not let me distract you. I shall leave if you want to be alone. I simply found myself wanting company.” She hummed, looking him in the eyes. “Which commission are you working on? Would you like an extra set of eyes?”

I'm not bound by Benedict leaned into her touch, the comfort of her presence always allowing him to feel at such peace and happiness. She told him that she did not intend to pull him away, and he closed his eyes as she placed a light kiss on his cheek, enjoying the sensation of her lips upon him. Another feeling that he would never grow tired of. Opening his eyes once more, his focus went to his wife rather than the piece of art before him. The mere thought of her leaving and him preferring to be alone, was one that he quickly had to put to rest. Particularly as she said that she wanted company as well.
◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ "Your company is never unwelcome," he told her sincerely. "Nor undesired." To be able to be with her was wonderful, and every moment spent together . . . were ones he cherished so deeply. To further reinforce his words, he gently pulled her towards him so that she now sat on his lap, his arms around her to hold her in place. "You are quite the distraction," he told her with playful accusation. "For now that you are here, I can not focus on anything else." He leaned forward to lightly kiss her lips. "Nor do I ever want to." Placing another kiss on her lips before drawing a bit back, still holding her near. Her question prompted him to look at the painting before him.
◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ "Lord Colborne commissioned me to do a painting of his wife to surprise her for her upcoming birthday." Benedict knew he had come a long way from the self critical, insecure artist for now his work was receiving more recognition. "I would welcome your thoughts, from such beautiful eyes indeed," he told her flirtatiously, though meant every word. He adored Sophie for all her support that she gave him. The honesty in which she critiqued his work; the kindness in which she approached it. She was one of the very few people he felt comfortable sharing his incomplete work with; his trust in her emphatic and the confidence in him stronger because of it.

The moment that she was dragged closer, Sophie found herself unable to swallow up the light and joyful feeling that bubbled inside of her chest. It was brought to her far easier than she could ever imagine, ease and warmth. It was a joy that she never thought she would know, only read about and witness in the eyes of others, marriage. Some days there was a chance that she might have found love, and she did, one night at a masquerade ball, but even then she knew- or rather assumed that it would be nothing more than that- a night, a moment. What came after at the moment she least expected, though was another and another and him- Her husband. The only thing that she could do was smile and lean closer. Against his lips her smile grew just a little bit, lingering close until he drew back, the softest of hums leaving of her mouth. “Perhaps I must come in here and be a distraction more often.” Words said as her lips turned upwards in a smirk, letting one of her hands move so to comb through his hair, the other around him still, thumbing small circles in his back, pressing the softest of kisses to his neck. Her head rested on his chest, looking up at him until he looked away, her gaze following his to the painting, cheeks turning a shade of pink at his flirt, chuckling just a little bit. “Lord Colborne certainly commissioned the best artist. I can promise you that much.” It was one of many things that she adored about him, his passion for art and the art that he created and if offering her critique could assist then she would do such without hesitation. “I can tell you that I believe Lady Colborne will be extremely pleased with this surprise.” Sophie knew that for a certainty, sealing to words with another kiss to his neck before turning back to look at the piece. For a long moment she was silent, looking the painting before her up and down, trying to scan for anything that could be improved on and struggling a little, like always. She liked to try and give him something to improve upon or at least was slightly constructive, but it usually was something that was a stretch. He was fantastic, and she hoped he saw it just as she did. “It looks marvelous, my dear. I think my favorite is the detail in her face. Especially the eyes." She always found that there was so much life in his work. "I dare say this is my second favorite out of all the portraits I've seen."

I'm not bound by Benedict's smile remained when she suggested coming in here more often. "You will find no objections from me," he assured her. He knew that it may not be the most . . . entertaining time for her, watching him paint. Yet, her presence was a constant comfort. And further inspired him throughout his artistic endeavours. Having her near was always better than being apart. Speaking of comfort . . . he basked in her attentions, her fingers running through his hear in the most soothing manner, her hand upon his back, her soft lips on his skin. He was almost of a mind to abandon the portrait completely and just focus on her and only her. Which . . . he knew it would not take much longer to do. The newlywed bliss would never seem to diminish between them, and Benedict truly wouldn't have it any other way.
◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ He felt a strong sense of pride seeing the colour touch her cheeks, knowing that he could still flatter her to such an extent. That he could still cause her to blush -- not only from his actions, but his words too. And that pride and honor only caused his heart to further swell as she referred to him as being the best artist. "You flatter beyond truth," he told her teasingly, his lips lightly kissing the corner of her mouth. Silent appreciation for her kind words. Ones he would never take for granted indeed. His eyes moved to hers, watching her look over the painting, analyze it and when she finally spoke . . . Benedict felt a wave of relief wash over him. He knew Sophie was truthful; that she had never withhold the truth from him to spare his feelings.
◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ She was upfront; it was one of the many -- many -- things he loved about her. His arms wrapped her a little tighter to keep her close, feeling the burden of uncertainty ease as she further spoke praising words of the portrait. "They do say the eyes are the window to one's soul," he commented, so glad that he had achieved the depth of the gaze. Depth was often something he had struggled with in his early years of artistry. And that, was where the essence of the person was to be most captured. "I do hope you are right," he continued to speak, referring to her certainty that Lady Colborne would like it. "For we have been invited to the event." It added an extra level of pressure to know that he would be there firsthand to see her reaction.
◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ "We will be able to witness firsthand whether she shares your views on this piece." With Sophie standing at his side, he knew he would be able to handle any, unfavorable reaction from the Lady or Lord. Pulling his gaze from the picture and onto something far more desirable -- her -- his eyes gleamed with continued pride and flattery. "Second favourite," he both repeated and questioned. "And what would be your first?" He asked, unable to contain the question as he leaned forward, placing a light kiss on her cheek, moving down to her jawline, and then another right under it.
