It was a strange feeling that stirred inside of her stomach. It was never something that she expected to have the courage to do, defying her stepmother’s wishes, even borrowing the woman’s shoes to be here. Her hair was done and powdered, her fingers covered in fine gloves. All of it felt like some game of dress-up, or rather a dream. Like a dream, though, none of it would last, that being the one thing that was a certainty. For three hours she would smile, she would talk, she would have delicious food and fine liquor and pretend to be of noble raising and birth. More important than that, though was despite the mask, enjoying a night both for herself and being herself and while she was dressed in clothes that she was sure after this night she would never wear again, she intended to make true on thus, leaving in the carriage the servants had arranged as quickly as she could manage.
She was not quite prepared for the anxious feeling that had all too suddenly stirred in her stomach, one that was both nervous and excited at the very same time. She was going to be arriving late, which, of course posed the risk Araminta catching her, but Sophie held faith that she wouldn't, certain that she did not look like herself after all, save for her eyes and face, though most of that would be covered by the mask that was tied around her head.
...It would all be fine. There was nothing to suspect her of and one to expect to see her here. She just needed to swallow, find the courage inside of her stomach and step inside. Sophie forced her shoulders to relax as she moved slowly inside, eyes staring out, ahead instead of at anyone, hoping that they weren't looking at her and if they were that they weren't trying to figure out whose family she had come from. Hearing the music swell, though bit by bit, most of her nerves flew away, her shoulders relaxed, and Sophie Beckett smiled.
Hands resting to her skirts, she moved slowly inside instead of standing at the entrance, deciding to first make her way around the room taking in the scene with wonder and awe, only pausing when she had reached the opposite end of the room to take it all in, think on what to do now that she actually was here. Grabbing a glass from a server passing by with a small thank you, Sophie looked out at the scene once more this time, locking eyes with a man who was walking in her direction. She greeted him with a smile, but not words, not wanting to speak too loudly in case he was not approaching her and she was mistaken. Still, whether, it be her talking to the man or to herself, she could not stop herself from speaking the only words echoing through her head.
"I do not believe I have ever seen a scene as lively and wonderful as this."
