This was a small, royal sort of affair -- only those part of the English court were allowed, Prince Friedrich nowhere to be found as he was out of the country. She mostly stood beside her mama and grandmother, peering around the room as they chaperoned her. Leopold was present as well. The two had met in a not-so-dashing manner as she tried to escape the Prince of Orange's meeting with her that one fateful evening. He had cordially led her to a carriage and that had been the end of it.
Nothing untoward happened.
Her father seemed to always have them lined up to meet her in an effort to prevent her from marrying Friedrich. It was every movement of hers that was controlled because she was the daughter of the Prince Regent. She could not even reach out to take a glass of lemonade before a servant stepped in with a swift hand gesture from her mother. What was this life she was born into? She could not even roam her own ballroom without being watched.
"Mother," She warned gently as she tried to get away, the older woman's hand touching her arm for a moment. "Please, I only require a moment. Nothing will happen to me, I assure you." Receiving a small nod from Caroline, she moved toward one of the main entrances, wandering down the hallway. She then entered the closest drawing room she could find to delve into loneliness, only to catch a glimpse of Prince Leopold near the window.
Heavens -- she should not stay there lest she wishes to damage her reputation.
"Apologies, your highness." She quickly turned around, ready to take her to leave before she felt her dress tug at the corner of a table and rip.

| ---------------------- ---------------------- Sure, Prince Friedrich was related to her through blood, which was uncommon in their society. Her father had his eyes set upon Leopold of Coburg and she could not, for the life of her, understand what he saw in the latter man. Little Lottie gripped onto the photograph of Friedrich as her friend spoke, looking up for a split moment when she mentioned asking her father about it, "Not if I wish to begin another Napoleonic War." Perhaps that sounded melodramatic, but their arguments seriously were and there were times when her mother had to step in to put a stop to it.
"He is not an easy man to speak to, as you know," Did Kitty know though? Sure, she'd been present at court and seen the Prince Regent perform his job as he took on her poor grandfather's duties, yet she did not truly know the real him. "What is General Langham like?" The princess decided to change the subject, placing the photo of the prince in her purse once more, before reaching over toward her lemonade and sipping it. |

| -------------------------------------------- George IV was a force to be reckoned with. Ever since he was awarded the title Prince Regent, they had shared more arguments. They were tumultuous, to say the least. Ever since her father decided not to recall the Whig party since his rise, she'd felt displeased with him, showing such emotions during the many operas they attended, offering her affections to Earl Grey out of spite. The papers had been written, and even Lady Whistledown gave her opinion on the matter, but she did not care. What was the worst that could happen?
Glancing around the room for a moment, her gloved hand reached for her purse and she unclipped the top, revealing a photo inside that Friedrich had sent her previously. "Everyone knows," She whispered, showing her under the table. "Everyone knows we are in love, but my father cannot seem to fathom the idea of Friedrich and I marrying," Charlotte commented softly, frowning. "I do not know what qualms he has with him. He is a perfectly acceptable match." |

She ever so wished that Eloise would have accepted such an offer, but she understood that her priorities lay elsewhere. As Kitty spoke, she could not help but feel slightly uneasy. She knew of her close friend's story, how she was promised to a General like some sort of cattle or prize to be won. Were women not more than mere trophies for their husbands? Again, perhaps it was different for the princess. She was of royal blood -- a possible inheritor to the throne should there be no births of boys by her married uncles.
She mattered somehow. Daughter of Regent King George IV.
And yet here she was, worried about marriage. "What worries me is the idea of my father refusing to marry me to the love of my life," She commented softly. Perhaps she sounded far too histrionic, but she could not help it. The name Friedrich simply tore her shreds, knowing her father did not approve of him. "I daresay that even if it is my duty to marry, I deserve a match of true love, would you not agree?" |

Prince Friedrich  21-23 - Prince of Prussia - Nephew to Queen Charlotte historically, prince friedrich and prince charlotte fell in love. we can either switch this narrative up or build upon it! entirely up to you and how you perceive friedrich's thoughts after daphne's rejection in season one. i am a huge history nerd, so i enjoy reading about certain historic romances that were proven through research! among them were frederick and my princess charlotte of wales. according to history, they met each other at a dinner and began to secretly correspond afterwards. it prompted her to end her previous engagement to the prince of orange, unfortunately, much to her father's disagreement. he had kept his daughter locked away at a cranbourne lodge in great windsor park. they continued to write to each other by passing notes to her servants and somehow could make it work -- until eventually, she chooses leopold I. there is just so much angst and i love it! let me know if you are interested. relationships: queen charlotte -- aunt princess charlotte -- love interest |

| -------------------------------------------- "We can't invite her. Mama hates her," She commented to Kitty as she read the invite list for the upcoming royal luncheon. Kitty Langham was among her closest companions and so, she trusted her. Her dark eyes scanned the list, hoping to catch Friedrich's name and there it was. A small smile appeared on her lips, blushing slightly as she placed the list down. "Oh, Kitty, were you nervous when you were searching for your partner?" Charlotte asked, gently chewing her bottom lip.
She was about to mix in her tea before one of the servants appeared at her side, taking the spoon from her. Lottie felt ever so useless sometimes. Everything had been offered to her on a silver platter and she'd never worked a day in her life. Sure, duty was her job, but she wished she could have... fought in wars or made a difference. Sometimes, she felt like she couldn't speak of this to her friends out of fear that they'd judge her, though she truly wished to hold a sword and try. Her parents would certainly never allow it. |

She was destined to be queen, yet here she lay, weak as ever and cursing her father's name for bringing her into this hateful world of men. On top of that, she was cursing Leopold for even suggesting that they try for a child because she was obviously unready for such an event. Her body was barely able to take the labour and what of the child? Would they be all right? Several thoughts rushed through her mind as she tried to register her best friend's door, making out a few words as the midwives requested that you breathe more.
After trying to concentrate, she finally made out Eloise's final words, the corner of her lips breaking into a short-lived smile until she felt a sting of pain in her lower region. "Eloise!" She clutched on harder, her eyes filling with more tears. Charlotte inhaled and exhaled a few times, trying to push the pain down. "Tell Leopold I love him," She sniffed. "Tell him," Lottie let out a small sob. "Tell him this isn't any of his fault." |

| -------------------------------------------- Fresh tears stung her eyes as she gripped her best friend's hand, her chest heaving up and down at each count offered by the midwife. Leopold was out on duty and was informed that his wife was in labour, fortunately, and she assumed that he was running back to Carlton House to check up on her. Charlotte would come out of this alive. She would make sure of it. She had her grandmother's strength, after all. That was all that she needed.
Breathing in and out, she clenched her jaw and gritted her teeth, letting out an unearthly groan. How on earth did women endure such a matter? How did her mother have her so easily? How had her grandmother given birth to so many children, knowing well that she would have to go through all of this? Staring up at Eloise, she muttered, "If..." She spoke between breaths. "If it's a girl, I would like to call her Eloise." Charlotte managed a weak smile. |

Featherington. That's right -- Lady Crane was spending time with them during that whole ordeal, but then again, the help could have been paid off for some sort of information, given that she'd been a guest and had been receiving copious amounts of attention from Lady Whistledown. Perhaps she wished to know more about the Crane cousin that had incidentally come from the countryside. A new marvel to look at. Princess Charlotte did not ask Penelope much regarding the subject surrounding Lady Crane, but the young woman was always somewhat intrigued by her situation. She was slightly disappointed that Eloise preferred to take another path when it came to escaping her duty. Charlotte made a small face, focusing on her friend's expression as she commented about what she truly wished to do in life, comparing herself to her brothers and older sister, Daphne. "Do you even wish to be as good as Daphne?" She daringly asked. "You are unique and just because society refuses to perceive that as ordinary, it does not make you any less." She supposed that she could not really blame Eloise for thinking in such a manner for if it was her in her tight spot, she would have felt the same way. Lottie always reminded herself to place herself in others' shoes and comprehend what life was like for them, but she still believed her best friend solely focused on the negativities of life and did not reflect on its positive attributes, like the fact that they weren't living in poverty like many Londoners. That was just Charlotte, though. She was content with the concept of duty. Was she plain for doing so? So be it if she were. Selfishly, she enjoyed the riches that came with the title. Spending was among her favourite activities to do. "And I cannot imagine that any member of the royal family is Lady Whistledown," She peered over at her grandmother for a second, who seemed too preoccupied with Lady Danbury. "I'll have whoever sold the information to her fired in a heartbeat, then." Because that was her life they were toying with. Who did they think they were? Maintaining a link between her arm and Eloise's, she wandered about the hall, ensuring every now whether or not her companion was in need of a drink. An independent queen. It was a dream of hers, to roam the earth without a partner and rule as she saw fit. Either way, as rightful heir, she could still commit to the latter without worrying about someone else's opinion apart from the people's. Fortunately, not many knew of the lavish parties she threw, but now and then, word would slip through the grapevine and she would end up on Lady Whistledown's paper. "At least you have the option of marrying who you want," She chimed in, praising Violet Bridgerton in the process. Lottie took another sip from her lemonade. She wished for nothing more than a bottle of expensive champagne and a casual gathering. This was all too much and the lemonade wasn't even up to par. The Cowpers needed to advance their hosting abilities. Her bright cerulean eyes followed the individual that her best friend pointed out and a loud chuckle escaped her once more.
