Tag: @polinshipper82 i will ALWAYS PROTECT YOU Anthony listened as she acknowledged his worry and assured him that Hyacinth was in safe hands. He supposed it was not the doctor's capabilities that he doubted but rather . . . the inability to help. His own inability to help. With a physical threat, there were ways Anthony could protect his siblings. But with something like this -- and illness -- he was completely powerless. Helpless to do anything to make the situation better. To ease their discomfort and pain. And he hated that. "Yes," he agreed. "Your father is well skilled in his field." Anthony of course would not allow anyone . . . inadequate to tend to any of his family members.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ Once Helena was seated, he too took a seat, glancing at his brother who he presumed was requesting refreshments, before turning his attention back to Helena when she spoke, offering to hear him vent. "I appreciate your offer Miss Bishop," Anthony stated. "But I would not do such a thing." As to unload upon her. He seldom did it with his own family members. His emotions, concerns . . . well they were all difficult for Anthony to articulate. Often suppressed and internalized where they came out in rather, intensely heated ways. "I do hope you will forgive and understand why we were unable to properly greet you upon your arrival," he continued, knowing it could reflect poorly or imply impoliteness to not properly receive a guest into their home.

Tag: @polinshipper82 Note: hope this is ok! i will ALWAYS PROTECT YOU Anthony was frantic. It was no secret that he was highly protective over his siblings and the moment Hyacinth had been feeling unwell . . . concern flooded him. He had barley left her side, having called for doctors and anyone else who may aid in her recovery. He would question them, ensure they were doing everything within their capability to help her. He absolutely hated to see Hyacinth in any sort of pain or discomfort and wished there was a way to take it upon himself to spare her. When Doctor George Bishop came however, it was clear that Anthony's hovering had reached its limit from his mother.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ She suggested entertaining the physician's daughter and Anthony immediately refused, wanting to remain by Hyacinth's side. Anthony did not need to see his mother's non verbal exchanged to know that she shared a look with Benedict who then practically ushered Anthony out of Hyacainth's room so that the doctor may tend to her. "She should not be left alone!" "She is not alone." "Well I should be there!" "You were requested elsewhere." Granted, the request had been made by their mother but still.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ Anthony was of a mood, reaching the bottom of the stars and turning to go back up when Benedict stopped him, turned him around and ushered him to the room where they were to meet the doctor's daughter. "Good afternoon Miss Bishop," Anthony greeted. A lifetime of guarding his emotions -- suppressing them -- and remaining as stoic as ever, had indeed saved him in circumstances such as this where he could appear to be a perfect gentleman. "It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance," he further greeted, lowering his head in a polite bow.

Tag: @phillipaf Note: Better layout coming soon! i will ALWAYS PROTECT YOU Anthony supposed he should feel relieved for the fact that Philipa was not panicking about their current circumstances . . . she seemed to be taking it quite well in fact. Though with a mother like Portia Featherington, perhaps her daughters came to expect such type behavior from their mother. How unfortunate for the Featherington daughters indeed. Though it did not ease Anthony's annoyance at the matron, particularly when Philipa said that she would be listening for any potential scandal.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ "I assure you that nothing of such a nature will take place." His voice confident and sure. It was one thing to be in a locked room with a woman. Another when there was a nosy audience on the other side of the door. Not to mention his words served as an assurance to her that he would not do anything to compromise her. "Your mother will be left disappointed." Perhaps that would force her unlock the damn door. Though when Philipa said that there was only one way to find out, Anthony looked at her curiously with a slightly raised eyebrow. "What do you have in mind?"

i will ALWAYS PROTECT YOU Anthony continued to smile as Caroline expressed her gratitude, and then spoke of how she would have charmed him with ease had she had more time to prepare. "It would seem then that you will have to be more on the impulsive side," he said with a playful tease in his tone. "Though should you possess a natural charm, I am certain you will do quite well even without time to prepare." A compliment to her of course for he truly did mean what he said . . . sometimes it was nice to speak to a woman without such rehearsed and generic lines.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖
His smile held a hint of amusement when she expressed certainty of him having heard creative attempts . . . fainting -- swooning -- in his presence. It would be dishonest to say that he had not experienced such things in the presence of another. Some, were far more dramatic than others. "It would be a lie to say it has not happened," he confirmed, trying to maintain modesty in his statement and its implications. "Though it does occasionally put a slight damper on good conversation at times, would you not agree?" He asked only partially rhetorical, leaving an option for her to answer if she preferred.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖
"So I do hope that you are feeling quite well," he added on, with that same slight tease in his voice. For while she spoke of charming a Bridgerton, he too would not forgo to charm a beautiful woman -- even if it perhaps only went that far. When she asked to go for a stroll, Anthony glanced at her maid before looking back at Caroline. "It would be a pleasure," he told her, as he extended his arm for her to take. He fought the urge to look at her mother, instead focusing his attention on Caroline as they readied themselves to walk through the gardens of Aubrey Hall.

Tag: @phillipaf Note: Better layout coming soon! i will ALWAYS PROTECT YOU Anthony politely smiled when Phillipa entered the room. He did not know her particularly well, though he supposed the only Featherington daughter he saw most frequently outside the ton's events was Penelope due to her close friendship with Eloise. "Ms. Featherington," he greeted with a slight nod of his head. "It is my pleasure." She offered him tea and he of course had no reason to refuse. Perhaps it would help pass the time. "That sounds lovely," he agreed. "So long as I am not interrupting any previous engagements you may have." He of course did not want to keep her from . . . well, whatever a woman may be doing mid afternoon.

Tag: @francescab Note: Better layout coming soon! i will ALWAYS PROTECT YOU Anthony had been so preoccupied with his own thoughts of all that needed to get done . . . starting with rounding up his siblings for a picnic in the park. A family outing this his mother insisted upon. But of course, the only sister that was ready was Hyacinth. So Anthony was going to go to each of them to see what was taking so long. With that determination in mind, he had not considered in what state he may find Francesca so with a second thought, he opened the door and began to say her name. "Fran--" But he did not get a chance to finish it for what he saw caused the word to abruptly stop as his eyes slightly widened. He froze but when realization sunk in he quickly closed his eyes and spun around, causing his head to bump into the wall in the process. "Quickly dress yourself!" He urged, knowing that if he tried to step out of the room now, he would most likely stumble.

Tag: @francescab Note: Slightly godmodded her to the couch, let me know if you'd like me to edit ! i will ALWAYS PROTECT YOU Anthony felt relieved when she responded coherently, and that the hit had not been hard enough to render her unconscious. He carried her over to the sofa where he ensured she was seated comfortably. There were far too many prying eyes here and Anthony certainly had enough of it. "Everybody out," he demanded, clearly referring to all the suitors who just stood around watching the scene. Where there was no immediate movement, Anthony repeated his words. "Out!" With more authority and strength so that they properly understood that the time for callers was well over. As they made their leave, Anthony returned his attentions to his sister. "Just rest," he instructed her softly, his eyes looking on her forehead to see if there was a bump while his hand gently touched the top of her head to feel for any mark of injury.

Tag: @phillipaf Note: Better layout coming soon! i will ALWAYS PROTECT YOU The current situation was not ideal but it seemed that everyone had their minds made up . . . particularly Colin. Stubbornness seemed to be a trait among all the Bridgerton children; a fact Anthony knew all too well as he watched each of them grow older. So alas; he could not stop the upcoming nuptials so therefore, would have to assist in it's arrangements. It was after all what had brought him to the doorstep of the Featheringtons. He was intending to discuss said arrangements -- as well as Marina's dowry -- with Lord Featherington however was informed that neither he nor Portia were home.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ Anthony was prepared to make his leave when the butler insisted he come in and wait as they should be back shortly. Anthony pulled out his pocket watch to glance at the time. He did not wish to waste time but nor did he want to keep making the trip. With a nod he followed the butler into the drawing room, before he made his departure, leaving Anthony standing there. The Viscount glanced around, not entirely sure what to do with himself. By the time he convinced himself to take a seat, he heard approaching footsteps to which he immediately rose respectfully, assuming it was one of the Featherington daughters or perhaps even Marina herself.

i will ALWAYS PROTECT YOU He felt the annoyance at the word -- dishonor -- start to wane when she apologized, giving a small nod in her direction of acceptance and forgiveness as she asked. When she pointed out that he had not answered her questions . . . such was indeed true. But her latter words distracted him from recalling them to provide answer. "And what makes you so certain that such affections will not be returned?" What made her so sure that it be unrequited.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ "Affection is developed over time and can not be cast after a single glance." Love at first sight, or in this case . . . immediate affection, was always a notion that Anthony never understood nor believed in really. Any draw towards a woman and male to such intensity, was often attraction and lust. At least, in his case. "My aim of stating such intentions is that we get to know each other under this new possible future." He paused for a moment, remaining standing as she sat, not wishing to make himself too comfortable. "Developing such affections as the one you speak of is not immediate." Though a thought did occur to him as to why she perhaps was speaking of unrequited affections.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ "Unless of course there is another that you hold such strong affections for in which case, I would of course not entrap you in such a position." Of courting her if her heart -- unbeknownst to anyone -- belonged to another. It was one thing to marry someone who he would inevitably leave widowed in less than a decade. An entirely different matter to wed someone who was either in love with or wanted to be with someone else.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ Though she spoke of happiness, grating himself full happiness was far too selfish a thought considering his future. He could be content . . . and perhaps as close to happiness as he would allow himself to be. "If you truly and confidently believe that you can see no future of happiness with me, nor can reignite any affection, then I will not pursue this." But to his point in his mind, it was certainly far too early on to make such presumptions -- as evidenced by his earlier statement.

Tag: @phillipaf Note: Better layout coming soon! i will ALWAYS PROTECT YOU Anthony inwardly felt the annoyance at hearing his theory being true; that Portia had concocted this plan. But whatever irritation he felt, he kept it concealed, trusting the words of Philipa in that this was not solely of her doing. Anthony knew all too well of desperate mamas and Portia . . . certainly had a reputation among them.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ "Well, this certainly is not the way," he told her, keeping his tone even, ensuring it was absent of blame. "Though do not worry. Someone will surely come soon enough to unlock those doors." He hoped. Pausing for a second, he glanced at the door before looking back at Philipa, taking a step closer toward her and dropping his voice to a lower volume. "Do you think she would be standing on the other end of the doors?" He inquired. Eavesdropping on their conversation.

i will ALWAYS PROTECT YOU To hear her speak of dishonor and making their father's proud in the same sentence caused his heart to wrench. Dishonor. No. Was he not honoring them by suggesting such a union. Had he not spent the past several years knowing what it was to swallow back emotions, and remain stoic and composed . . . then her words would have most certainly drawn a reaction from him. Instead, he remained silent as she continued to speak. Another fortune, that he was accustomed to high maintenance women such as his sisters. In fact, most women he supposed expected as such: to be wooed, to get presents . . . Elizabeth certainly did not seem like the exception to this, expectation that the general female population seemed to hold.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ When she finished with what she had to said, Anthony let a moment linger before collecting his thoughts, and beginning to express . . . at least some of them. "I do not consider it a dishonor, to state one's intentions clearly." Unlike some men who courted and pursued women without intention of marrying. Besides, Anthony did not do this often for he knew the rumours that would surround it. Therefore, he would much rather be upfront about his intentions and not do as so many men he knew did: lead a woman on. It was perhaps also why he did not allow certain men to speak even a word to his unmarried sisters when they were of age: he knew men all too well.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ "I said nothing about passing over courting and an opportunity to get to know one another under these circumstances. I merely stated my intentions so that you would understand them as I do not wish to waste your time, nor mine." And there was an added sensitivity to this as well, considering the closeness of their families. His tone remained leveled, masking the offense he felt at his actions or words being considered dishonorable. "As you speak highly and honestly of yourself, then perhaps reconsider your words of being in a union with me as being one without affection." For he had after all, found out about affections she held for him. It had been a factor when it came to suggesting this very union of marriage. Yet, one that she clearly denied now.

i will ALWAYS PROTECT YOU Anthony gave a small nod when she suggested the garden, before motioning to one of her maids to join them. Clasping his hands behind his back, he positioned himself alongside Elizabeth before they started their walk into the gardens. Anthony was not one to waste time, for she most certainly knew that there was a purpose for this conversation and he had no intention to needlessly prolong revealing it. After a few moments of silence, Anthony began.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ "As you well know, our fathers were dear friends." The subject of his father was a difficult one to discuss but in this instance, a necessary one for he had his own father in mind when making this proposal. "It is also clear that they wanted our families to remain close, as we have been fortunate to do so." The passing of his father or her mother did not change the bond among them -- though of course hers was stronger with other siblings of his, not him. "That being said, I have considered what it could mean to further solidify this union . . . " He paused for a moment, turning to look at her so that he could see her reaction to his next words. "Through marriage."
