Oh no! Ooohh no! Kate reached for her son and pulled him into her arms. "I know, it hurts!" She felt her heart beating harder. She was nervous she would admit, and trying to remain calm. Yet her heart was beating harder then it had before. Not for her, but her son. And for her husband.
You see, Kate knew that there was not much Anthony Bridgerton feared. He had dueled, he had faced evil suitors, and sickness. Yet when it came to his family he knew what loss was and feared it. He had lost his father, Edmund, to a bee sting. And now, his almost two year old son had his first bee sting. His son that was named for his fallen father!
Kate wondered if he too would fall pray to the sting as his grandfather had?! Looking up at the gardener, who did not seem to know why the child was crying. "Fetch Lord Bridgerton! With all haste!" She knew that it might be best if she hid this from him. Yet she also knew that if anyone would know what to do it would be Anthony. Maybe her son would be like her, and it would do nothing. However . . . if she was wrong . . .
Lifting his arm she did as Anthony had done that once and tried to soak up the venom with her handkerchief. "You will be fine, my love." She told him, and noticed that he was not even trying any more. While there was a small welt, nothing seemed amiss. He did not feel warm, he was babbling about 'bad bee' and holding her with a firm grip. Her fears began to slow. It did not seem that he would fall pray to the sting. "Oh Edmund," she sighed, placing a linger kiss on his dark hair. Perhaps she should have not called Anthony so quickly. She could have spared all three of them what was about to happen next.

i will ALWAYS PROTECT YOU Anthony had just arrived home when a servant had hastily rushed out while he was stepping out of the carriage. "Lord Bridgerton," they quickly stated. Anthony watched her, knowing something was wrong. "Your son--" And that was all Anthony Bridgerton needed to hear. Between the tone in which the servant used and the way they started their sentence . . . Anthony would not waste a moment longer. He hurried inside, hearing the distant voice of the servant state "The garden!" Anthony tossed his hat to the butler, his movements quick as he felt his heart beat heavy in his chest.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ It was mere seconds until he reached the garden, seeing Kate holding their son. Anthony felt his throat go dry as panic filled him. He didn't even wait to reach their side until he spoke. "What happened?" He asked, clear worry in his voice. When he reached them he fell to his knees beside them as his eyes quickly assessed Edmund. His eyes were red from crying and . . . what was that red mark?!
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ It looked like a bite or a . . . the Viscounts eyes widened. "What happened?!" He asked again, unsure how it was possible for him to be even more fearful now that moments before. His heart was beating so hard in his chest he feared it would explode. They were in the garden . . . there was a mark on him . . . yes. Anthony did indeed fear the absolute possible worst fate for his dear boy: that Edmund Bridgerton had been stung by a bee.

Kate held her son and rocked him, and he did begin to calm, though his little face was covered in tears. Hearing steps approaching, Kate looked up at her husband. "Anthony," She said softly, both trying to be calm and trying to be there for her boys. He could see that Anthony already knew or figured out why he was supposed. She could see the fear upon his face and it made her own grow. She HAD to believe that her son was not going to be liked his grandfather. She had to believe it!
Not ready to give over her son to his father, Kate remained where she was. "He is alright it seems." She tried, knowing that while the fear was small for her--it would not be fore her husband who had lost his father to a bee. "Twas a bee sting." Like she had once gotten in the garden. Like she had gotten before that even. And she was fine! Other than momentary pain, she had never thought twice about them until Anthony.
Looking at her son, she brushed his hair out of his face, and pressed a kiss to the top of his head. She could not even entertain the thought that this would be anything but a moment in the young son's life. That this would pass as any other day. Yet she knew for her husband that it would not. The moment she had confirmed that he already knew, she knew he would not be well.

i will ALWAYS PROTECT YOU "T'was a bee sting."
Anthony heard nothing before or after this as he became fixated on the source of the injury. His eyes widened in panic, looking at his precious boy that he would not survive losing. "No, no, no, no," he practically begged. His entire body crippled with fear -- rational or not. Flashes of watching his father fall to the ground and the very life leave his body forever haunting him, and yet now . . . it was what came to surface in the threat of losing his boy the exact same way. Why were they cursed with such a fate?! Perhaps Anthony should have called him something other than Edmund for it would appear Edmunds were meant to die in such a way.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ "Call for a physician!" He yelled at one of the servants. Perhaps they had advantage for they now knew the risk of a bee sting. They could prevent it before it got worse. Kate had survived the sting . . . what if their son did too?! There was a flicker of hope within him . . . yet panic was still the dominate feeling. "Edmund, my boy," he breathed, finding words difficult to utter in this trepidation. His hands went to either side of of Edmund's cheeks, tears welling in Anthony's own eyes . . . each second feeling like an eternity. He felt as if he couldn't breathe, he felt his heart still in his chest. He could not . . . could not lose his son.
