She needed him. And then he kissed her.
A soft sound escaped her lips as he kissed her. Her now freed hands falling to the sides of his chest to hold him as he did. It was perfect! The taste of him, the way it eased a ache in her chest, and built another one below her belly. The way his was soft, and demanding. She wished the moment to never end, and this kiss could be the rest of her life. That the way his warmth eased the loneliness that she felt would become part of her. The feeling of his breath entwined with her's would be there.
And then she pulled away.
And it hurt, because none of that was forever. Because the door was opened. Because she could not be his mistress. Breaking the kiss, she lowed her face to hid in his shoulder for a moment, hating what she had to do, before forcing her foot to take a painful step back. Her fingers were the last to let go, as she had to again force them from him. Exhaling a shaken breath, that could be mistaken for a sob had it continued. Her hands moving to rest on her belly.

How did one go about asking her husband to for more? Not to say Benedict did not give her everything she could ever imagine, and so much more! He had given her safety, and stableness, and kindness, and love--more love then she thought she could know. Yet he had also show her passion, and bliss! And now she wanted more.
Walking into a room he was using to draw in, Sophie softly shut the room. Watching to make sure that he was engrossed in his drawing, she slowly turned the key--flinching softly (and a little amused) when it made a locking sound that she thought the neighbors (whom lived very, very, very far away) had heard. Pulling the key out she slipped it on to a bookcase near by, where it would not be easily seen.
Walking over to her husband, she smiled when he looked up at her. "The door is locked," She told him, "I shut it behind me, but I cannot open it back." Which would mean they were locked in this room. Alone. Together. With nothing else to do. She would need to build up to that, but for now.

Benedict leaned in and hovered just above her lips, his hand felt warm, and even though he no longer touched her hair she could still feel him there. Still fell him everywhere. She wanted him to kiss her, and she wanted him to make this easier for them both and stop. She knew she wanted more then the other, but she could not help but to wish things were different as he hoovered above her for the kiss.
It was torment, and bliss. She felt do alive and drawn to him, even when she knew how she had to answer his question. "It does not matter what I want. We cannot be." her voice a whisper over his skin as he was close enough. If she leaned--if she swayed just slightly she would find herself in his strong arms, and she wanted it. Remembering how it felt was painful. Wanting him was painful. Walking away from him was painful. "Benedict," right now, she needed him to be strong---or she needed him to kiss her. Either way, she just needed him.

He was good with his sisters, and Sophie liked watching him at ease with them. She had to fight to keep from holding his gaze if he looked her way, as it was growing hard not to wish things were different. Not to think about how she felt. It was growing harder to remember why she had to be strong.
She had to protect herself. She had to protect them both.
The first rain drop hit her cheek, and she looked up at the sky knowing what was about to happen. Hurrying over to the table, she began moving plates around to try to save anything that she could, or at least not let it begin a gopping mess on the table that would be mushy to clean. The rain began to pour harder, and she knew it was going to be pointless. Feeling a hand on her's, her heart skipped a beat as she knew without looking that it was him. The tug on her hand made her leave the dishes, and Sophie was both surprised and not that he pulled her away from the house.
The rain felt cool on her heated skin, and the moment he kissed her the heat turned to fire. Inhaling sharply, her lips parted and let him in. Her hands moved up grasp his arms to balance her, and try to keep from bursting. Without a thought she pressed up on her toes to reach him better, stepping closer to his warmth and touch.
He broke the kiss, resting his face to hers. Her breathing was rapid as she tried to pull in enough air to replace what he had stolen. And in this moment, this perfect stole moment that should never end, and should never have happened--he joked of being ill. Anything left on her lips was kissed away, and her small arms reached up to wrap around his neck, holding him close to her. "Do not joke," she demanded between stolen kisses, "I could not bare you so ill again."

He thought it simple, when she thought it was impossible. How different they were when it came to this. She knew what he meant, and it was that they could just be--just be together. And yet, she knew it would never be so simple. They would never be allowed to just be themselves. He was a noble, she was a maid. She was wanted by her family, and even he did not have the power to erase that.
Even if she was not, one day he would marry, and she would not be his bride. This could only end up in heart break, and she knew that giving up her position here would cost her more than just a job. It was safe here. She was treated well here. She wanted to be here, and she couldn't do that if she gave in to his advantages. His fingers lifted to touch her hair, and she blinked realizing that he was close to her. She had been so engrossed in just being near him that she had not realized she was near him. "Please," she whispered, not sure if she was begging him to stop or just begging him to move closer.

The causal coversation grew to a swift end as he asked her why. "You know why, Benedict." She reminded him, his name slipping from her lips unplanned, as his words made her wish for what could not be. He asked if it would be any worse then what they were doing now, and she wanted to answer YES, when in truth it was also NO!
It would be better, for a moment, but it would be worse as well. For having only half of him, and hiding it from the world--or even not hiding it from the world--would only make it worse as well. It would add something twisted to this, and eventually it would end in heart break. "It is not a simple question." And he knew it. She had made it known she would not be his mistress, and there was no other way for them to be together.

Where was he!? He was sick, and should be in bed after the fever he had, and now everyone was looking for him. Sophie left the house to see if he had wondered outside. She knew that he was not still so ill that he would nor know what he was doing--which was why it was so odd that he was missing.
Hearing some splashing, she turned and talked down the path toward what she found was a small--OH MY GOOD NIGHT HE WAS NAKED! Jumping slightly, Sophie froze and then stumbled over to land behind a tree. He was swimming! Naked! Out in the open!
She knew she should leave. She knew it! Yet . . . yet the chance to look once more was tempting. She should make sure he was alright! Yes, he had been ill, she would just check and then leave. Turning to look out from behind the tree once more, she found herself watching him swim in the water.
She was wasn't sure how long she watched for but eventually he seemed to pick up on that he wasn't alone any more. Jerking her body behind the tree, the waited. Even after he CALLED HER NAME! HOW DID HE KNOW?? She stayed hidden! Maybe he would leave and she could sneak back to the house?

One of the gentlemen was talking too her, as if he knew her! Sophie smiled along with his words, but her mind kept escaping to the events around her, and the dancing--the music--the feeling as if she was a bird escaping for the night. Someone approached her as well, and before she even looked over at him, his voice pulled her toward him. Turning her face to the side, the other gentlemen forgotten in an instant, she found herself looking at a very tall and handsome gentleman with a black mask over his eyes.
The stolen shoes, the weight of her dance card, the powder in her hair--it was all forgotten under the gaze of the handsome stranger. "Hello," she greeted, her shoulders turning to face him more then her previous guest. She could see his eyes, but not most of his face. His smile though felt genuine and it made her want to step closer.

She was. Avoiding him that was. She had too. They could not be together like he wished, and letting herself spend that time with him would weaken herself against the need to stay strong. Giving in to him would make her his mistress, and she could not be anything more than that--and she could not be that.
"I am well, and yourself?" Causal words, that masked what she really wanted to ask him. She glanced behind him to see if the door was opened to closed. He wanted to know if she was avoiding him, and Sophie almost did not answer. The longing to ignore it was strong, but if she did, the he would not know why. "You it is best that I do." Her eyes moved over his face. "For us both."

She . . . She was married. The idea was almost surreal as she rode with her husband to My Cabin--a charming name he had given his hidden home. Hidden as it was his place away from the world. Their place now. Their home away from the world. Theirs because she was his wife.
Benedict's words summoned her mind from thinking, and she turned her face up to look over at him. She smiled, and just watched him for a moment before replying. "It was perfect," She assured him, "I am only trying to make myself believe it's real." Because she wanted it to be so much. Tightening her fingers over his, she lifted their hands up so she could place a kiss on their linked fingers. Looking back up at him. "I missed you in these last few days." She had gotten to see him so little until she found herself in the Church with him.

Her escaped (however feeble it was) was foiled when he grabbed the sheet and pulled her back! Laughing silently, she soon founder herself with more kisses, and his lips once again moving over her skin. Memories of where that had just led too, and where it could led too again, caused her to lean into the kisses, and almost (almost!) lift her knee up to the bed and let him make them late.
It was so tempting!
"Your reward, husband, will depend on how quickly you find me . . . and where you find me at." Her words came soft, and almost whispered as his lips reached her ear. It felt so wonderful to be in his arms, and have his hands on her. She almost (almost!) forgot about the ball. However, she could not let herself be anything less than perfect tonight. Lady Whistledown and his mother would be there! She wished to impress them both. "Benedict, we will be late." She protected, and forced herself to move back once again, though it was clear it was harder to do this time.

The carriage ride to the city had been long, and Sophie knew it was would a day or two before she no longer felt the slight soreness from the right. Arriving to his--their home in the city, Sophie had taken a seat on the sofa, only for Benedict to come over and give a cheeky remark about how long it had been since they were last here.
Smiling, she rolled her face over to look at him, knowing he meant both here (the house) and here (the sofa were he made her his). Moving to half stand, she adjusted so she could curl into his side, and rest her face on his shoulder, rather that sit so far from her. It was late, but she was not tried enough to sleep yet. "I have fond memories of it though," She teased him in return.
