Gaze so intent as if it was something he had never seen before. Though he stared, his mind filled with the memories of it's significance. Especially today. For it marked an important day in the Bridgerton history. His father's birthday. Memories of each years festivities distracted the eldest Bridgerton from the incomplete paperwork set upon the desk of his study. Memories forever etched in his mind; bittersweet. For it reminded him of the pain of Edmund's loss each year.

A pain so keenly felt. Anthony, just as his other siblings who had precious time with him . . . had been close to Edmund. A family such as theirs was not entirely common. They adored each other. Fought with one another, yes of course. But they truly loved one another. Sitting at the dinner table together, sharing laughter and joys. Sorrows and fears. Anthony knew that he could never fulfil the role that his father had and meet the expectations of an heir. A day such as today, just reminded him of how much he missed him. How he longed for his guidance and advice. Feelings within him that he had perhaps not even properly addressed throughout the past decade. Nor ones that he was prepared to expose.

Closing the cover of the precious item, Anthony casually looked up to see Hyacinth. Had Anthony not been so composed, perhaps he would have jolted from being startled at the unexpected site. "Hyacinth," he acknowledged, unsure of how long she had even been standing there. Just as unsure as how long he had been staring at the watch. "Should you not be in bed at this hour?" His way of asking if everything was and why wasn't she asleep at what he assumed was late. Ironic . . . considering he had been looking at the watch and did not even know what time it currently was.

i will ALWAYS PROTECT YOU Ordinarly, a man would find comfort and excitement in the knowledge that his sister was marrying his best friend. But in this circumstance, such was not the case. Not entirely anyway. Anthony felt he knew Simon far too well to believe he was ever good enough for Daphne. And while that had not changed -- for he doubted any man was good enough for his beloved sister -- he knew that they must reach a mutual understanding. There was an underlying, strong friendship between Simon and he. And now, the man was going to be a part of his family.

Yet, the fact that he was a friend and Duke had not deterred Anthony from challenging him to a duel. Nor the need to have a serious conversation with him about the future happiness of Daphne. Simon had said as such, in refusal of the dowry but Anthony wanted to make it quite clear. As if he hadn't already. So that was what brought them to the club that Anthony was currently situated at; sitting on a comfortable chair, a vacant one across from him and a small table in the middle. It would be a matter of mere days until friend became brother. As Simon entered, Anthony watched him approach, standing up to be polite. Polite. Ironic . . . considering what had taken place between them. "Hastings," he greeted before returning to sit on his seat.

Anthony was born as the first son of the Bridgertons. A well known, highly respected family. At the age of 18, his father passed away and he became heir and viscount. Anthony took this role seriously and does all that he can to look after and protect his family. He often attempts to assert his authority, however this can easily backfire. He feels the weight of his role, and the societal expectations . . . often in conflict with using his head or his heart to direct and guide him.
