i will ALWAYS PROTECT YOU Anthony Bridgerton was unsure which he preferred: the distraction of conversation, or a quiet moment to himself. While he loved Aubrey Hall, his attendance here was not as frequent as it had been when . . . his father had been alive. The sentiment of this place, the bittersweet sentiment held a weight upon the Viscount's shoulders. Especially the gardens where he had always taken a vested interest . . . particularly after he became viscount. Despite the deep workings of his mind in such memories, he was fairly certain only a moment or two had passed when he heard a voice greeting him. He was after all, expected to be a good host. His mother had invited so many -- her motives far from subtle -- and while Anthony doubted he would find himself engaged in the next few days, there was certainly no harm in carrying conversation.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ "Lady Caroline," he greeted with a slight bow of his head. "It brings my family much joy that you accepted our invitation and are in attendance." He did not know her well, but he of course knew of her family. Though it was her next words that broke the routine of such basic and typical conversational exchange . . . for she stated that she felt under pressure to say something clever. Such honesty was certainly not common and Anthony fought the urge to glance at her mother . . . and even to smile. Though his lips slightly curved upwards into a hint of one.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ "Perhaps the simplicity of a mere greeting is rare enough to be considered charming," he said with a good natured tease in his voice, meaning the words. Women would often go to extremes to capture the interest of an eligible gentlemen -- mamas too. Whether it was by bosting of their talents, swooning, a statement of wit. To be greeted with a simple tell and admittance was a rarity indeed. "We shall not have your mother think otherwise," he continued with the same tone, words offered of support that she need not worry about finding the perfect think to say. And also, an offer to remain in her company for a few moments if only to ease her mother's mind . . . or, perhaps save Caroline from her mother's scrutiny. For Anthony had seen it all too many times before among eager mamas and how he pitied the ladies in such circumstances.

i will ALWAYS PROTECT YOU The upcoming season upon them would bring about a change for the Viscount: he was looking for a wife. Actually searching for one. Heartbreak with Siena had reinforced his stance that he could not -- and would not -- marry for love. This of course rooted from his acceptance of death at an early age. And that age was approaching. The age of his father's death, of his uncle's . . . and the Viscount would be among yet another to meet this fate. Which was why, he needed to find a wife. A suitable wife. Anthony Bridgerton certainly would not settle for just anyone. There had to be standards met, but at the same time . . . he was not overly fussed about falling in love. In fact, he did not want to. An invitation to the Davenport estate did have him thinking however. About a certain eligible young woman among the family: Elizabeth.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ Her father and his own had been quite close friends, the families remaining as such despite Edmund's death. After all, they too had their own share of loss. And so, Anthony could not help but think of how it would have pleased his own father to solidify this into a union of marriage. Surely, that would make the most logical sense. While Anthony did not know Elizabeth as well as perhaps his brother Benedict, he knew enough. She was beautiful, intelligent, kind . . . yes. She would indeed make a suitable wife. Of course these intentions were not yet known. And he also knew he could not just immediately set forth a proposal. Women after all enjoyed being courted, wooed. A formality Anthony would not frivolously engage in. He also had to determine what her own thoughts about this may very well be for Anthony was not going to cause any strain or tension among the bonds of friendship between the Bridgertons and Davenports.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ As they exited the carriage and conversation filled the air, Anthony watched Benedict move towards Elizabeth and the Viscount knew he would have to speak to her before the two of them grew comfortable in each other's company. "Lady Elizabeth," he greeted politely. "May I have a word?" He asked. Aware of the implications an unmarried man and woman alone could raise, he continued. "With a chaperone of your choosing of course. Or in a public area of comfort." Whether she prefer to speak in a public enough area, or have a chaperone directly present . . . he would abide by her preference.

Tag: @phillipaf Note: Better layout coming soon! i will ALWAYS PROTECT YOU Anthony knew he should have been prepared for this. All of it. Since declaring his intentions to wed, of course eager mamas would wish to present their daughters, even if he had already met them. He supposed things had changed for he had now publicly announced himself ready for marriage, and in search of a wife. Still. It was a great deal to handle. Each event was often the same and this particular one, caused Anthony requiring a break from it all. From all polite conversations. All dances. All explanations from eager parents. Just . . . all of it.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ He managed to sneak out of the main room in eager search of somewhere -- anywhere -- that was quiet and more importantly, empty so that he may have a moment of peace to himself. He was quite fortunate to find one and as he did, released a heavy breath that he had not even realized he'd been holding. The moment's peace did not last long for he heard approaching footsteps, and when he looked up, saw a woman practically pushed into the room before the door slammed shut. Anthony would have questioned it, but instead, he just watched as she attempted to open the door. With no success. That was when Anthony crossed the room to move closer to the woman . . . who he knew.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ Philipa Featherington. He would not put it past her mother to have set this all up. "Allow me," he said in attempt to push it open, but the door was damn thick and clearly locked from the other end. He inwardly cursed, trying to keep it from escaping his lips considering he was in the presence of a lady. He turned his head to look at her before taking a few steps away. "Did your mother force you into this room?" He asked, unable to help his curiosity as to whether this was truly an accident, or weather Portia Featherington played a hand in this little ploy. His heart went out to her daughters; they were kind young woman being led by a rather . . . desperate and gossip ridden mother.

Tag: @francescab Note: Better layout coming soon! i will ALWAYS PROTECT YOU Bloody hell there were too many people in the room. While he knew it was to be expected, Anthony's guard was raised. Much like when they entered a ball, or some large social gathering. He was watchful, eyeing anyone who was not good enough for one of his sisters which . . . was practically everyone. Though as they were at the Bridgerton residence, most all were on their best behavior. Which, allowed Anthony to continue his intimidation and interrogation. In fact, he was rather enjoying the current victim as he was squirming in his seat when a loud sound immediately distracted them all. Anthony's eyes shot over to the source, seeing his other sister nearly falling.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ "Francesca!" He exclaimed, rushing to her side. "Are you alright?" He looked at her and then at the space in front of them which, only revealed a door. She must have walked into it. Anthony remained at her side, his arms around her for support as he looked over her to see any sign of injury. Of course the suitors in the room seized the opportunity. Either to showcase their concern if only to impress both Daphne and the Viscount. Or, by taking the opportunity to weasel their way closer to Daphne now that most everyone's attention was diverted. "Stay back," he instructed them, not wanting a huge crowd hovering over Francesca. It was bad enough they did so with Daphne.

Tag: @francescab Note: Better layout coming soon! i will ALWAYS PROTECT YOU Anthony felt something rather warm cover him and despite it's comfort, he stirred a little, slowly opening his eyes to see Francesca. Disoriented, he abruptly sat up straight, a slow breath escaping him as his eyes darted around and he tried to determine what exactly happened. The books were open in front of him, the light was peeking out through the window . . . he had fallen asleep. In the middle of the day.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ He supposed it made sense considering the late hour he had slept the previous night and the fact that he had been staring at these numbers for . . . what he presumed had been hours. Needing to determine as much, he pulled out the precious pocketwatch from his father and quickly glanced at the time, before closing it and his eyes going to Francesca. "I did not mean to doze off," he said, vocalizing his thoughts both to her and well, to himself he supposed. "Thank you," he added on to her gratefully, for the blanket, which was far too comfortable to remove from his body at the moment.

Tag: @francescab Note: Better layout coming soon! i will ALWAYS PROTECT YOU Anthony was glad that he could offer her at least a little comfort when it came to normalizing how she felt under these circumstances. As she went on to list all the different possible scenarios, the Viscount listened quietly. Attentively. Taking in each and every word. How he longed to rid her of any feelings that caused her discomfort or fear. How he wished he could protect her from any pain and sadness the world inevitably caused. While he knew that was an impossibility, to spare his family of any pain . . . it made him wish it no less.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ He waited for her to finish, allowing a moment of silence to linger before addressing all that she had shared. He reached out for her hand, taking it in his and giving it a gentle squeeze as he held it. "I have watched you grow up Francesca, into a wonderful young woman," he began to say. "One who is kind, intelligent, and compassionate, only to name a few qualities." For he knew there was much more to her. "And one who is ready. Ready to face society as you will undoubtedly flourish in it." How proud of her he was; the mixed pride for he held that of a father and that of a brother. "You are a Bridgerton," he further reminded, as that in itself encompassed so much.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ "And you should trust in your judgement, as I trust in you." It was never distrust he held for his siblings that caused him to be rather involved in the process of finding a suitable match: it was his distrust in everyone else. "And of course, should any man be unwelcome company or dare do anything to cause you discomfort, I will have his head." Which, perhaps sounded like a joke but if there was one thing that others knew of Anthony Bridgerton . . . it was his protective nature towards his family. Hell, he had been willing to shoot his best friend after what he did to Daphne. Water under the bridge, yet indication of the lengths he would go to. And Francesca, was no different.

Tag: @francescab Note: Better layout coming soon! i will ALWAYS PROTECT YOU Anthony returned the expression, offering a smile of his own as she spoke of being nervous, inquiring as to whether it was normal. He moved towards her, taking a comfortable seat on the empty spot on the sofa beside her. "Incredibly," he answered, the response filled with ease to indicate its normalcy. "It would be far less normal for you not to be nervous," he added on with a continued smile.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ "But you need not carry the burden of this on your own. Perhaps it would help to share it, and tell me what is most on your mind about the days to come." He knew it was a heavy question, for he was certain there were indeed many a reasons. But he wanted to be there for her. Offer his emphatic and unwavering support. When they were younger the needed support had been for such smaller things. A small cut, a disagreement with a sibling, a bad dream. But now . . . the weight of her troubles and cause of her nerves was that of a mature young woman. How Anthony felt as if he had blinked, and she was suddenly grown up. When, had she become so grown up.

Tag: @francescab Note: Better layout coming soon! i will ALWAYS PROTECT YOU One would think Anthony ought to have gotten used to this by now. Francesca was the third sister and thus, reach the inevitable age of coming out for the season. Though Eloise was not yet married, and had even delayed her coming out . . . Anthony had still experienced it. That, concern. That, distrust he had for practically every man that let one of his sister's capture their gaze. He knew the minds of men, and he hated to think what they thought of when looking at a beautiful woman. But alas, the time was upon them.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ Tonight would be a ball. While Anthony had eased a little -- as he liked to think -- thanks to his own marriage and even children, his priorities were more divided. Though, he would never neglect his duty as Viscount. Francesca had been so young when dear Edmund had passed away and Anthony knew there were times where he had been more like a father to her and the other younger ones. In all honesty, there were also times where he longed to be nothing more than a brother. But, his duty came first and so he was set to find his sister a suitable match. Despite his thinking that no one was ever good enough for any of his sisters -- or brothers if he was being quite honest.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ It was early afternoon and Anthony had a fairly relaxed day, for most everyone was out running errands or making visits, including Kate and his children. There was some sense of relief however when he entered the drawing room to see Francesca sitting there. He supposed he should have a talk with her, wonder what was going on in her mind as the season started. "Francesca," he greeted with a nod. "Did you already have tea?" He asked, deciding that if she had not, he would join her for a cup -- should his company not be left undesired of course. He knew through no subtlety of anyone in his family, when a sibling's presence was unwanted.
