Marina had been standing alone at the ball hoping that someone might ask her to dance. She had not wanted to go but she was lonely so she gave in. Now she felt foolish waiting while everyone seemed to be ignoring her.

I'm not bound by It was rather interesting indeed, that Marina Thompson would be standing by herself when she seemed a far cry from a Wallflower. Benedict was surprised that his own brother -- who had previously inquired about her -- was not even making a move at such an opportune moment. Quite a curious thing indeed. But whether it was due to his mother having instilled this in him, or it was his own conscience -- or both -- he did not quite like the sight of a woman who was standing by herself.
◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ So Benedict politely excused himself from current company, and made his way over to where she stood. "Miss Thompson," he greeted with a smile. Truthfully, Benedict did not mind conversing with young women . . . so long as eager mamas were not right around the corner -- which was often the case. "How are you enjoying your evening?" He asked her with genuine interest.

Swaying to the music Marina smiled watching the dancers. She looked over smiling as Benedict walked over. Mr. Bridgerton. She greeted him warmly. I'm having a lovely evening, all I need is a glass of lemonade to make it perfect. And you?

I'm not bound by Benedict continued to smile as Marina greeted him, saying that she was having a lovely evening. He was unsure if it was merely due to politeness she said it or if she truly meant it. But when she spoke of wanting a glass of lemonade, that was certainly something he could assist with. "Perhaps I can accompany you to it and pour you a glass?" He offered. "Unless of course someone is already fetching you one?" Which could explain why she was standing alone to begin with. "My evening is going well," he told her. "As well as such an event can hope to be," he said in a bit of a lighter tone.

I would love to have you escort me to the lemonade, it will give me time to ask you about your family. Penelope has told me so much about all of you I feel like I know you already. She started to walk over to where the refreshments were. I am surprised you are not on the dance floor, I am sure any of the ladies would love to dance with you. Marina winked at him and then glanced over the room. So Mr. Bridgerton you have to tell me how you and your brothers are all unmarried, most of the ladies here who jump at the chance to be with you.

I'm not bound by Benedict nodded in acknowledged as she allowed him to escort her to retrieve a refreshment. His smile remained on his lips when she spoke of wanting to ask about his family, and Penelope speaking of them allowed her some familiarity with the Bridgertons. "Ah yes, Penelope is a dear friend of ours, particularly my sister, Eloise." The Bridgertons did have a fondness and soft spot for Penelope Bridgerton. Often when she was found standing on her own, or at the mercy of those like Cressida . . . one of them would approach her and help rectify the situation. Especially Colin. It was perhaps their mother's upbringing in that they were always to engage with Wallflowers.
◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ "Have you been enjoying your stay here in London thus far?" He asked, wanting to learn more about it. He moved alongside her until they crossed the few steps needed to where the lemonade was. He lifted a glass and handed it to her before taking one of his own. "I actually just returned from there," he told her, glancing at the designated area for dancing before looking back at her. "Lady Danbury is quite the talented dancer," he said with a continued smile. He enjoyed her company -- as terrifying as she may seem -- and they held a rather amicable and even teasing rapport. Besides, dancing with her would not create any . . . gossip or give his mother false hope that he was dancing with a eligible lady. "Though that is quite kind of you to say, perhaps Lady Danbury wore me out, and I have little energy left for more dancing partners," he added lightly, a bit jokingly.
◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ "And yourself Miss Thompson," he began to ask. "Have you not yet found a worthy dancing partner?" He asked with a slight tease in his voice, fairly certain that her lack of dancing was not due to lack of invitations from men to the dance floor. He gave a small chuckle when she questioned why none of them were yet married. He doubted she wanted to hear the deep seated objections that he himself held. And Anthony . . . was perhaps even more complicated. Colin was far too young but he was perhaps the most flirtatious of them all. "Timing, I suppose," he answered simply but not without untruth.
◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ ◈ "I believe meeting someone that one wishes to marry must come at its natural course." That was perhaps as politely as he could put it. After all, until Anthony even stated his intention to marry . . . it was clear he was not looking for a wife. And Benedict, was maybe waiting for the right one. "What are your thoughts on the subject?" He inquired, not wishing to ask a lady why she was not married so instead, left his inquiry open so that she could answer based on her own level of comfort and divulge as much as she felt at ease in doing so.

Marina was not at all surprised to hear how he spoke about Penelope. It seemed like Pen had many friends within the Bridgerton household but she was not surprised because to know Pen was to love her. She was just such a sweet and loveable soul that you wanted to be near. Eloise was mentioned many times, Penelope seems very fond of her. The way she talks about your family it is obvious that she cares for you all. It made me want to meet all of you.She smiled as she took the lemonade from him and immediately put it to her lips to take a long sip. Then she licked her lips before she spoke again. I find London very interesting, there seems to be much happening all the time. I saw you on the dance floor, Lady Danbury has good taste in her dancing parties. You both looked very engaged. Then she laughed. Me? Well I have danced a few times but I decided it might be more fun to watch others for awhile. Glancing over at the dance floor she smiled. You can tell so much by looking at how others look at each other on the dance floor.
I believe that there is a perfect someone out there for each of us and you know when you find the one. You know that you want to spend the rest of your life with them because the thought of life without them hurts like no pain you have ever know. Thoughts of George filled her mind as she spoke but she was careful not to mention him.
