| -------------------------------------------- "We can't invite her. Mama hates her," She commented to Kitty as she read the invite list for the upcoming royal luncheon. Kitty Langham was among her closest companions and so, she trusted her. Her dark eyes scanned the list, hoping to catch Friedrich's name and there it was. A small smile appeared on her lips, blushing slightly as she placed the list down. "Oh, Kitty, were you nervous when you were searching for your partner?" Charlotte asked, gently chewing her bottom lip.
She was about to mix in her tea before one of the servants appeared at her side, taking the spoon from her. Lottie felt ever so useless sometimes. Everything had been offered to her on a silver platter and she'd never worked a day in her life. Sure, duty was her job, but she wished she could have... fought in wars or made a difference. Sometimes, she felt like she couldn't speak of this to her friends out of fear that they'd judge her, though she truly wished to hold a sword and try. Her parents would certainly never allow it. |

kitty & lottie. The question, while not unusual, caught her off guard for a moment. What a blessing it may have been, if she actually got to search. She'd often fantasized about her debut when she was small, though her match hadn't come about in quite the same way. There'd never been dancing with various suitors, there'd been very little choice at all, when it all came down to it. She'd been promised to the general when her father passed, and there was little point in her being out in society when she already had an intended, her mama had said. "It was different for the General and I, your grace," she explained, her own gaze skimming over the invite list. She could understand why, for an unmarried woman, this kind of thing was important. One's future spouse could be at any of these events. "My father was killed before my debut into society, and my hand was promised to Langham as soon as he took over his position as general. I suppose I was never granted the opportunity to feel nervous. What is it that worries you so?"[attr="class","mizocredit"] [newclass=.mizocredit a]font:bold 6pt calibri;letter-spacing:1px;color:#b5d1f1;[/newclass]

| -------------------------------------------- Kitty Langham was one of her ladies-in-waiting and rightfully so. Princess Charlotte had chosen her and was closest to her. She ever so wished that Eloise would have accepted such an offer, but she understood that her priorities lay elsewhere. As Kitty spoke, she could not help but feel slightly uneasy. She knew of her close friend's story, how she was promised to a General like some sort of cattle or prize to be won. Were women not more than mere trophies for their husbands? Again, perhaps it was different for the princess. She was of royal blood -- a possible inheritor to the throne should there be no births of boys by her married uncles.
She mattered somehow. Daughter of Regent King George IV.
And yet here she was, worried about marriage. "What worries me is the idea of my father refusing to marry me to the love of my life," She commented softly. Perhaps she sounded far too histrionic, but she could not help it. The name Friedrich simply tore her shreds, knowing her father did not approve of him. "I daresay that even if it is my duty to marry, I deserve a match of true love, would you not agree?" |

kitty & lottie. Love matches weren't something Kitty had very much experience with, if she was being perfectly honest. She certainly hadn't found one herself, and while she had heard rumours that they occasionally occurred, most seemed to be forced to settle. For those who did get to debut in society, they usually found their matches after a single dance, looking at titles and dowries, rather than anything akin to romance. Though perhaps because of how her own marriage had come about, she wasn't the most romantic sort. As a child, she'd dreamed of such things, but it seemed impossible now. Most marriages were loveless.Still, she wasn't going to say that to Lottie. They were friends, and she was one of her ladies in waiting, but that didn't mean it was her place to say that. Besides, perhaps she'd be lucky, especially seeing as she was royalty. They were bound to be more picky with who they became betrothed to. "I believe so. If you wish to find a love match, then of course you deserve the opportunity. Do you truly think your father would deny you that?"

| -------------------------------------------- George IV was a force to be reckoned with. Ever since he was awarded the title Prince Regent, they had shared more arguments. They were tumultuous, to say the least. Ever since her father decided not to recall the Whig party since his rise, she'd felt displeased with him, showing such emotions during the many operas they attended, offering her affections to Earl Grey out of spite. The papers had been written, and even Lady Whistledown gave her opinion on the matter, but she did not care. What was the worst that could happen?
Glancing around the room for a moment, her gloved hand reached for her purse and she unclipped the top, revealing a photo inside that Friedrich had sent her previously. "Everyone knows," She whispered, showing her under the table. "Everyone knows we are in love, but my father cannot seem to fathom the idea of Friedrich and I marrying," Charlotte commented softly, frowning. "I do not know what qualms he has with him. He is a perfectly acceptable match." |

kitty & lottie. Love matches seemed so few and far between, though Kitty couldn’t always fathom what it was people were looking for in their matches. Money and titles, usually, though she doubted if Prince Friedrich was lacking in either department. He seemed a perfectly reasonable match to her, far better than her own match. That said, her own father had technically been responsible for that too, thanks to his untimely demise. Had he not been killed when he had, perhaps she would have gotten to debut into society, meet a match the same way everyone else did. At least she’d gotten her daughters from the match, and her freedom too, but that was about the only thing she could claim. “I cannot claim to have an inkling as to why. He seems perfectly respectable to me, too,” she hummed, studying the picture below the table. And a prince? What issues could her father possibly have, unless he positively loathed the idea of his child’s happiness? What a bizarre notion…though perhaps not that unusual among the ton. “I imagine you dare not ask him such a thing?” [attr="class","mizocredit"] [newclass=.mizocredit a]font:bold 6pt calibri;letter-spacing:1px;color:#b5d1f1;[/newclass]

| -------------------------------------------- Sure, Prince Friedrich was related to her through blood, which was uncommon in their society. Her father had his eyes set upon Leopold of Coburg and she could not, for the life of her, understand what he saw in the latter man. Little Lottie gripped onto the photograph of Friedrich as her friend spoke, looking up for a split moment when she mentioned asking her father about it, "Not if I wish to begin another Napoleonic War." Perhaps that sounded melodramatic, but their arguments seriously were and there were times when her mother had to step in to put a stop to it.
"He is not an easy man to speak to, as you know," Did Kitty know though? Sure, she'd been present at court and seen the Prince Regent perform his job as he took on her poor grandfather's duties, yet she did not truly know the real him. "What is General Langham like?" The princess decided to change the subject, placing the photo of the prince in her purse once more, before reaching over toward her lemonade and sipping it. |

kitty & lottie.
Her own father had been a rather harsh man himself, though she doubted if he'd be quite as hard as a prince had to be. He, like her husband, had been a General once upon a time – up until his death. It was the kind of rank that made a man harsh, the kind of rank that required a certain level of coldness. He'd taken his rank more seriously than he'd taken his family, she assumed, much like her own husband did now. He'd been home far more often than Langham, but that was neither here nor there. At least she didn't have to suffer through his company. "He...cares a lot about his position," she began, carefully. As much as she trusted Lottie, should she be entirely honest about her situation? She was with most other married ladies at the events she attended, but there tended to be a certain level of understanding there. "When he does come home, it's likely because he wants a son. He's not been home to meet Nancy. Then again – it is hardly as if either one of us chose the union. I get the freedoms of marriage, can I truly be mad that he does not wish to be around me?"
