Anthony wished he could confidently trust his brother's judgement. The way he spoke about Penelope, was similar to the way he had spoken about Marina. Smitten. Presumably in love, mistakenly for lust. Anthony wanted to believe his brother matured from that. He spoke with conviction and Anthony could see that Colin himself truly believed it. But, that did not mean the Viscount was not going to be weary. Particularly upon hearing Do you have something against the Featheringtons. Was the answer not simple? "Well . . . yes!" Anthony responded as if it was the most obvious response.

"Has my previous listing of events not reminded you of all their transgressions?" Marina and Lady Featheringtons manipulations -- for Anthony did not believe that Portia was absent of blame and innocent in such things. Jacksons dishonesty about the success of his mines. "While Penelope Featherington may have been far removed from such things, marriage is not only about two people entering a union, but two families." Which was why it was important to know the family and see that they were one of honor and respect. "So it surprises me brother, that you would wish to associate and form such a unbreakable bond with them after all they have done." Especially to Colin. Especially since . . . Portia Featherington would be his mother in law.

7. after a bar fight

Anthony was at White's, currently enjoying one of the rare moments of socialization and ease. While it was a business meeting that brought him here, good company and a few drinks had him remain. That is, until a man rushed into White's, informing the Viscount of news. "Lord Bridgerton! Your brother is involved in a fight!" The man was practically out of breath, though at the moment, Anthony's concern trumped his gratitude towards the messenger. He immediately rose to his feet and instead of asking which brother, asked which bar. Grabbing his coat he hastily made his way out of the gentleman's club and straight towards the bar. Fortunately, it was not too far and as he pushed through the crowd to get instead, his eyes scanned the crowd to look for either Colin or Benedict.

He supposed it was not unlikely for either of them to be involved. He doubted they may have started it, but they could easily have been a part of of it . . . or just got caught within the chaos. But such questions were unimportant until Anthony was rest assured that his brother was alright. After what felt like an eternity of panic and worry -- though in actuality was a mere few seconds -- Anthony's gaze rested on Colin. He rushed to his side, his eyes scanning over Colin to see if he had sustained any injuries. That would be the first order of business. The next, would be to see the men who caused this, pay for their actions. "Good God, man. What happened?" He asked, his voice steady but holding evident concern for his younger brother.

Ever since the premature death of their father, Anthony had stepped into the father figure role, as well as the protector over the family. This was both for his sisters as well as his brothers. So if there was anything that the ton knew of the Viscount Bridgerton, it was his overprotective nature when it came to his family. So when Colin came to speak of his union with Penelope, Anthony could not help but feel the same way. Albeit, Penelope was different as they had known their family for many years. Eloise and her were close friends. And yet, Anthony could not help but be skeptical and question his brother's intentions -- for what he felt were for sound reasons.

"What is your fixation with this family, Colin?" Anthony asked, his voice calm and stoic. His temper may have evened since getting married, but he was still first and foremost, the protector of his family. Colin may not be asking for his advice or opinion, but Anthony was going to attempt to have a conversation with him about this. "First you announced your spontaneous engagement to Marina Thompson." Anthony would not remind him how that ended up -- especially since his younger brother had just acknowledged it.

"Then you withdraw funds to invest in Jackson Featheringtons ruby mines." Even if it had proved to be fake, Anthony's confrontation of Colin in that moment had resulted in Colin growing rather upset. "And now, you wish to wed Penelope Featherington." And so, Anthony's question still stood . . . what was his fixation with the Featheringtons? He was merely trying to, understand. Perhaps Anthony's inquiry was not solely to protect his brother, but to protect Penelope as well.

Anthony continued to watch the woman she as she cried, the pangs of guilt within him. Yet . . . intended to clear this unfortunate exchange by the time she was ready to leave the room. "Perhaps we had not adequately explained to you, the expectations upon entering my office." His not demanding nor condescending, but an admittance of responsibility so that she would absolve herself from at least some of the blame. "To explain it quite simply, one is required to knock before entering." There was -- dare he say -- the slightest of teases in his voice. Anthony was not one who teased another a great deal, but her tears had weakened him and he felt the need to replace the mood with a semblance of lightheartedness. His father had always taught him to treat the hired help well, respectfully and kindly. He would not do anything to dishonor that.

"Truth be told, Miss Norton I am unsure what you are usually like as I have not been properly acquainted with you." Another admittance though this time not of guilt, but rather him not recognizing that her bold actions and bold statement were not simply the norm from her. He was relieved to find out it was not. For if someone had been intentionally and blatantly disrespectful to him . . . he could only imagine how they would treat his family. And that, was where he drew the line. "I considered that perhaps my own family's influence may have temporarily emboldened you. Something I would not fault you for." His words spoken with the same subtle tease as the earlier ones. Such was the case . . . especially if Edith was made to spend time with Eloise and Hyacinth.
